London Women 2
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 3
London & South East Women's Regional Football League - Premier Division
Spurs started their league season with a fine comeback win over London Women to record a 3-2 victory.

An early Tottenham attack forced a corner, which was cleared and Kat Clifton got in a dangerous cross, but a good run by Faye Callaway could not make more of the chance.  The home side hit back with an attack of their own and they won a free-kick, but Laura May made a comfortable save from the resulting dead-ball situation.

The first goal of the game came from another Tottenham corner, when the ball was touched on and Kat was on hand to hit the top corner to give Spurs a 1-0 lead.  The lead was short-lived though and a break through the Spurs defence saw a London Women's player race onto the ball and lob Laura to equalise.

In what was an open game, Spurs almost regained the lead when Rosi Webb's shot was blocked in front of goal and Gill Blackmore was just unable to force home the rebound.  Unfortunately for THLFC, they went into the half-time break a goal behind, when London Women scored from a cross just before the interval.

Into the second half, Spurs started to gain confidence from their passing game and Kat nearly set up Faye once more with a cross, but again, it came to nothing.  As the game progressed, Kat was having more influence and a shot forced the home keeper to a save and then Tottenham gained a player advantage when London Women had a player injured with ligament problems and had to leave the field.  They were further hampered when another player broke her wrist.

Things then got even worse for LW, as Tottenham chased the game and fired in a shot was saved by the goalie, but she painfully dislocated her finger in the process, forcing a change of personnel between the sticks.  Exploiting the situation, Tottenham put the home defence under pressure and Vicci Pritchard struck a good shot that the new keeper could only palm out and Jessie Richards was on hand to net the loose ball to make it 2-2.

With the game swinging in Tottenham's favour, the pressure finally told when substitute Clare Singh put in a pin-point cross for Jessie to finish with confidence to give Spurs a lead they held onto until the end for a three point start to the season.

We wish the injured London Women players a speedy recovery and the all the best for the rest of the season.

Staines Town 3
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 4
WFA Cup - First Qualifying Round
Despite being reduced to ten players, Spurs Ladies stuck at their task of holding onto a hard-earned lead to progress in the WFA Cup at the expense of Staines Town.

THLFC started off well with some good passing which put Rosi Webb through on goal, but the striker was unable to find the target.  It was not long before Staines took the lead with a strike from 20 yards after 20 minutes.

Tottenham hit back straight away and again, a good passing move gave Vicci Pritchard a shooting opportunity from 18 yards and the keeper made a good save to deny her an equaliser.  Staines hit Spurs on the break and Laura May rushed out of her goal and mis-timed a tackle gaining a yellow card.  Fortunately, Kelly Herrett was covering behind Laura, otherwise the referee's card could have been a different colour.  The ref awarded a direct free-kick for the tackle which just went over the bar when it was taken.

Spending too much time on the ball, our Ladies allowed chances to go to waste, especially when the play was spread to the wings, giving the Staines defence time to reform.  There was a lack of communication and Spurs were not playing the game as they should have been doing.  An error from the goalkeeper lead to a second goal for Staines.

At the start of the second half, THLFC came out with a reinvigorated conviction and were soon awarded a corner, which was taken by Clare Singh and it fell short to Gill Blackmore, who hit her shot over the bar.

Pressure for the Spurs forwards forced a defensive error by Staines and Vicci planted to the ball into the back of the net to reduce the arrears to 2-1.

Tensions were running high and there was a confrontation between Rosi and one of the Staines players, with both being lucky not to receive yellow cards.  Yet another breakdown in communication and some poor decision making leads to Staines' third goal, where the Staines player is left with time to look up and pick a pass to her team mate in the THLFC box, who finished clinically.

Instead of dropping their heads Tottenham dug deep.  Gill played a nice through ball to Rosi, who calmly slotted the ball in the net for 3-2.  With changes to the eleven on the pitch, Spurs continued with the fight-back and were awarded a free kick.  Free-kick expert Kelly took it and the keeper saved her shot on goal.  Jessie Richards chased down a long ball and with a low driven cross into the box, Kat latches onto it and passes it to Rosi to score.  3-3.  Game on !!

