The first game of the season
saw Spurs Reserves with a much changed side and playing in a new league.
The game was scrappy at the
start and it took fifteen minutes for Spurs to settle and take the lead
through Sasha Kelly. Fifteen minutes later, Becky Shephard was put
through on goal and beat the keeper to double Tottenham's lead.
Lekisha Wilson came on at
half-time to make her debut, replacing Jenny Curtis and slotted into the
solid Spurs back four.
Spurs were passing the
ball with more confidence and some neat work released Molly Kmita on the
wing. Molly picked out Becky's run and her finish made the score
3-0. But Fulham were not rolling over and pressurised the Spurs
defence into a rash tackle and they were awarded a penalty, which was
converted to pull the score back to 3-1.
Molly had to be replaced
when she picked up an injury and Catherine Dalton came on in her place,
as the side played out the remainder of the game to record an opening
3-1 win.

London & South-East Womens
Regional Football League - Division 1 (London) |
The
Spurs Ladies Reserves returned this week with a positive attitude
and were bright in their approach to the game, with much of the
possession with some clean passing.
A free
kick given to Brentford just outside the box saw keeper Alice
Burgess get had her hands to it, but unluckily palmed it into the
net. The reserves quickly re-grouped and again applied the
pressure on the Brentford defence, with Chrissie Oshodi unable to
convert her shot on goal. Half time saw the reserves go in 1-0 down.
There
were no changes for the second half, so the team continued in the
same vein and with some good link up play Becky Shephard slotted
home the equaliser.
The team
battled on and were growing in belief, which could be seen in the
confidence of the passing. A lack of concentration saw
Brentford take an opportunity and the ball was slotted home a low
into the right corner of the Tottenham net.
Spurs
did not let their head drop and Sasha Kelly was introduced to
immediately have an effect on the game. It was not long before she
was played a through ball and beat the Brentford keeper 2-2.
The
girls played well today and must take this into the next game.

London County Junior Cup -
Quarter final |
|
The Reserves cruised into
the county cup semi-final with a comprehensive 5-0 win on Sunday over
South London Ladies.
Rosie Carter opened the
scoring in style with a stunning left footed low strike from outside the
area which set the tempo for the next 20 minutes as the team would go
onto score all five goals in that time period.
Just three minutes later some great combination play and movement from
Becky Shephard found her with space to pick out Sara on the far post,
whose courageousness earned her yet another goal where she was able to
keep her
wits about her and slot if past the keeper despite getting clattered
shortly after.
Moments after scoring the second, the Reserves were on the score-sheet
again with Sasha Kelly creating space for herself inside the area and
showed great technique to bend her shot around her defender and the
keeper and into the far right corner of the goal. 3-0.
Spurs continued the deluge of goals with quick combination play on the
edge of the penalty area with a ball back to Becky Shephard who from
outside the area was able to bend her shot also around a crowd of
defenders and again
the keeper again with a finish even Modric would have been proud of.
The scoring was capped off by great teamwork for the the fifth goal with
clever passing in the final third, Sasha picking up the ball outside the
area, linking with Chrissie Oshodi, who provided her with a great
one-two pass for Sasha's second of the game as she got in behind the
back four to slot it past the keeper.
Some great passing and
movement from central midfielders Rosie Carter and captain Gill
Blackmore were essential to the start of most of the teams attacks in a
first half that was a wonderful collective team effort.
Spurs continued to create chances in the second half with shots from
Chrissie and Sam Chase hitting the crossbar. The Reserves also welcomed
Steph back to the squad, who had a solid first appearance of 2012
following an injury last year.
The game also saw yet another clean sheet for the stingy back four of
Dom, Karen, Cece, Jen and goalkeepers Nathtalya and Alice who have
conceded just one goal in the last four games and as a group are proving
extremely
difficult to score against.

The Reserves showed
great character against Knaphill - going into the half time
break 0-1 down they were able to turn it around in the second
half.
Half-time
substitute Becky Shephard fired home the equalizer after captain
Gill Blackmore threaded a wonderful through ball to send
Shephard through one-on-one with the Knaphill goalkeeper, who
made it is six consecutive games with a goal.
Minutes later
some good build up play led to Sasha Kelly being played through
who slotted it past the keeper to make it 2-1. Knaphill fought
hard and get a goal back, some tough tackling from both teams
saw several heated moments but it was Spurs who sealed the game,
Sasha Kelly playing into Chrissie Oshodi who, back to goal, was
able to turn her defender and score a wonderful far post effort.
So a great win for
the reserves who leapfrog MSA Ladies and move up to 6th position
in the table.

Regional Football League - Division 1 (London) |
The Reserves hit the
road this Sunday with a trip to KIKK who looked to go into 2nd
position in the league with a win.
Spurs were slow out
the gates and conceded two goals in the first 15 minutes of the
game and despite gaining control of the games and creating some
good chances before halftime, it was an uphill battle on a large
Mile End Stadium field.
The second half saw
more goals, Rosie Kmita was able to spin her defender on the
wing, break into the penalty area and lift her shot sublimely
over the KIKK goalkeeper.
Kmita turned from
scorer to provider for Spurs second goal as she again beat her
defender down the wing and made an outstanding pass from the
touchline to pick out Becky Shephard's well timed run who
blasted it past the keeper to extend a remarkable seven game
scoring streak.
The game finished
6-2 to K.I.K.K. and Spurs now turn their attention to Luton Town
Reserves back at home next Sunday.
