TOWER HAMLETS WFC 0
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC DEVELOPMENT 8
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

As always the start of the season is a good opportunity to reflect on arrivals and departures from last seasons team. Firstly a warm welcome to Amy Cooper and her family. We also say goodbye to Lottie Knight, Shauna Magner, Molly and Rosie Kmita and wish all the best for the future. Molly and Rosie leaving meant new captain / vice captain's with Ayse Mustafa and Katie Mills stepping into the respective roles.

Onto today's game. It was the girls first in the GLWFL, so the opposition Tower Hamlets were an unknown quantity. Before kick-off, a minutes silence was impeccably observed by all to commemorate the victims of the September 11th attacks.

The game kicked off shortly afterwards with Spurs quick on the attack. With little under a minute gone a good run by Phoebe Eshen won a corner. Siobhan Wilson swung in the dead ball for Siobhan Jones to see a header saved.  A minute after that Spurs took the lead when Phoebe intercepted a goal-kick.  She took the ball forward and shot hitting the post.  Siobhan Jones was quick to the re-bound stabbing home to make the score 1-0 to Spurs. Phoebe was really on fire and broke down the left from the restarted before having a shot saved by the Tower Hamlets keeper. On five minutes Nikki Hunnable crossed to Phoebe who fired over as Spurs sought a second goal.

On 12 minutes Ayse Mustafa fed Siobhan Wilson who fired a shot at the keeper. Tower Hamlets almost drew level with a quarter of an hour on the clock, striking the bar directly from a free kick with Angela McGann beaten. The Spurs defence cleared the rebound to keep the score at 1-0.

Siobhan Jones played in Nikki on 23 minutes who took the ball into the penalty area and saw her shot well saved by the Tower Hamlets keeper. Two minutes later Spurs doubled their lead when Charlotte Dean played the ball to Siobhan Wilson on the left flank. She took the ball into the penalty area before firing an unstoppable shot across the keeper and into the net to make the score 2-0 to Spurs.

With 27 on the clock Phoebe broke down the right and crossed to Ayse who fired just over the bar.  After half hour it was 3-0 to Spurs when Phoebe found Siobhan Jones in the box.  Her first effort was saved, but she was quick to the rebound to grab her second and Spurs third. Barely a minute later and Spurs effectively killed the game off following a great run by Phoebe beat three players. Her resulting cross found Siobhan Wilson who fired high over the keeper and in to the net to grab her second and make the score 4-0 to Spurs.

Tower Hamlets were still dangerous and some hesitation in the Spurs defence presented them with a chance only for Angela to pull off a great save. Amy then played in Siobhan Jones looking for her third only to fire narrowly over the bar. Siobhan Wilson, Nikki and Phoebe all had shots saved before the referee drew the half to a close with the score 4-0 to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs began the second period in as much the same vein as they ended the first with Phoebe firing just past the post. With 48 minutes on the clock the two Siobhan's combined to grab Spurs 5th on the day. A great run and cross by Siobhan Wilson found Siobhan Jones who fired home to complete her hat-trick and make the score 5-0 to Spurs.

Jayne made a double substitution shortly afterwards with Iris Isok and Andra Marcoci replacing Charlotte and Nikki. Andra was soon in the game having a shot saved by the Tower Hamlets keeper. She was not to be denied for long though as on 61 minutes she was on hand to stab home a curling shot from Siobhan Jones that had been cleared off the line thus making the score 6-0 to Spurs.

A minute later a spectacular effort from Siobhan Wilson cannoned off of the Tower Hamlets bar. Siobhan Jones had another effort cleared off of the line, before on 65 minutes, Siobhan Wilson smashed the ball home from 35 yards to grab her hat-trick and make the score 7-0 to Spurs.

After 77 minutes some great interplay between Siobhan Jones and Andra saw the latter finish and make the score 8-0 to Spurs. Phoebe again went close having thoroughly deserved a goal on the day before the referee drew the match to a close with the final score of Tower Hamlets 0 Tottenham Hotspur 8.

A great performance from the girls. Well done.

ENFIELD TOWN THIRDS 1
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Spurs Ladies Development side came up against an old foe in the shape of Enfield Town in what proved to be an entertaining game. We were without the services of Siobhan Wilson and Nikki Hunnable and therefore down to the bare eleven.

With two minutes on the clock ,some hesitation in the Enfield defence let in Siobhan Jones, who rounded the keeper only to see her shot cleared off of the line for a throw on.  Spurs manufactured a chance from the throw that resulted in a good save from a shot from Andra Marcoci.  A minute later Phoebe Eshen was first onto a long ball and had two shots saved by the Enfield keeper with the danger eventually cleared. Phoebe limped off shortly after and Spurs had to play on with ten men for a few minutes whilst she was treated.

Defences dominated for the next period and it was not until 15 minutes had passed that a noteworthy chance was created when Enfield struggled to clear the ball from their area. It eventually found its way to Amy Cooper who fired narrowly wide of the post.  A minute later a great run from Iris Isok down the left flank resulted in a cross to Andra who set herself before firing just over the bar.

It was not all one-way traffic though and Katie Mills had to be called upon to make a last ditch tackle to cut out a dangerous break.  An Enfield player was first to the ball and fired just wide with Angela McGann stranded and then a  couple of minutes later Enfield again went close when they broke and fired a shot across the Spurs goal.

With 25 minutes gone Enfield won a free kick on the edge of the Spurs area. Angela made a good saved from the dead ball. A minute later Phoebe broke and just knocked the ball a bit too far in front of her allowing the keeper to gather.

The deadlock was broken on 30 minutes following a great run from Phoebe down the right. Her shot beat the keeper but was cleared by a defender for a corner. Phoebe took the corner herself and Andra headed home to make the score 1-0 to Spurs.   Two minutes later and Spurs doubled their lead after Phoebe broke down the left flank this time before crossing to Andra who had the simple task of slotting home from close range to make the score 2-0 to Spurs.

