Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Football Club

Awards Evening 2006-2007

30th June 2007

Another hall-packed audience cheered the players from Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC at the Annual Awards Evening for the 2006-2007 season.

A highly successful season saw the presentation of medals and trophies to those who took part this season and with the club growing larger by the year, the evening was split into two sections to make sure everyone could get in.

The club were pleased to welcome our guests of honour for the evening.

For the younger teams part of the evening, we were privileged to have two top names from Tottenham Hotspur Football Club's history.  THLFC Patron Gary Mabbutt was welcomed back to the Awards Evening and the club are grateful for his patronage and giving his time to share the success of the girls.   Gary was joined by former Spurs star Ralph Coates, who, apart from having a glittering playing career, is heavily involved in youth football in Hertfordshire.

For the older girls and the Ladies section of the club, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club's Girl's Football Development Officer Karen Hills joined the event to hand out the awards and we are thankfully for her for giving up her time to attend the event.

UNDER-10s

The Under-10s sides had a successful first season representing the club.  The Whites won the treble - Chairman's Cup, Home Counties Girl's Football League and the HCGFL Under-10 Cup, while the Blues finished second in the league and reached the semi-finals of both Cup competitions, where they only failed to progress at the hands of the Whites.

UNDER-11s

The Under-11 teams also had successful seasons with both teams developing well.  The Blues took the league title and the Whites finished fourth in the table, just three points off third place.  The Blues also finished runners-up in the Home Counties Girl's Football League Under-11 Cup.  Both teams have progressed well and are looking forward to the challenges of playing competitive eleven-a-side football for the first time next season.

UNDER-12s

Moving on from a very successful season as Under-11s, this season's Under-12s had a tough season in eleven-a-side football.  Some players being missing, bad weather leaving the girls without a regular run of games and some lack of killer instinct in finishing teams off lead to the girls not getting fair reward for their efforts.  Having said that, they deserved their London FA Youth Cup victory over London Girls and hopefully, will be stronger for next season's campaign.

UNDER-13s

With runner-up places in the Home Counties Girl's Football League and HCGFL Under-13 Cup, it might look on paper to be a disappointing season, but they came up against a tough side in Queens Park Rangers, who they did beat convincingly, showing that on their day they are a match for any side.  The team were strong throughout the side, with the girls working for each other to score 109 goals and only concede 22 goals in 22 games.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14 Blues were thrust into the First Division as the Home Counties Girl's Football League decided to run just the one division, but despite meeting many of the stronger teams in the first half of the season, the girls gelled better in the run-in and finished a creditable tenth with a run in which they lost only five of seventeen matches.
The Whites lost some momentum with the postponement of games and then getting caught up in the jam of fixtures at the end of the season, which meant that they ended up in second place in the final table, but some consolation came in an extra time win over Luton Town in the HCGFL Under-14 Cup final, leaving them to find some consistency in the new season.

UNDER-15s

With an up and down season, the core of them team kept the side going in the early stages, despite some difficult times.  As the season went on, the side found a rhythm and the girls showed what they were capable of in reaching the semi-final of the Home Counties Girl's Football League Under-15 Cup and finishing in sixth place in the league table with more wins than losses.  Hopefully, the side can move forward together with a tempo set from the start of the season.

RESERVES

2006-07 will be a season to remember for the THLFC Reserves.  An undefeated Greater London Regional Women's Football League Reserve Division 1 title win, winning the Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy and a losing GLRWF League Cup Final appearance, having knocked out bigger clubs on the way, it was a memorable campaign.  The ladies played some fine football and dug in with gritty performances when they needed to, but it was the strong team performances that earned the success of two trophies and some players who have grown in stature in the side.

FIRST TEAM

It was once more a tough campaign for our young first team, as they faced up to long journeys and more experienced opponents.  There was always a steely determination in Darren Johnson's side, who will benefit from the experience of facing older and more physical sides, but they managed to secure a ninth place finish that sees them in the top flight again next season.

OTHER AWARDS

While the focus of the club is what happens on the field, there is a huge amount of voluntary work which goes on behind the scenes.  With over 1750 hours of work done by those who give their time to the club to ensure that everything runs smoothly (well, most of the time anyway !!), there are some awards each season for those who do their work and deserve recognition for that.

The awards for the team were ...

The SUE SHARPLES AWARD for the people who have served the club and made a substantial contribution to THLFC this year went to THE PHYSIO TEAM (collected on their behalf by Reserve Team coach John Boyaram)

and The LUCY PINNOCK AWARD for the person who has significantly contributed to running of the club for 2006-07 went to JULIE NEWBY, who does a huge amount of work to promote the club.