With the momentum now in Tottenham's favour, Jessie struck a shot across the goal and at the far post, Jade followed up to beat the keeper to put Spurs ahead for the first time in the tie at 4-3.  Tensions became even more highly strung and the Staines no. 8 went into a tackle with in with Jade with her studs up and in a moment of madness, Jade retaliated.  The ref did not see this and gave Spurs a free-kick, but the linesman drew his attention to what he had seen and he then showed Jade a straight red card.  Surprisingly, there was no punishment for the Staines player, who was already on a yellow card and the free kick was given against us.

For the next 10 minutes, THLFC close ranks with their ten women and finally show that they are functioning as a team to keep the score at 4-3.

This was by no means a pretty performance.  However, it shows the character of the girls and the resilience they have in their make-up to make such a spirited comeback to go through to the Second Qualifying Round of the WFA Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 4
Littlehampton 1
London & South East Women's Regional Football League - Premier Division
Spurs Ladies continued their confident start to the season with a convincing 4-1 home league win against Littlehampton.

The visitors started quickest and got a corner, which was not taken too well, but went through everyone in the goalmouth.  Jenny Curtis was prominent in the early stages in breaking up attacks, wit Kat Clifton's passing opening up the opposition defence for Faye Callaway, but she was caught offside.

Kelly Herrett chased a long ball and had to do her famous forward roll over the fence to prevent Littlehampton getting a corner.   Kat got a knock to the head and was temporarily off the pitch not long after Kelly needed to go off to get her knee strapped, so Spurs were down to nine players, but the team kept their heads and played compactly to stop any threat on goal.

Jessie Richards showed her pace and ran past two players before taking a shot, which was deflected wide. Now restored to 11 players, Gill Blackmore played the ball through to Jessie, who squared it for Rosi, but her touch let her down before she could get a shot away.  Kelly then played a long ball to Rosi and this time she took the chance by lobbing the keeper to make it 1-0 to THLFC.

The Ladies stayed strong after taking the lead.  Faye crossed the ball, but it was intercepted by Littlehampton, before Kat won the ball back, winning a THLFC throw-in.  Jessie crossed the ball into the box, but there is no one on the end of it.

Dom Clarke knocked a good pass to Faye, who turned her marker, then passed to Jessie, who fed it through to Gill.  Taking her shot early, it unfortunately went wide.  Lisa McCabe was called into action when a Littlehampton free kick was caught by the wind and it took it towards the goal, bringing a save from the Spurs keeper.

Faye played a pass to Rosi, who played it on to Samrawit Bereket, who, from a tight angle, beat the keeper with her shot to put Tottenham 2-0 ahead.

A Littlehampton corner saw Lisa pat the ball out, however it is cleared by the alert Kelly Herrett.  When the ball was played back in by Littlehampton, one of their players took a shot, which Lisa saved.  The visitors still kept up the pressure and a low corner was shot into the corner of the net to bring the score back to 2-1.

THLFC hit straight back and after good build up play, the ball came to Jessie, whose shot flew wide.

THLFC started the second half strongly, with Jessie linking well with Rosie, who took the ball wide of goal and hit the ball with her left foot just wide.  Kat passed to Jessie, but the ball was won back by Littlehampton.  Determined to regain the ball, Kat won possession, then ran at three defenders and beat the keeper with a left shot into the top right corner.  3-1.

Keen to hit back, Littlehampton attack, but it is cleared by Dom to Rosi, who switches play to Samrawit, who was just unable to get the cross in.  Maintaining the attacks, Rosi made a run down the wing, crossed to Jessie, who hit a shot against the post.  Vicci Pritchard came on for Jessie to add fresh legs up front and immediately, Gill made a run but was fouled by a defender.  Samrawit's throw-in to Vicci, saw her take a good first touch and turn the defender, before hitting the bar with her powerful shot.  Alert to the opportunity, Rosi got to the second ball first and again, it was a tight angle, but the striker did well to slot it into the net to wrap up the scoring at 4-1.

Littlehampton didn't give up and went on the attack, but once more Jenny stopped their progress with a good clearance.

WFA Cup - Second Qualifying Round
Tottenham were on the wrong end of some debatable decisions as they were beaten in the WFA Cup at Acton Sports Club.