Spurs began to dominate and went further ahead before half time when Siobhan Jones picked the ball up on the left and crossed to Phoebe who forced the ball home under pressure to make the score 3-0 to Spurs. This was the score at half time.

It was Enfield who started the second period better and went close to pulling a goal back after some hesitancy in the Spurs defence let in an attacker,  who fired narrowly over the crossbar.  With 51 minutes on the clock Siobhan Jones fashioned a chance for herself, holding off a couple of defenders before firing just past the post. On the hour Spurs made it 4-0 after Ayse Mustafa found Siobhan Jones who played in Phoebe who slotted the ball into the corner of the net to grab her second and Spurs fourth.

A minute later Charlotte Dean had a shot from the edge of the box saved, but Enfield pulled a goal back after 67 minutes when a shot looped over Angela and into the net to make the score 4-1 to Spurs.

Ayse nearly restored Spurs four-goal lead a minute later, firing off a shot from the edge of the area that smacked back off of the bar.  Enfield nearly pulled another goal back on 70 minutes, but were foiled by a good save from Angela.  As the game entered the final 15 minutes Iris Isok played in Ayse who had a shot saved and there was time for Siobhan Jones to have a shot saved before the referee bought an end to the game with the final score 4-1 to Spurs.

Two wins from two. Well done ladies and long may the run continue.

NEWHAM WOMENS 1
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Spurs welcomed Newham Womens to Frederick Knights on a sunny, breezy autumn day without the services of Amy Cooper.

The visitors very nearly took the lead on three minutes after capitalising on a mistake in the Spurs defence only for Angela McGann to make an early save.  After eight minutes Phoebe Eshen picked the ball up on the right, took on a defender before firing just wide of the post. A copycat move on 16 minutes saw Phoebe open the scoring having taken on a defender and slotted the ball past the Newham keeper to make the score 1-0 to Spurs.

Straight from the restart Harley Keenlyside had to be on hand to block a Newham goal bound shot for a corner. Spurs doubled their advantage on 18 minutes when some good interplay around the edge of the Newham area eventually found Phoebe who dispatched a shot to make the score 2-0 to Spurs.

Newham were far from out of the game however, and nearly halved Spurs advantage on 20 minutes breaking through the defence with Angela racing from her goal to clear.  With 28 minutes on the clock it looked as though Spurs were three up after Nikki Hunnable converted a cross with a volley only to see her effort ruled out as the ball was in touch before the cross came in.

A minute later Nikki played in Siobhan Wilson who had a shot saved. Not much of note happened in the next few minutes with both team struggling to create any clear chances. It was not until 40 minutes were on the clock did either goal come under pressure when Phoebe fired a shot into the side netting.  Just prior to the break Spurs extended their lead with Charlotte Dean curling a shot into the top left hand corner of the Newham net from the edge of the area to make the half time score 3-0 to Spurs.

Siobhan Jones replaced Katie Mills at half time with Charlotte dropping back into a defensive role. Newham had the first chance of the second period with a shot well saved by Angela. With 53 minutes on the clock Siobhan Wilson had a shot saved.  Spurs extended their lead a minute later when Andra Marcoci played in Siobhan Jones on the left of the area. Siobhan took the ball into the box before unselfishly pulling the ball back to Nikki Hunnable who slotted home to make the score 4-0 to Spurs.

Iris Isok played in Siobhan Jones on 57 minutes with the latter seeing her shot saved by the Newham keeper. At the other end Angela was again quick off of her line to cut out a dangerous through ball.  On the hour, Danielle Hayes had a shot from the edge of the area saved on a rare foray forward from the defender. A minute later Andra shot just past the post. Two minutes after that Nikki fed Siobhan Wilson who also fired wide as Spurs sought to extend their lead.

At the other end Angela made a great save to prevent a certain Newham goal. With 75 minutes gone Phoebe broke down the right before picking out Siobhan Wilson who took a shot on the half volley only to see it saved.

As the game entered the final ten minutes Nikki played in Phoebe on the right flank. Phoebe looked up and crossed to Siobhan Jones who fired home to make the score 5-0 to Spurs.  There was still time for the visitors to pull a goal back before the match ended when a lapse in concentration allowed a Newham player to loop a shot over Angela and into the Spurs net to make the final score 5-1 to Spurs.

Another good win and all round team performance with excellent interplay all across the pitch. Well-done ladies.

ENFIELD TOWN THIRDS 1
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC DEVELOPMENT 3
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

On a very warm October afternoon Spurs had an away match against Enfield Thirds at Enfield Playing Fields. The two teams had met previously two weeks ago where Spurs won.  All players were available except Nikki Hunnable and Siobhan Wilson.

Enfield went out to attack at every opportunity in the first half; Angela McGann fortunately saved all the excellent crosses from the right, with excellent defensive tackles from Harley Keenlyside and Katie Mills.  A cross from Charlotte Dean found Ayse Mustafa, but unfortunately the flag went up for offside.

A variety of shots by Spurs were either put wide or saved by the keeper. Just before half time Iris Isok was fouled in the box and Spurs were awarded a penalty, which Ayse took.  The spot-kick was saved by the keeper, but luckily for Spurs it bounced off her hands and went in making it 1-0 Spurs.  All in all it was a half of many chances, but none were taken.

The second half began with Enfield taking a corner; the ball bounced off the far post and went in the back of the net to tie up the score at 1-1. The half carried on as the same as the first half with many chances not being taken until, on 68 minutes, a lovely ball from Andra Marcoci found Ayse, who then passed to Charlotte Dean, who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.  2-1 Spurs.

