The points were shared as
Spurs Ladies visited Northampton Town in the South East Combination and
came away with a 1-1 draw.
Having the best of the first
half, Tottenham's forward play gave the Cobblers quite a few problems
and only some good saves by the Town keeper and the crossbar stopped
Spurs having the lead at the break.
However, shortly after
the restart, Tottenham seized on a moment of indecision in the
Northampton defence to open the scoring, but this fired the home team up
and they pushed forward onto the Tottenham defence to seek an equaliser.
This came with a shot past the Spurs defence, leading to a long period
of possession for the Town team, although neither side created clear cut
chances as the game fizzled out in a tame draw.

wfa cup - round 1 |
|
For the second year
running, Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC went out of the Women's FA Cup to
fellow FA South East Combination side, Northampton Town LFC, with a 0-1
home defeat.
The first half was played in the central midfield zone with no clear cut
chances until keeper Ebony Cabey-Gooden pulled off a tremendous save low
down to her right in the 38th minute.
The teams turned around with no score on the board, but in the second
half, Northampton switched into gear and went ahead with a shot into the
top right hand corner after only 76 seconds of the half.
Spurs upped the tempo with Jenna Schillaci supplying numerous good cross
from the Spurs left which unfortunately couldn't be converted by the
Spurs forwards.
However, Northampton held on to make Monday's second round draw.

Spurs Ladies
maintained their unbeaten home record with a 2-1 victory over Lewes in
the FA Women's South East Combination on Sunday.
Spurs started brightly with the lively front pairing of Rachel Edling
and Alex Small causing major problems for the Lewes defence. However, it
was Emma Kayser who opened the scoring in the 34th minute with an
excellently taken free kick just outside the Lewes box after Alex Small
was brought down.
Spurs started the second half much like the first with Lewes being put
on the back foot. In the 62nd minute Alex Small doubled Spurs
advantage cutting in from the Spurs left to hammer low past the Lewes
keeper.
Lewes pulled one back in the 70th minute from a header from a corner but
the Spurs defence, who were solid throughout, held strong to make the
final result 2-1 to the Spurs.
Spurs start their FA Cup campaign next week with a home tie against
close rivals Northampton Town.

london county cup - round 1 |
Spurs Ladies moved in the
last eight of the London WFA Cup with a comfortable, but uninspiring 2-0
victory over Hackney Women at Hackney Marshes on Sunday.
Spurs started brightly and were ahead after only four minutes when
an Emma Kayser cross was well headed home by Alex Small.
Spurs continued to dominate the rest of the first half with the Hackney
goalkeeper pulling off a series of good saves. However, in general, the
Spurs finishing was lacklustre.
The second half was much like the first with Spurs dominating, but
failing to capitalise in the final third of the pitch. The game was held
up for 20 minutes in the 73rd minute when a clash of heads between
Nicola Cable and a Hackney midfield player required a prompt response
from the London Ambulance Service. We wish both a speedy recovery.
With seven minutes to go, Kirsten Thomson made space in the box and
rifled home to make the final score 2-0.
Spurs go on to meet Hampstead in the next round, with a glory home tie
against Arsenal at stake.

The First team returned to league action with a home fixture against
Cambridge LFC, a team that they had lost both league fixtures against
last season.
Spurs started brightly and almost took the lead in the fourth minute
when Kirsten Shaw hit the upright following a good ball through from
Alex Small. The game then developed into a midfield battle with
Spurs looking at their best when the ball was played down the lines
for Schillaci and Kayser. A number of good balls were swung into
the box before Kirsten Shaw latched onto a Schillaci cross just three
minutes short of half time.
H-T THLFC 1 Cambridge Women 0
The second half was totally dominated by Spurs. In the 51st minute,
Schillaci struck home a well taken free kick from the Spurs right
and repeated this again 13 minutes later. In the 70th minute,
Spurs won a penalty and Schillaci rifled home to score a dead-ball
hat-trick. In the 74th minute, a long drop kick from Cabey-Gooden
took two bounces before substitute Storey rifled the ball home in the
top corner for a 5-0 victory.
The win takes Spurs up to sixth place and maintains the unbroken home
league record.