Spurs faced some heavy pressure from Acton in the opening exchanges, but Kelly Herrett played a good ball through to Samrawit, whose shot went wide.  THLFC got their first corner from a deflected shot by Rosi Webb and from the corner, Kelly headed narrowly wide.  Shortly after, Samrawit was only just unable to latch onto a shot from Jessie Richards.

There was a lot of busy play in midfield, but Rosi had two shots on goal, with only the intervention of Acton defenders making the shots go wide of the target.  Acton put some good passing together to cause Spurs some problems, but Kat Clifton alleviated the pressure by keeping possession of the ball in the Acton half, giving THLFC time to regain their shape.

A corner kick for Acton brought about a shot at the Spurs goal, which seemed to be cleared from the line, but the linesman thought differently and awarded the goal to the home side.

Spurs had to make an early substitution, as Jade Perrin replaced Samrawit, who was unwell.  A spell of THLFC pressure lead to Rosi crossing the ball to Jade to shoot, but her effort hit the side netting.

Into the second half, the first shot at goal went to Tottenham with an effort going over the bar, but soon after, a free kick to Acton sees the ball go over the Spurs keepers head to give them a 2-0 advantage.

With play being concentrated in the middle of the park, chances were in short supply, but Jessie got half a chance and was disappointed to see it go just wide.  Vicci Pritchard came on for Faye and linked well with Rosi and Jessie with some good passing, creating the space for an excellent shot by Jessie to bring the score back to 2-1.

A quick throw-out from Lisa McCabe to Dom Clarke starts a move that leads to a great shot from Jessie, which the keeper did well to save.  However, Acton are quick to put the pressure back on, keeping THLFC on their toes and away from their own goal.

A free kick was played into the Acton area by Kelly to give Jessie another shooting opportunity, but once more she was denied by the goalkeeper.

As the game came towards the final whistle, a late challenge by a Tottenham defender saw Acton awarded a penalty and it was converted to make the final score 3-1 and end this season's WFA Cup campaign.

Littlehampton Town 2
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 2
London & South East Women's Regional Football League - Premier Division
Spurs trekked down to the South Coast to play their return game against Littlehampton Town in the L&SEWRFL Premier Division.

Littlehampton started off strongly with an attack which was easily broken up by the THLFC skipper.  Kerry Daniells played a nice ball up to Rosi Webb, but she was dragged back by an offside flag.  Tottenham continued building the pressure and the ball moved from Kat Clifton to Jessie Richards and on to Rosi, with the end shot going just wide.

Littlehampton were awarded a free kick, which was cleared by Kerry and Faye Callaway latched onto it, running down the wing and passing the ball on to Jessie on the line, but she was tackled giving THLFC a throw in.  Dom Clarke met the ball from the throw-in and passes it onto Gill Blackmore, who is in on goal, however the linesman gave offside.

Spurs were still on the attack, as Kat gave the ball to Rosi and she scored to give THLFC the lead.  From the whistle for the restart, Kat plays a ball through to Gill, but the keeper comes out and clears the danger on this occasion.

The pressure on the home goal saw Tottenham win a free kick, which was taken by Kerry Daniells.  The ball into the area was cleared by Littlehampton, but it fell into the path of Kat, who laid it off to Dom, who takes a shot that was just tipped over the bar by the Town keeper.

Another free kick was won by Littlehampton in a dangerous area, however, they did not convert it and then on the break, Dom passed to Kat, whose flick found Rosi and was through on goal, but once more, she was deemed off-side.  Right back Dom played the ball forward to Rosi, who took a shot which is blocked and Faye follows its up, but her effort went just wide of the mark.

Again, Littlehampton got a free kick, which was knocked into our penalty area, but lack of communication leads to it finding it's way into the net to make the score 1-1.  A Spurs attack down the wing by Gill won a corner, but although the ball bobbled about in the danger area, Spurs just could not put it in the net.

Into the second half, Jenny Curtis played the ball up to Rosi, who linked well with Jessie and as the Littlehampton keeper came out, Jessie dinked the ball over the keeper to put Tottenham 2-1 ahead.

Rosi had a shot blocked as Spurs went on the attack again, while at the back, Littlehampton broke away, but centre back Jenny had it covered.  Littlehampton were soon awarded another free kick and this time, the THLFC keeper comes out and miss clears the ball, which is stuck into the net to bring the score level at 2-2.