A few minutes later Enfield were given a free kick just outside the box.  There was a lot of pushing in the goal mouth, which unfortunately escalated and one player from each side was sent off.  As the Spurs player was the goalkeeper, Charlotte went in goal for the remainder of the game.

The game re-started, the free kick was taken and was cleared to safety by Spurs.  Tottenham's third goal came in the 94th minute and was scored by Andra giving Spurs a 3-1 lead. The linesman did flag for offside, but the referee awarded the goal.

At long last the final whistle was blown.  It was a shame that on a lovely sunny afternoon there were so many problems between the players that ended up in an unfortunate incident, which could have been avoided.

All the players who have gone into playing adult football must realise that the game has become much more physical and have to rise above any taunts and physicality from the opposing team.  That said it was 3-1 win to Spurs and the team moves on to prepare for next weeks match at home to Bushey Rangers.

BUSHEY RANGERS 2
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Today we welcomed Bushey Rangers and Dempsey Favell our new Spurs player to Frederick Knights. The match started with both sides playing good attacking football. After 15 minutes Spurs were awarded a corner, the ball was placed in the box and the referee blew for a penalty for handball. The penalty was expertly taken by Ayse Mustafa who placed it into the bottom corner of the net. 1-0 Spurs.

Bushey were awarded a free kick after a foul was committed but it was dealt with by the Spurs defence. A few minutes later Bushey were going for goal but an excellent tackle by Katie Mills stopped them.  In the 25th minute Spurs lost possession and the ball was cleverly picked up by the Bushey forward who went on to score a fantastic goal.1-1

For the next 20 minutes until half time Spurs had shots at goal from Andra Marcoci, Siobhan Wilson Phoebe Eshen and Iris Isok but they were either put wide or over the crossbar. Bushey were playing good attacking football and the Spurs defence along with Angela McGann had to work hard to stop them.  There were some lovely crosses from both the left and right but unfortunately they could not be picked up. Angela was constantly making excellent saves from the Bushey attack. Half time score 1-1.

In the second half Dempsey Favell came on to make her Spurs debut for Iris. It started off as the first half ended until on 55 minutes Andra shot from a distance and the ball went straight into the back of the net. 2-1 Spurs.  The girls must have listened to Jayne and Graham as they were now playing a much better game doing some great passing. On 64 minutes Siobhan Wilson fired home from distance. 3-1 Spurs.

On 67 minutes Siobhan Wilson passed from the left to Andra who scored another great goal. 4-1 Spurs.

A few minutes later on 70 minutes a great shot from Phoebe from the left was put into the net, the goalkeeper did get her hands to it but luckily for Spurs it bounced off and went in. 5-1 Spurs.

Spurs were having lots of shots at goal and Bushey had to deal with some excellent play from Phoebe, Siobhan Jones and Andra who were attacking the goal at every opportunity. The midfield were also working hard doing some lovely passing and pushing the ball forward, Siobhan Wilson and Nikki Hunnable were putting in some lovely crosses as well as some excellent defending. The passing between Dempsey, Ayse and Amy Cooper was fantastic with Charlotte Dean and Katie also working hard in defence.

Three quarters of the way through the second half Bushey gained possession and fired at goal, Angela got her hands to the ball but unfortunately it went in. 5-2 Spurs.  The match was nearing the end when on 93 minutes a cross from Ayse was put in front of the Bushey goalkeeper, it was headed by the Bushey defender who unfortunately for her put the ball into the back of her own net. 6-2 Spurs.

The final whistle blew on which had been an excellent game of football from a very experienced Bushey Rangers and a young Spurs team who should be proud of how they played. Many thanks to Bushey and we look forward to our next match.

NORTHWOOD 2
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC DEVELOPMENT 2
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Spurs arrived at Northwood without the services of Danielle Hayes. With Ayse Mustafa on the bench, Katie Mills took on captain’s responsibilities. The hosts were quick out of the blocks and after only five minutes broke through and Angela McGann was forced into an excellent save.

With 10 minutes on the clock Spurs were awarded a free kick in their own half. Siobhan Wilson played a long ball into the Northwood half that was picked up by Phoebe Eshen who took the ball on only to have her shot saved by the keeper.  Ten minutes later Harley Keenlyside and Katie combined to cut out a very dangerous Northwood attack as the hosts pressed for an opener.

It was therefore slightly against the run of play then when Spurs opened the scoring on 25 minutes. Siobhan Jones picked the ball up on the right; found Phoebe who played the ball to Siobhan Wilson on the left side of the area. Siobhan took aim, fired across the keeper and into the net to make the score 1-0 to Spurs.

Northwood were on level terms five minutes later when Siobhan Wilson was unlucky to deflect a cross into her own net following a free kick from the hosts. From the restart Katie played a long ball to Phoebe who took the ball on before firing just past the post.

With 33 minutes on the clock Andra Marcoci found Amy Cooper on the edge of the area.  Amy's shot was saved by the keeper, who did very well to save a shot from the rebound from Andra.  A minute later Andra found Phoebe on the edge of the area. She steadied shot but the keeper saved again.  Spurs won a corner on 40 minutes. Siobhan Wilson swung the ball in and Andra headed goal-wards but the keeper saved comfortably. Northwood broke and some hesitancy in the Spurs defence let in an attacker who fired wide of the post with Angela stranded. Angela was forced into a save from a free kick before the referee bought the half to a close.

Spurs made a double substitution at half time with Ayse and Jess Preston (making her Spurs debut) replacing Siobhan Jones and Nikki Hunnable respectively. Two minutes after the break Spurs won a corner. Siobhan Wilson drilled the set piece across the face of the goal but no one could get a foot on it.

