Although Barking
put up more of a struggle than the result might indicate, the Spurs
Under-10 took to the game with great application and no little amount of
skill.
It was the visitors who made the brighter
start to the match, forcing keeper Rauda Parkes to make a save in the
first minute and Renata Inniss was forced to make a last ditch tackle to
stop a good scoring opportunity for the Barking girls.
Hannah Lyons was causing a lot of
problems for the away team on the left wing and she had three attempts
in quick succession, but failed to trouble the goalkeeper. Renata
also made a good run through the heart of the Barking defence, only to
be stopped by a very well-timed tackle in the area. In the eighth
minute, Tottenham made the breakthrough, when Nikki Hunnable seized on a
ball in the middle of the pitch and ran the ball through to shoot home
making it 1-0.
Spurs kept the pressure on and Hannah was
denied by a god save from the Barking keeper, but from a goal-kick,
Olivia Keown intercepted the ball and shot straight back through a crowd
of players to double the lead in the 10th minute. After two more
minutes, Renata made a good run down the right wing, passed to Nikki and
she squared the ball for Nicole to net the third Spurs goal, to finish
off a very good move by the girls.
The Barking girls did not give up and
kept trying, finally getting their reward after 15 minutes of the match,
when they broke away and scored with a shot from just inside the penalty
box. However, the play swung to the other end again and Hannah had
a shot that went wide and another that forced a good save from the
goalie, who pushed the ball onto the post. From the resulting
corner, she finally got her just desserts for all the shots on goal,
with one that flew past the goalkeeper. At 4-1, the visitors might
have been expected to be down-hearted, but that was not the case, making
a good break ending with the ball being dragged across the face of goal
and then making the Spurs keeper produce a good save to keep a fierce
shot out.
After the change around, Charlotte
McLucas, making her debut, had a good shot saved and Nikki was stopped
by a brave save at her feet. In the seventh minute of the half,
Nikki scored when she was through on the right and shot home to make the
score 5-1. In the next minute, the barking goalie made a great
double save from Rauda's volley and then her follow-up hit the post,
before the keeper denied the Spurs captain again. A goalmouth
scramble in the 12th minute lead to Nikki slotting home a loose ball and
claiming a hat-trick in the match.
Pressing home their advantage, Tottenham
went forward looking for more goals and Rauda had a shot saved by the
goalkeeper, Nikki went close once more and the keeper again showed
courage in diving at Rauda's feet to prevent another goal. Phoebe
Ogunwobi came on and produced a clever cross which fell between three
Spurs players in the area, none of whom could get a foot on it.
With only a few minutes left, Rauda won a tackle on the edge of the
Barking area and shot in the seventh and a final goal came with
virtually the last kick of the match.
Georgia Bruce showed good skill on her
first appearance, twisting and turning away from her marker, before
crossing to Rauda in the area. She took the ball, turned tightly
and slipped the ball into the back of the net to make it 8-1.
Barking were worthy opponents in only
their first match together as an Under-10 side and I am sure they will
develop as a team as the season goes on. For Tottenham Hotspur, it
was a confidence boosting win for Jayne Foster's girls ahead of their
first league match next week at Luton.
The Under 10's
could count themselves unlucky in not snatching at least a point in
their first ever league match against Luton Town Belles.
Spurs defended stoutly in the opening
exchanges with Renata Inniss, Olivia Keown and Ayse Mustafa providing a
strong back line.
Spurs keeper Rauda Parkes was injured
just before the break and during the re-shuffle of the team, Luton took
the advantage with a well taken goal three minutes before the
break.
A more upbeat Spurs side took the field
after the interval and were unlucky not to score through efforts from
Nicky Hunnable and Renata Inniss. However, the Luton defence stood
strong and Spurs were unable to find that elusive equaliser.

The Under 10's
cruised to a 9-1 home victory against Garston Purples in the HGFL on
Saturday.
Nikki Hunnable was the star of the first
half bagging a hat-trick in the first 15 minutes with Spurs other first
half goal being scored by Hannah Lyons.
Phoebe Ogunwobi started the goal flow
with a well taken goal just after the break. Renata Inniss then became
the second Spurs player to score a hat-trick with three excellent goals
in the space of 14 minutes, with Spurs' other goal coming from captain Rauda
Parkes. An excellent all round team performance not only from the noted
goal-scorers, but the younger members of the team in the shape of
Charlotte McLucas, Nicole Bailey and Georgia Bruce, on her league
debut.