Spurs continue to attack to try and find the winner and in the Littlehampton area, Gill fires a shot against the crossbar and Kat follows up, but again the ball just went agonisingly wide.  Jenny cleared a long ball to Rosi, who ran down the line and crossed to substitute Jade Perrin.  Her effort troubled the keeper, who did not clear the ball cleanly and it fell back to Jade, who is denied the goal by the Littlehampton defence.

This was a better overall performance by the team, but we must learn to convert our chances if we are to take full points from games like these.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 4
Kent Magpies 1
London County Cup - Round 2
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies progressed to the Third Round of the London County Cup with a good second half performance to overcome Kent Magpies.

THLFC started off sprightly, with some good passing between Samrawit Bereket and Faye Callaway on the right wing, with the first chance coming as Faye headed the ball onto Samrawit, who shoots just wide.  A Spurs free-kick taken by Dom Clarke picked out Samrawit, who laid the ball off to Rosi Webb, who struck a shot across the goal.  Gill Blackmore was there, but was just unable to get a toe to it.

Kerry Daniells won a strong tackle, nut-megged a Magpies player and played the ball down the line, but it was intercepted by a Kent player, just before it reached it's target.  Rosi hit another shot, wide of the mark again, then Dom passed to Kat Clifton, who beat off the defender and took a shot, which flew over the bar.

Kat then set up Samrawit, who hit a low shot which was saved.  Mel Berry was controlling the midfield and played the ball to Samrawit, who moved the ball to Rosi, who just lost control at the last minute, allowing the keeper to save.

From a THLFC corner taken quickly by Gill, the ball went short to Kerry and her cross into the box saw a KM defender just clear from danger before the Spurs strikers could pounce.  From a throw in, Faye latched onto the ball and brought a finger-tip save from the Magpies keeper, who pushed it over the bar.  In a neat move, Kat passed to Samrawit, who put the ball back to Kat, who brought out a tricky flick, returning the ball to Samrawit once more.  The ball was passed on to Gill who was unlucky with the resulting effort, but the teams reached half-time at 0-0.

Spurs come out positively and were soon rewarded when Rosi picked up a loose ball and hit her shot that beat the keeper to make it 1-0.

Kent Magpies hit back with an attack and Lisa McCabe was called into action, making a good save.  Play swung to the other end, as Kelly Herrett headed forward to Faye, who played in Rosi, who, from a tight angle after rounding a defender made the score 2-0 to Spurs.

Shortly after, Samrawit and Rosi link up well, moving the ball into the final third and they create a chance for the waiting Gill Blackmore to strike Tottenham's third goal.  However, a moment's lapse of concentration by the Tottenham goalie lead to a mis-kick and the ball ended up in the Spurs net to peg them back at 3-1.

Spurs pushed forward to try and restore the margin of their lead, with Mel taking a shot that deflects off a defender and although Samrawit was alert to the opportunity, she could not force the ball home.  Dom went up for a defensive header and clashed heads with a Kent Magpie player, but luckily no-one is seriously injured.  However, Dom emerged sporting her bandage around her head as a trendy line in headgear.

The stoppage did not disrupt Spurs, as Faye took a shot with her right foot from distance and lobbed the visiting keeper  to extend the Tottenham lead to 4-1.  To consolidate things, Spurs made a double substitution, with Dee Gilbert coming on for her debut in senior football and Clare Singh replaced Gill.  Dom showed she was not dazed from her bumped head as picked out a long pass forward to Dee, who just failed to convert the opportunity, but the final whistle made it a successful result for Tottenham against a gallant Kent Magpies side.

Crowborough 0
London & South East Women's Regional Football League - Premier Division
Another win kept the Spurs Ladies First team unbeaten this season so far in the L&SERWFL Premier Division, as they beat Crowborough 2-0 at Fred Knights.

The ladies started spritely with an early good one-two between Kat Clifton and Jessie Richards leading to THLFC's first corner.  More good inter-play between Mel Berry and Kat lead to a deep cross that just went wide.

At the other end, a good defensive stop was needed from Athena Yennaris to stop a shot on goal, shortly followed by a break forward to play a strong pass to Faye Callaway.  Her nice flick on to Jess leads to a half-chance, which saw an attempt at goal.  With the pressure on the Crowborough goal, a throw-in from Dom Clarke to Kat saw the ball fed on to Jess whose low shot that looked like it was going into the corner of the net was stopped by the keepers knee.