A minute later Northwood took the lead with a speculative shot from distance that looped over Angela and into the net to make the score 2-1 to Northwood. Charlotte Dean replaced Iris Isok shortly after the goal.  The next few minutes bought few chances of note as Spurs struggled to assert themselves. On 57 minutes Jess Preston made a chance for herself by not giving up on a through ball only to see her shot saved by the keeper. From the resulting corner Jess headed past the post.

A minute later some Charlotte Dean crossed from the edge of the area but Dempsey Favell was unable to guide her header on target. Shortly after Spurs won a free kick on the left of the area. Siobhan Wilson stepped up and fired just past the post.  On 65 minutes Northwood won a free kick on the edge of the Spurs penalty area. Angela only parried the kick but Northwood were unable to convert the rebound.

Spurs leveled on 75 minutes when a throw on from Jess found its way to Dempsey who set off on a run into the Northwood penalty area only to be fouled. The referee pointed to the spot and Ayse stepped up sending the keeper the wrong way to bring the score level at 2-2.

Two minutes later Dempsey beat the offside trap and looped a shot over the keeper but was extremely unlucky to see her shot hit the post, roll across the goal line, hit the other post and rebound to safety.

With five minutes left to play Spurs thought they had taken the lead when Phoebe fired home only to be pulled back by the linesman's flag. It seemed a harsh decision but the referee awarded the free kick to Northwood.

Both teams had half chances at the end but neither could convert and so the game ended in a 2-2 draw. The Spurs girls were not at their best but Northwood battled well and deserved the point.

CAMDEN TOWN 0
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC DEVELOPMENT 3
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Tottenham Hotspur arrived in Regents Park to play the undefeated Camden Town without the services of Angela McGann and Phoebe Eshen.  Lauren Picton took over in goal and we also welcomed Rhianne Dimmock to the squad.

The first few minutes of the game were nondescript with neither side creating a clear-cut chance of note. It was not until 20 had passed that Spurs created a chance when Siobhan Wilson fired past the post from the left side of the Camden Town penalty area.  Ten minutes later our hosts won a corner and headed just over the bar. With 35 minutes on the clock Charlotte Dean saw her shot saved from distance.

Just as the game seemed to be drifting to a goalless first half Spurs struck twice inside a minute. Firstly Siobhan Wilson played a long ball into the area that the keeper couldn't gather and Jess Preston was on hand to stab home for her first goal for Spurs and to make the score 1-0.

Almost straight from the restart Spurs won back possession.  Danielle Hayes found Jess on the right flank who in turn found Siobhan Jones who took the ball on before crossing for Siobhan Wilson to fire home and make the score 2-0 to Spurs.  The game really livened up now and Camden had a shot that flew narrowly over the Spurs bar and Jess fired wide before the referee drew the half to a close with the score at 2-0 to Spurs.

Nikki Hunnable replaced Andra Marcoci at the break and the second half started in a similar fashion to the first with neither side making much impression on the other.  Just on the hour Spurs were awarded a free kick 35 yards from goal.  Siobhan Wilson stepped up and fired a shot at goal that squirmed under the keeper and into the net to make the score 3-0 to Spurs and effectively end the game as a contest.

Two minutes later Siobhan Wilson crossed in a corner and Jess headed wide. Amy Cooper and Jess were replaced by Rianne Dimmock for her Spurs debut and Iris Isok.  On 64 minutes Siobhan Jones fired in a shot from distance that flew past the Camden Town post. At the other end the hosts struck the Spurs crossbar and were unable to convert the rebound.  With 15 minutes remaining Siobhan Wilson shot just past the post. Shortly after Rianne played in Nikki who laid the ball off to Iris whose shot just crept wide of the post. Shortly after the referee blew for time with the final score 3-0 to Spurs.

The team worked hard against decent opposition. There were a lot of positives to take away - a clean sheet for the defence for one. The squad looks strong throughout also. Three goals and three points. Well done girls.

TRING ATHLETIC 2
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Spurs entertained Tring Athletic in a top of the table clash without the services of Angela McGann, Charlotte Dean, Nikki Hunnable and Danielle Hayes. Harley Keenlyside deputised in goal for Angela.

The visitors started brightly and took the lead on three minutes having worked the ball into the Spurs penalty area and firing home. So it was down to Spurs to come from behind.

A minute later Siobhan Jones played in Dempsey Favell who crossed to Phoebe Eshen. Phoebe's shot was saved by the Tring keeper for a corner. Phoebe took the resulting corner swinging the ball in where Siobhan Wilson fired over the bar.

After 15 minutes Phoebe embarked on a dangerous run down the left flank before finding Siobhan Jones who shot just wide of the post. Tring broke through the Spurs rearguard a minute later and Harley made a great save to prevent the visitors from doubling their lead.

Having swapped wings, Phoebe broke down the right flank on 20 minutes. She crossed but the Tring defence could not clear their lines. The ball eventually fell to the feet of Amy Cooper who took the ball on before firing home to equalise making the score Spurs 1 Tring 1.

With 25 minutes gone Ayse Mustafa split the Tring defence with a 40-yard cross field pass finding Siobhan Wilson who fired in a shot across goal. Two minutes later Iris Isok broke from midfield before firing just over the bar.

On the half hour Ayse played in Dempsey who saw her shot saved. A minute later Iris fired wide as Spurs pushed Tring back and into playing on the break.

With 35 minutes gone Spurs succumbed to the sucker punch when Tring broke forcing a save from Harley. The visitors were first to the rebound and forced the ball home to make the score 1-2.

There was time before half time for Siobhan Wilson to fire just over the bar before the referee drew the half to a close with the score line 1-2 to Tring.

Tring created the first chance of the second half breaking through the Spurs defence with a one on one situation with the keeper. Harley made herself big and pulled of a great save to keep Spurs in the game.