The Under-10s ran
up another big score against a valiant Hitchin Belles side at Frederick
Knight's Sports Ground to inflict the visitors biggest defeat so far
this season.
Ayse Mustafa hit a first half hat-trick
and was joined with a triple from Renata Inniss, but the three girls who
played in goal for the visitors during the game stopped Tottenham
reaching double figures with a string of good saves.
Hitchin made it hard for Spurs, who
passed the ball well, but were a little off target in their finishing.
Indeed, the Belles had a spell of good pressure in the second half that
resulted in Ayse being forced to put the ball past her own
goalkeeper.
Good support play by Georgia Bruce,
Hannah Lyons and Charlotte McLucas helped provide the platform for
Nicole Bailey, Nikki Hunnable and Phoebe Ogunwobi to round off the Spurs
scoring in a welcome return to action after a week off from the rigours
of league football last week.

The Tottenham
Ladies Under 10s go marching on as they put in a resounding victory
against the Garston Blues.
Renata
Inniss, Nicky Hunnable and Georgia Bruce proved to be a tough match for
the Garston Ladies as they continued to push forward. Nikki put
the superb Garston goalkeeper to the test on several occasions in the
first half, but it took an opening goal from Renata to put Tottenham in
to a well deserved lead.Georgia
Bruce had a good shot on goal, only to be denied by the Garston Blues
Goalkeeper.The Tottenham
Ladies put together some superb passing to keep the home team under
pressure, which resulted in Nikki Hunnable scoring the second well
deserved goal for Tottenham.
Tottenham
Ladies welcomed the return of Olivia Keown after her long spell away
following injury and illness and along with Charlotte McLucas, Hannah
Lyons and Ayse Mustafa, they made sure that there was no way through for
Garston.Phoebe Ogunwobi
made sure Spurs extended their lead before half time.
Spurs
came out after the interval to put more pressure on Garston Blues with
Renata Inniss’ shot on goal being saved by Garston goalkeeper.Tottenham kept up the pressure which resulted in two goals from
Renata, one from Nikki Hunnable.Nicole
continued to impress with a great shot on goal, which hit the post.
Garston
tried to break down the Spurs defence, but Nicole and Rauda Parkes were
determined to keep a clean sheet for Tottenham and with the help of a
good saving tackle from Nicole this was achieved. Nicole got
her reward as she eventually went on to score a great goal from a
difficult angle to finish off the scoring in the match.

Tottenham
Hotspur Ladies started brightly against a determined Denham United
Ladies Under-10 team, who are just behind Tottenham in the League.Nikki Hunnable and Renata Inniss surged forward to gain the upper
hand, but Denham proved to be quick on the break, so in the early
exchanges the Tottenham defence (who consisted of Nicole Bailey, Hannah
Lyons and Olivia Keown) needed to be strong to keep Denham Ladies at
bay.Denham eventually
broke the Tottenham defence in the seventh minute to take the lead.
From the kick
off Nikki Hunnable and Renata Inniss were determined to even up the
score, with both of them stretching the Denham defence, only to be
denied by the goalkeeper.Nikki’s
cross in the twelfth minute from a corner found Nicole Bailey outside
the penalty area, who struck a wonderful ball past the Denham
goalkeeper, who stood no chance of stopping the equaliser.
Tottenham’s
defence stood firm with some tough tackling from Olivia Keown and Hannah
Lyons.Ayse Mustafa was
linking up nicely with Renata and Phoebe trying to break down a
well-organised Denham defence.It
was Ayse that put Tottenham into the lead just before half time, with an
outstretched leg getting a shot on goal from close range to put
Tottenham 2-1 up at the break.
The start of
the second half saw Nikki’s shot on goal go just past the post, but
Denham were causing Tottenham to defend on the break and then scored
from one of them to even up the score 2-2.
Renata was
trying her hardest to put Tottenham ahead once more and made a long run
forward, ending in her shot being saved by the Denham goalkeeper.Nikki and Ayse tried in vain to put restore the lead, but
the Spurs defence were called into action on the break time and time
again.With some tough
tackling from Nicole Bailey, Phoebe Ogunwobi,Hannah Lyons and Olivia Keown, the team stood firm and linking up
with Georgia Bruce, who came on as a substitute for Ayse, to cause
problems for Denham.
Just when it
looked like Spurs would have to settle for a draw, Charlotte McLucas, on
as substitute for Nicole Bailey, ran at the Denham defence and passed to
Renata to shoot on goal.The
ball fell to Ayse who shot past the Denham goalkeeper to put Tottenham
into a 3-2 lead in the 37th minute.Spurs continued to battle to the very end to clinch a very hard
fought match against closely matched opponents.