Rosi Webb won a free-kick and Kerry Daniells' delivery was beautiful allowing Jessie to get her head to it and make the score 1-0 to Tottenham.

Spurs Ladies were creating a number of chances, with Kat and Dom setting up Mel, who shot just wide.  A THLFC corner shortly after was taken by Gill Blackmore and it produced a strike for Kelly Herrett, which flew just wide.  The opportunities kept coming and when a reverse pass to Faye lead to a cheeky shot by Kerry, she was unlucky to see it hit the side netting.

There was some good one touch football through the middle of the park by Spurs and the resulting shot from Gill was just too high, but then a quick attack by Crowborough ended with their striker hitting a shot just wide.

Good control by Jessie set up Rosi with a looping shot that hit the crossbar and there was nobody on hand to follow up the loose ball.  A corner was then headed wide by Kelly.

Into the second half and Crowborough came out strongly, but so did THLFC stringing together some good passing.  Some good passing through the middle of the team between Mel and Gill produced a through ball to Rosi, but her effort on goal was just wide.

A Crowborough free-kick caused some consternation in the Spurs defence, with Gill getting her head to the ball, but it went towards our own goal forcing keeper Lisa McCabe into action.  Soon after Dom's free-kick at the other end left the Crowborough defence struggling to clear it.

More good build up play from the back between Athena, Kerry and Faye forced Crowborough back.  A Spurs corner was played into the box and it was not converted, but it was like a hot potato in the visitors goalmouth, with many players trying to clinch the goal.  Finally, the ball fell to Rosi, who gets hit the second Tottenham goal.

Today's was a better performance, but it emphasised the need start to covert more of the many chances the team are creating.

Ebbsfleet 3
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 0
London & South East Women's Regional Football League - Premier Division
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies suffered their first set-back of the league season with a 0-3 defeat at Ebbsfleet today.

THLFC started the game well, with some good early pressure play and they were unlucky with their first shot on goal.  The home team earned a free-kick, which, when played in, was easily collected by Lisa McCabe.

Athena Yennaris was sweeping up neatly at the rear and when she collected a ball, it was played over the top and made it difficult for the Ebbsfleet defence to get rid off.  The hosts quickly returned the ball with the same tactic - a long ball - which was calmly dealt with by Athena.  With much of the game being played in a similar vein, it was like a game of ping pong and the Tottenham defence was under immense pressure.  However, they were working well together.

When the ball got to the forwards, Rosi Webb played it to Jessie Richards, who laid it off to Hayley Graham.  The young midfielder crossed the ball back to Rosi, who forced the keeper into a save.  Hayley linked well with Rosi once more, heading the ball into her path to shoot, but it was off target.

When Spurs gave the ball away cheaply, they were put under pressure at the back and had to work hard as a unit to deal with the possession Ebbsfleet had.

The teams changed ends with the score 0-0 and Spurs hit the first shot in anger of the second half, when Mel Berry found Rosi with a good pass, but once more the shot went over the bar.  Dom Clarke almost found Jessie with a perceptive pass, but it was cut out.

Soon, it was Ebbsfleet on the attack, as they switched the ball to the left and their winger beat one player, crossed it into the box and the Ebbsfleet forward was left with a free header to make it 1-0.

Almost immediately Ebbsfleet attack again, but this time it was cleared off the line.  The ball was knocked back into the Spurs area and Dom was there to clear it out, but it soon came back.  This time Kerry Daniells couldn't quite get her foot to it, as the ball went in for 2-0.

Dom was replaced by Kat Clifton, who immediately pressed forward and crossed the ball to Hayley, who laid it off to Jessie but unfortunately, her shot was wide of the goal.  Faye took a knock and was replaced by Vicci.  A Spurs attack found Rosi in a good position, but again she was just unable to convert.

A free-kick to Ebbsfleet resulted in the third goal of the game and the THLFC side showed spirit, as the home goalie was forced into action to make another save.

While the result went against Tottenham today, the ladies played well and dug deep to keep going until the end of the game, despite being on the wrong end of the scoring.
