Hotspur Ladies Football Club has received a boost from the Spurs
professional senior squad through a scheme that sees Teddy Sheringham
and other regular first team members sponsoring the Ladies subscriptions
for a season.
The contribution
will be donated by 29 of our senior players, which will help the Spurs
Ladies Club with training, match day and travel costs.
The Ladies Club has steadily progressed in size and stature over
the last few years and it is now working toward its new goal of
achieving FA Centre of Excellence status from the start of the 2003/4 season.
Spurs captain
Teddy Sheringham commented: “We are happy to help out the Ladies team
where we can. The lads were
keen on getting involved and we hope the contribution can make a
difference.”
Glenn Weaver,
Chairman of the Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Football Club, added: “This
is a very generous donation by the senior squad.
Our players are keen to reach the highest levels in women’s
football and the contribution by the team will make a significant
difference to our players and the Club.”
Established in
1992, Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Football Club now has five teams that
include U11, U13, U15, Reserve and First team squads.
Competing in the Premier Division of the Greater London Regional
Women’s League, the first team plays it's home matches at Brimsdown
Rovers Football Club with the other sides playing at Frederick Knights
Sports ground on Willoughby Lane, Tottenham.
Lorraine
Sparrow, Jackie Fearon and Gill Blackmore meet Teddy Sheringham, who helped set up the sponsorship arrangement.