It was the visitors who were now looking strong and Katie Mills, Jess Preston and Rianne Dimmock were stretched but held firm. On the hour though they broke through the Spurs rearguard and fired a shot over the bar. A minute later Spurs pushed for an equaliser when Ayse found Siobhan Jones who shot past the Tring upright. Andra Marcoci replaced Siobhan Wilson shortly afterwards.

With 65 minutes gone Phoebe fired over as did Amy a couple of minutes later. The game was all-square after 75 minutes when Siobhan Jones picked the ball up on the right hand edge of the Tring area. She looked up and curled a spectacular effort over the keeper and into the net to make the score 2-2.

Both teams pressed for a winner, but Spurs came the closest when Phoebe picked the ball up on the left of the area before drilling in a shot that the Tring keeper pushed onto the bar and away.

The referee blew for time with the scores level at 2-2, which was a fair result where either side could have emerged victorious.

WATFORD DEVELOPMENT 2
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC DEVELOPMENT 2
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Spurs visited Watford on a cold blustery day without the services of Angela McGann serving the final match of her suspension and Nikki Hunnable. Jess Preston deputised in goal for Angela. Spurs started the brighter of the two teams and with two minutes on the clock won a corner. Siobhan Wilson swung the ball in only to see it hit the post and rebound to safety.

A couple of minutes after that Dempsey Favell hit a long pass from defence that split the Watford defence finding Andra Marcoci in a one on one situation. Unfortunately for Spurs Andra’s shot was straight at the keeper who saved comfortably.

After 6 minutes Siobhan Wilson was unlucky to see her goal-bound shot headed over for a corner. A minute later Ayse Mustafa shot wide as Spurs pressed. It was not all one-way traffic though and Katie Mills had to make a great challenge to cut out a dangerous break from the hosts.

The deadlock was broken after a quarter of an hour when Ayse played in Andra who held the ball up, turned before firing home to make the score 1-0 to Spurs. For the next few minutes neither team could impose themselves on the game, which degenerated into a midfield scrap.

Spurs doubled their lead on 25 minutes when Charlotte Dean played a ball towards Andra. The Watford defender looked to have handled but the referee played on. Fortunately for Spurs the ball rebounded back to Andra who fired under the keeper to grab her second and make the score 2-0 to Spurs.

Five minutes before the interval Siobhan Wilson produced a great cross to find Andra in space. She fired in a shot that the keeper did well to save. The referee bought the half to an end shortly afterwards with the score 2-0 to Spurs.

Amy Cooper and Danielle Hayes entered the fray at half time replacing Rhianne Dimmock and Siobhan Jones. Spurs created the first chance of the second half when Charlotte played in Andra who fired straight at the keeper.

Phoebe Eshen replaced Dempsey Favell shortly afterwards and a couple of minutes later Charlotte had a shot that cannoned off the bar and out.  For some unexplained reason at this point Spurs completely lost their way.

Watford began to push Spurs back as they sniffed a way back into the game, which duly presented itself on 56 minutes when Katie was unable to cut out a through ball. The Watford attacker took the ball on and fired past Jess to make the score 2-1. Game On.

If we were hoping for a reaction from the girls it didn’t come and Watford began to dominate proceedings, hunting in packs and closing the Spurs midfield down.  On the hour Phoebe crossed but Siobhan Wilson could not force the ball home.  At the other hand Harley Keenlyside produced a great challenge to prevent Watford from getting in a shot. The next few minutes were played in the Spurs half as the hosts pressed for an equalizer.

Just as it seemed Spurs would scrape a win, Watford won a free kick on the edge of the Spurs area. Jess was only able to parry the shot at goal from the dead-ball and a Watford player reacted first to stab home and make the score 2-2.

It was the home team pressing for the winner now with Spurs dropping deeper and deeper and resorting to playing on the break.  As in all games there was one final chance and it fell Spurs way when Ayse Mustafa played in Iris Isok.  Iris was unable top capitalize on the chance though and the referee blew for time shortly afterwards with the final score at 2-2.

No disrespect to Watford, who played well in the second half, but this has to be seen as two points dropped - which could prove costly later in the season.  By their own admission, the girls played very poorly on the day. Let's hope this is a one off and we return to form when play Leyton next week.

LEYTON LADIES 3
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC DEVELOPMENT 3
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Before I start today's report I would like to wish Nikki Hunnable, our flying winger, all the best for the future following her decision to call time on her football career for now.  Don't be a stranger Nikki.

Spurs visit to Leyton saw us welcome Angela McGann back in goal. The game promised much with both teams unbeaten and so it proved. Leyton started brightly catching the Spurs defence cold with just two minutes gone, firing home to take the lead after the defence could not clear their lines. 1-0 to Leyton.

Nothing noteworthy happened for the next ten minutes or so before the hosts nearly doubled their lead on 15 minutes but Angela was on hand to make a good save.

A minute later Siobhan Wilson fashioned a chance on the break before shooting at the Leyton keeper. With 17 minutes gone it was all square when Spurs won a free kick on the edge of the Leyton penalty area. Siobhan Wilson stepped up and smashed the ball home to make the score 1-1.

Spurs nearly to the lead on 18 minutes when Siobhan Wilson broke down the left and crossed but Dempsey Favell was unable to get a touch to convert. The hosts regained the lead on 19 minutes after reacting first to a ball into the Spurs penalty area. 2-1 to Leyton.

With 21 minutes gone Charlotte Dean and Danielle Hayes combined for the latter to cross to Siobhan Wilson who saw her shot saved. Fifteen minutes later Charlotte also had a shot saved.

With 38 minutes gone the game was all square again. Charlotte found Amy Cooper on the edge of the area with her back to goal, but Amy quickly turned and drilled a shot home to make the score 2-2. There was time for Siobhan Jones to fire just wide before the referee bought the half to a close with the scores level at 2-2.