Spurs Ladies kicked off
their Women's South East Combination League season with an away fixture
to last year's relegated side, Ipswich Town LFC on Sunday at Whitton
United FC's ground.
Spurs, with new Manager Karen Hills at helm plus seven new signings,
started tentatively and found themselves one-nil after only 46 seconds.
Ipswich attacked down their right hand side and a low cross was met with
a strong shot that was well saved by Cabey-Gooden before Ipswich
snaffled up the rebound unchallenged.
Spurs began to settle and although Ipswich had the larger share of the
possession, the Spurs back four held a good line and limited Ipswich to
a number of long range chances.
As the half wore on, much of the Spurs attacking play stemmed from the
right hand side link up of Blackmore and Kayser. In the 29th
minute, a Kayser free-kick went tantalisingly close as it rattled the
Ipswich crossbar.
H-T Ipswich 1 - 0 THLFC
The young Ipswich side started brightly after the break, but Spurs
remained resolute in defending as a team unit with the central defensive
partnership of Griffiths and Berry working well.
In the 75th minute, a long kick out by keeper Cabey-Gooden was chased
down by the ever hard working Alex Small, whose shot was saved, only for
Vanessa Storey to follow up and tap in the equaliser.
By this time, Tottenham's fitness was beginning to show and Thomson and
Cable were winning the best of the midfield exchanges. In the 83rd
minute, Spurs won a free kick ten yards just outside the Ipswich box.
Kayser, who had been unlucky with her effort in the first half, made no
mistake this time as she majestically hit the top right corner of the
goal.
In the closing stages, Ipswich rallied again with Cabey-Gooden tipping
over twice in quick succession but Spurs held on to record a 2-1
victory.

Spurs
Ladies continued their pre-season fixture with an away fixture against
MK Dons (previously Wellingborough United Ladies) on Saturday.
The game
itself was placed at the mighty impressive the Stadium MK, the home of
the Football League One.
MK
Dons started the brighter of the two sides and had much of the
possession in the early stages but failed to capitalize due to the
excellent handling of Spurs captain Ebony Cabey-Gooden and a resolute
Spurs defence. Spurs main threat was always down the right side with
good interchange with Gill Blackmore and Shelley Ovenden. Spurs build
up play continued to improve as the first half but possession was often
lost in the last third with one too many passes.
In the
second half, MK Dons again started brightly with a series of shots just
going wide and corners that the Spur back line handled well. The
movement of Kirsten Thomson into the midfield started to give Spurs more
drive going forward and Sasha Kelly was unlucky with an effort that just
went wide of the left hand post midway through the second half.
In the
74th minute, MK Dons won a penalty after the MK Dons left
winger was brought down in the box close to the Spurs goal line. Ebony
Cabey-Gooden kept Spurs in the match with a fantastic save down to her
left hand side. However, in the 79th minute, MK Dons final
broke down the Spurs defence when a ball cleared following a corner was
floated in from the MK Dons right to be headed in at the far post by
Aileen Whelan.
Spurs
rallied again in the 83rd minute an excellent cross from the left from
Sasha Kelly was struck firmly by Charlotte Snow only to see an excellent
save by the MK Dons keeper low down to her right.
A good
exercise and further lessons learned against another team at Level 3 in
the Womens FA Pyramid.

A warm day greeted Crystal
Palace Ladies to Broxbourne Borough FC to meet Spurs Ladies in a
pre-season friendly.
Despite the heat, the game
was played at a fair pace and there were chances at each end before
Palace seized on hesitancy in the Tottenham defence to shoot in the
first goal of the game. The Eagles added a second with a shot that
flew over Spurs keeper Ebony Cabey-Gooden.
Spurs made some changes
and their more attacking efforts in the second half saw them pull a goal
back when good work down the left hand side was finished well as Sasha
Kelly hooked over the Crystal Palace keeper to make it 1-2.
Unfortunately, the Ladies
could not grab an equaliser, but the game against a team from the level
above the Combination proved a useful work out. |