Tottenham Under-10s
pulled together to come out on top in this important clash against
Watford, who are sitting joint second in the league with Tottenham.
Tottenham conceded a corner against
Watford Ladies in the early exchanges in the match, but the defence was
more than capable of keeping a vibrant Watford team at bay.Tottenham had a well organised defence in the form of Hannah
Lyons, Nicole Bailey and Olivia Keown and they kept Watford at length
with some determined tackling and clearances.
With the whole Tottenham team working
hard, it was not long before they had a break with Renata Inniss’ shot
on goal coming from a throw in.Watford
were equal to the task, coming close to scoring in the ninth minute, but
Tottenham goalkeeper and captain, Rauda Parkes kept the ball out of the
net.
Nikki Hunnable was in fine form, and at
times stretching the Watford defence and linking up nicely with Ayse
Mustafa, on her 10th birthday and Renata Inniss.Nikki was unfortunate not to score with a fine shot on goal in
the tenth minute.Phoebe
Ogunwobi’s services were called upon when Ayse went off injured and
she slipped in nicely to keep the compact Tottenham U10s together.
Tottenham continued to keep the Watford
team under pressure towards the end of the first half with some superb
passing and shots on goal from the ever improving Nicole Bailey, Nikki
and Ayse (having been treated for her injury).
The first half finished with both teams
on equal terms and able to have a well earned rest.
The second half began with a change for
Tottenham with Georgia Bruce on for Ayse.Watford began by putting the Tottenham defence under pressure
with two corners, with the second corner resulting in a shot on the
Tottenham goal.With a long
kick out by Rauda, the ball fell to Nikki who steamed towards the
Watford goal, closely followed by a Watford defender but with
determination to break the deadlock Nikki shot at the top of the Watford
goal resulting in the ball hitting the back off the net, leaving the
Watford goalkeeper no chance and putting Tottenham into a 1-0 lead in
the 24th minute.Tottenham
continued to play some lovely football with some great passes from
Georgia Bruce to continue to put the Watford defence under pressure.
Tottenham were looking to stretch their
lead with three consecutive corners but to no avail. Both battled it out in the midfield and an equally good Watford
defence made sure that the score line stayed at 1-0, with a jubilant
Tottenham Ladies Under 10 team continuing to march on.

Ladies Under 10s wrapped up another victory despite very difficult
weather conditions (and an England Rugby Match that was being played
somewhere ?).
Tottenham lined up with Rauda Parkes in
goal, Olivia Keown, Hannah Lyons and Charlotte McLucas in defence, with
a forward line up of Georgia Bruce, Ayse Mustafa and Phoebe Ogunwobi. On the sideline were Nikki Hunnable and Nicole Bailey.
The forward line up set off with some
strong forward passing to put the Stevenage defence under pressure from
the start.It did not take
long for Georgia Bruce to open the scoring with a lovely shot from just
inside the area.Ayse
Mustafa ran and tackled to keep the constant pressure on Stevenage and
nearly scored from a tight angle. With
the Tottenham defence coping comfortably with the Stevenage forwards, it
didn’t take long for Georgia to score her second goal to make it 2-0,
in what was proving to be the most difficult weather conditions that
this young Tottenham side had come up against.
A
superb ball was passed to Phoebe in the middle of the pitch, who ran on
to score and put Tottenham 3-0 up.
Rauda
Parkes, the Tottenham captain, was given the chance to shine on the
pitch, with Charlotte McLucas going in goal.Phoebe was not finished with one goal and went on to score again
to make the score 4-0.Georgia
Bruce went on to extend Tottenham’s lead with a goal just before half
time to claim her hat trick.
The start of the second half saw Georgia playing a through ball
to Nikki Hunnable who was unlucky not to score.Stevenage seemed to have upped their performance from the first
half and it took some tough tackling from Charlotte and clearances from
the core defence duo of Hannah and Olivia to stifle the threat from the
Stevenage forwards.
With Tottenham trying to increase their lead, they where awarded a
penalty for a push on Rauda in the Stevenage area.Nikki stepped up to increase the lead only to put it wide. With the weather getting worse, Ayse hitting the post from just
inside the area and Nikki running onto some clever through balls from
Charlotte,Tottenham was
beginning to wonder when the next goal would come. Then a lovely linking pass to Nikki from Charlotte from the
half way line and Nikki strode into the goal area and scored. This increased the lead to 6-0.The game was almost wrapped up, but then Phoebe passed to Nikki
whose shot was blocked by the Stevenage defence, only for the ball to
fall to Nicole Bailey to score from a tight angle on edge off the
penalty area.