Katie Mills and Phoebe Eshen replaced Rhianne Dimmock and Siobhan Jones respectively at the break. If Leyton started the first half well, it was Spurs who were quick out of the blocks in the second.

Siobhan Wilson picked the ball up on the edge of the area. She took it past a defender before chipping the keeper to grab her second and Spurs third making the score 2-3 to Spurs.

Spurs only held the lead for some three minutes before a Leyton defender launched a long ball that cut right through the centre of the Spurs defence. An attacker was first to the ball slotting past Angela to restore parity making the score 3-3.

Dempsey Favell made way for Andra Marcoci as Spurs pushed for a winner. With 55 minutes gone it looked like Spurs would regain the lead when Charlotte found Siobhan Wilson on the left flank. She crossed to Phoebe who shot at the keeper.

Ten minutes later Leyton were reduced to 10 players after one of their defenders was rather harshly dismissed for dissent.  Spurs gained momentum pushing Leyton back forcing them into some rather desperate defending.

Phoebe shot just wide after 70 minutes. The game was being played almost entirely in Leyton's half now and it seemed Spurs had grabbed a winner on 80 minutes when Siobhan Wilson drilled in a goal bound shot only to see the home keeper tip the ball round the post.

With five minutes to go Spurs won a corner. Siobhan Wilson swung in a dangerous ball and Spurs despite a couple of attempts were unable to scramble home. Ayse twisted her ankle and left the field making it 10 against 10 for the final few minutes.  In the dying seconds of the game Spurs had to defend a couple of dangerous free kicks to avoid a sucker punch before the referee called time with the scores level at 3-3.

Well done to both sides for putting on an entertaining match. The result probably suited Leyton more so than Spurs. It was a vastly improved performance from last week.

NORTHWOOD 0
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC DEVELOPMENT 12
Middlesex Junior Cup - Round 2

Spurs arrived at Northwood for their Middlesex FA County Cup match without the services of Rhianne Dimmock, Siobhan Wilson and Phoebe Eshen.  Fog enveloped the pitch but visibility was good enough for the game to commence.

With barely a minute gone Siobhan Jones played in Dempsey Favell who saw her shot saved. A minute later Amy Cooper had a shot saved by the Northwood keeper who turned out to have a great game. However with four minutes on the clock Spurs took the lead from an Andra Marcoci corner where Siobhan had a shot saved before Jess Preston followed up to make the score 1-0 to Spurs.

Amy played in Siobhan who fired wide after 12 minutes. A minute later Andra saw a shot tipped onto the post by the keeper after intercepting her goal kick. Andra and Siobhan combined after 20 minutes for the latter to fire in a well hit shot that the Northwood keeper did well to save.

A minute later Amy played in Siobhan whose shot was well saved for a corner. On the half hour Siobhan played in Dempsey who fired over the bar. It was all one-way traffic at this stage with Spurs being profligate in front of goal.

Spurs doubled their advantage on 43 minutes when Dempsey crossed from the right to Siobhan who beat the keeper to the ball before sliding the ball home to make the score 2-0 to Spurs at the break.

Charlotte Dean replaced Harley Keenlyside at the interval and was soon in the thick of things crossing to Siobhan whose shot was saved before being cleared.

Spurs extended their advantage on 49 minutes when Iris Isok played a precision pass to Charlotte whose shot took a slight deflection from a defender on its way into the net to make the score 3-0 to Spurs.

It was 4-0 two minutes later when Amy passed to Andra in the penalty area. Andra pulled the ball back to the advancing Danielle Hayes who fired the ball high in to the net to grab her first goal of the season.

With 55 minutes gone Charlotte took the ball down the right flank before crossing to Siobhan who turned and shot narrowly wide of the upright. On the hour Spurs extended their lead when Ayse Mustafa beat the keeper to a fine cross from Dempsey to stab home to make the score 5-0 to Spurs.

Two minutes later a shot from Charlotte was tipped over the bar by the keeper, who was on hand again shortly after to deny Charlotte. With 67 gone Amy played in Andra on the edge of the Northwood area. Andra took the ball into the box before firing home to make the score 6-0 to Spurs.

The fog really came down now and it was touch and go whether the game could complete. Dempsey got herself another assist on 69 minutes when she again played in Ayse. The keeper saved Ayse's first effort but she was first to the rebound to fire in off the post grabbing her second and making the score 7-0 to Spurs.

With 75 minutes gone Jess launched a ball out of the fog bank finding Charlotte on the right flank. Charlotte took the ball into the area before pulling it back to Siobhan to slot home grabbing her second and making the score 8-0. A minute later Iris fired in to the side netting as Spurs pressed and Northwood's heads dropped a little.

As the game entered the final ten minutes Amy played in Andra just inside the penalty area. Andra's shot was well saved by the keeper who was unlucky to see the ball fall at the feet of Ayse who made no mistake grabbing her hat trick and making the score 9-0 to Spurs.

A minute later Northwood broke and got in a shot (I think) that flew just wide (I think). With 83 minutes gone Amy played in Andra on the edge of the area and the striker drilled the ball past the keeper to grab her second and make the score 10-0.

Spurs won the ball back straight from the restart. The ball was played up to Siobhan who laid the ball off to Charlotte who in turn found Andra who needed no second invitation to complete her hat trick making the score 11-0 to Spurs.

As the game entered the final minute Danielle found Andra on the right hand side of the area. She advanced on the keeper and stroked the ball home to make the final score 12-0 to Spurs.

Well played girls in difficult conditions. The finishing was clinical and the whole team put in good performances on the day. Commiserations go to Northwood and in particular the goalkeeper who had a good game in spite of the score line.

CAMDEN TOWN 2
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Spurs entertained Camden Town in a top of the table clashed defending an unbeaten record in the league. Unfortunately today's below par performance saw them surrender this.

The visitors were quick out of the blocks and almost scored on 11 minutes heading just wide from a dangerous cross. Nine minutes later Katie Mills was on hand to make a good blocking challenge to prevent a shot on goal.

Five minutes later Katie was again called upon to block a shot and Angela McGann did well to save from the rebound.

It was therefore slightly against the run of play when Spurs took the lead on 27 minutes. Charlotte Dean found Andra Marcoci who passed to Siobhan Wilson who fired an unstoppable shot into the side of the net to make the score 1-0 to Spurs.

Three minutes later it was almost 2-0 after a cross shot from Andra drifted onto the Camden crossbar but unfortunately for Spurs rebounded to safety. This was to prove pivotal in what was to follow. Andra fired wide a few minutes later before the referee blew for half time with the score 1-0 to Spurs.

At half time Siobhan Jones and Amy Cooper replaced Dempsey Favell and Rhianne Dimmock respectively. The visitors almost leveled on 50 minutes from a shot that deceived Angela.  Fortunately Harley Keenlyside was on hand to clear off the line.

Two minutes later it was all-square when a Camden player fired home from the D to make the score 1-1. Spurs chances were few and far between as they struggled to impose themselves on the opposition. Charlotte Dean had a shot blocked before Phoebe Eshen replaced Andra as the game entered the final quarter of an hour.

Siobhan Wilson had a shot saved on 80 minutes and it looked increasingly likely that the match would end all square. However with two minutes to go Camden broke and fired past Angela and into the net to make the score 1-2 to the visitors and condemn Spurs to their first league defeat of the season.

It was a poor performance from the girls on the day who know they can do better. They need to learn from this and try to bounce back in their next game.

TRING ATHLETIC 2
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC DEVELOPMENT 0
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Spurs Ladies Development Team visited Tring Athletic on a miserable day without the services of Siobhan Wilson and Phoebe Eshen. Unfortunately the football served up by the girls did nothing to warm up those watching as their dip in form continued.

With three minutes on the clock Amy Cooper found Charlotte Dean on the edge of the area who shot wide.  With a dozen gone Amy herself fired wide. A minute later at the other end the hosts tested Angela McGann who was up to the challenge saving well. Tring really began to turn the screw firing just over from a free kick before forcing another save from Angela.

Spurs struggled to impose themselves on the game so it was unsurprising when they fell behind after a succession of throw-ins led to a corner. The ball was swung in and headed home by an unmarked attacker to make the score 1-0 to Tring.

Amy had a half chance on 35 minutes firing wide. This was the last chance Spurs fashioned in the half - indeed they had to defend a number of corners before the referee called time with the score 1-0 to Tring.

Katie Mills and Siobhan Jones were withdrawn at the break being replaced by Jess Preston and Andra Marcoci respectively. Andra was in the game almost immediately having a shot saved by the Tring keeper.

Tring hit the Spurs crossbar on 47 minutes following a mix up in the Spurs defence. Angela did well to save a goal-bound effort a minute later as the hosts pushed for that killer second goal.

Dempsey Favell had two shots saved in as many minutes on the hour but the Spurs chances were half chances and they struggled to find any rhythm. That said Amy was having an excellent game in midfield driving the team forward in what was proving to be a frustrating afternoon.

With 15 minutes to go the game was effectively finished when Tring cut through the Spurs defence before firing home to make the score 2-0 to the hosts.

Ayse Mustafa and Andra had shots saved before the referee bought the game to a close with Spurs well beaten by a good Tring side and the score-line 2-0 to the hosts. The girls need to pick themselves up before next weeks match against Leyton.

LEYTON 1
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Spurs entertained Leyton seeking to throw off their mid season hangover without the services of Dempsey Favell and Siobhan Wilson. What followed proved to be a match rich in entertainment that could have gone either way.

There was some early sparring between the two teams before Spurs fashioned the first goal-scoring opportunity on 18 minutes when Phoebe Eshen's corner flew across the Leyton goal before being cleared off the line. Two minutes later Leyton broke but Angela McGann was on hand to cut it out.  Five minutes later a Leyton defender was yellow carded for a foul as Spurs pressed. Katie Mills departed the action on the half hour with illness being replaced by Rhianne Dimmock with Harley Keenlyside moving to central defence.

Leyton had a shot saved by Angela on 35 minutes before firing over the crossbar two minutes later. Jess Preston was called upon on 38 minutes to make a great challenge to prevent a goal-scoring opportunity as the visitors pressed.

The great defending from Spurs was rewarded on 39 minutes when Rhianne found Andra Marcoci on the left hand side of the Leyton area. Andra cut inside and fired home to make the score 1-0 to Spurs.

As the first half entered stoppage time it was all square when Leyton breached the Spurs defence and scoring the equaliser to make the half time score 1-1.

Spurs started the second half well when Phoebe crossed to Andra with the latter firing just over the bar. Leyton nearly went ahead on 48 minutes but Jess was on hand to clear for a corner.

On the hour Siobhan Jones rounded the keeper but was unlucky to see her shot cleared off the line as both teams were going for the win. Two minutes later Leyton fired into the Spurs side netting. With 65 minutes gone Charlotte Dean was replaced by Iris Isok.

Four minutes later Spurs regained the lead following a mazy run by Andra that started on the left flank before cutting into the area, rounding the keeper and getting a shot away that was cleared off the line. Fortunately Siobhan Jones was first to the rebound and slotted home to make the score 2-1 to Spurs.

Two minutes later Leyton fired over from a dangerous position. With 10 minutes to go Rhianne broke down the left flank and fired in a dangerous cross that was not attacked by the Spurs forwards.

Leyton poured forward looking for an equaliser and Angela made a good save to preserve Spurs narrow advantage. Ayse Mustafa worked a shot from nothing that was well saved by the Leyton keeper.

As the game entered stoppage time the visitors broke and fired narrowly wide before the referee blew for time with Spurs sealing a win to end their run of poor results. Well-played ladies against a very good Leyton team.

The league title is still out of Spurs hands as I type but today's result and those elsewhere has me feeling that there are a number of twists and turns still to come before the fate of the title is decided.

Finally I just want to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a prosperous 2012.

Come On You Spurs.

WATFORD DEVELOPMENT 1
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Happy New Year! Spurs first game of 2012 saw us take on Watford Development without the services of Iris Isok.

It was the visitors who carved out the first chance of note volleying just over the Spurs bar following a free kick after five minutes.  Spurs then got on the front foot themselves winning a free kick in the Watford half.  Ayse Mustafa took the kick and found Charlotte Dean who saw her shot saved by the keeper.  A minute later Andra Marcoci had a firm shot tipped onto the bar and over by the Watford keeper.  Spurs took the lead with 15 minutes gone with keeper Angela McGann earning herself an assist.  Her long drop kick eluded everyone except Siobhan Jones, who gathered the ball and took it into the area before slotting home to make the score 1-0 to Spurs.

The game developed into a bit of a stalemate for the next few minutes without either team fashioning many chances of note.  With 30 minutes gone Spurs won a free kick on the edge of the Watford area following a foul on Dempsey Favell. Ayse took the kick, crossing to Jess Preston who headed over.  Just prior to half time Danielle Hayes broke down the right before crossing to Siobhan Jones who just failed to convert - the half ended shortly afterwards with the score at 1-0 to Spurs.

Katie Mills and Siobhan Wilson replaced Harley Keenlyside and Dempsey Favell respectively at the interval. Five minutes into the second half Spurs doubled their advantage when Amy Cooper found Siobhan Jones in the area. She turned and fired home to make the score 2-0 to Spurs.

Three minutes later Spurs increased their lead when Charlotte won the ball on the edge of the area. Andra was quick to the resulting loose ball and smashed an unstoppable shot past the keeper and into the net to make the score 3-0 to Spurs.

Spurs were on fire now and made the score 4-0 on 55 minutes when Siobhan Wilson broke down the left pulling the ball back to Andra who fired home. This effectively ended the match as a contest.

A minute later Siobhan Wilson again broke down the left flank this time crossing to Siobhan Jones who was unlucky not to score with a deft flick.  Shortly afterwards Ayse was replaced by Phoebe Eshen.  With 68 minutes gone Charlotte had a shot saved from distance.  A minute later Rhianne Dimmock went close with an audacious effort from close to the halfway line seeing her shot tipped over by the Watford keeper.  Andra had a shot saved on 70 minutes with the visitors firing just wide a minute later. Angela unleashed another long drop kick that found its way to Phoebe on 75 minutes. She took the ball on and fired just wide of the post.

Siobhan Jones fired over a minute later with Watford seeing an effort just clear the Spurs upright following a break shortly afterwards.  At the other end Phoebe had a shot saved when through on goal.  With 82 minutes gone Spurs won a corner.  Siobhan Wilson crossed the ball which was met by Siobhan Jones who was unlucky to see her effort rebound off the bar.  Fortunately for Spurs, Jess was on hand to force the ball home and make the score 5-0 to Spurs.

The visitors pulled a consolation goal back on 88 minutes to make the score 5-1 to Spurs.  This it transpired was the final score as the referee blew for time shortly afterwards.

Congratulation to the girls on what was a comfortable victory achieved with a number of the players suffering from illness.

A very good start to the New Year.

BUSHEY RANGERS 0
Greater London Regional Women's Football League - Division 1 North

Spurs arrived at a cold Bushey without the services of Danielle Hayes.  Spurs were quick out of the blocks, and with only five minutes on the clock, Siobhan Wilson broke down the left and was unlucky to see her shot saved for a corner.

The Rangers defence were unable to clear the resulting corner and the ball eventually found its way to Phoebe Eshen who forced the ball home to make the score 1-0 to Spurs.

The hosts responded well and immediately went on the attack. Angela McGann had to come off her line to save well from an on rushing attacker. Bushey shot over the bar with 15 minutes on the clock in a half of few chances.

Phoebe fashioned a chance for herself on 25 minutes showing good strength to hold off a Bushey defender before firing just wide of the upright. Just prior to half time Amy Cooper played in Phoebe who did well to get a shot away that flew narrowly wide of the post. The referee blew to end the half shortly afterwards with the score 1-0 to Spurs.

At the break Spurs rang the changes with Siobhan Jones and Ayse Mustafa entering the fray in place of the injured Siobhan Wilson and Charlotte Dean. Five minutes after the restart Ayse played in Iris Isok who had her shot well saved by the Rangers keeper. Ayse herself then fired narrowly over the bar as Spurs sought to extend their lead.

Andra Marcoci replaced Phoebe after 55 minutes. It proved to be an inspired substitution as five minutes later Siobhan Jones won the ball in the area before taking the ball round the keeper and squaring to Andra leaving her the straightforward task of slotting home to make the score 2-0 to Spurs.

With 70 minutes gone Iris won the ball from a Bushey defender. She moved into the penalty area before unleashing a shot that the keeper did well to save. The ball rebounded to Amy who shot just wide.

The temperature dropped which seemed to affect both sets of players resulting in few chances of note. Jess Preston, Katie Mills, Harley Keenlyside and Rianne Dimmock were rarely troubled at the back as the game petered out. With five minutes to go Angela dived bravely at the feet of a Rangers attacker to prevent the hosts from reducing the deficit.

The referee bought the game to a close shortly afterwards with the final score 2-0 to Spurs.

A good win on a cold day that keeps up the pressure on the teams around us.
