| The
away trip to Bedwell, was eventful even before kick off with some of the
players & their parents getting lost.
Tottenham
got down to business very quickly and soon put Bedwell under pressure,
with the first goal attempt coming from Katie Bell, who was playing
on her favoured right hand side of the pitch, within 30 seconds of kick
off, but unfortunately the ball just went wide. Two
minutes later Katie was back in a goal scoring position, following an
excellent pass from Laura Newby and this time the ball was thumped into
the back of the net. Katie seems to be improving more and more as
the season unfolds. Number
two for the team came from a measured clearance from Hollie Watson in
defence to the feet of Laura, who then turned and ran for goal, slotting
the ball past the keeper after four minutes. A
minute later, the Tottenham team were moving up the pitch once again and
an excellent squared pass from Charlotte McLucas to Vicki Blake, who had
come into the area from defence, was stroked into the back of the net to
make it 3-0 after five minutes. It
was now Charlotte's turn to score, which she did beautifully, after
following up her first shot which was saved by the keeper, she pounced
on the rebound to slot it in the back of the net, to make it 4-0 after
only six minutes. Bedwell, who had been on the back foot for the first six or seven minutes, then, through their number 5, started to push Tottenham back into their own half and Lily-Anna Tyrimos the keeper was called into action to retrieve a few shots which went wide. Following one of these attacks, Hollie cleared the ball to the feet of Charlotte on the left hand side, who then ran into the area and her left foot shot rattled the post. The
Tottenham team had to wait until the 15th minute to see goal
number five, which was an excellent and determined effort by Vicki
Blake, who blasted the ball into the back of the net, with three of her
team mates all bearing down on the goal. Laura’s
second of the day was an excellent goal, as it showed what determination
and follow up, can do in terms of scoring. The goal came after 16
minutes and made it 6-0. Literally
from the kick off, the Tottenham midfield of Paige McHenry, Katie Bell
and Bobbi Cubberley were on the ball in a flash and this time it was
Laura’s turn to deliver an wonderful pass to Bobbi to score her first
goal of the day just 20 seconds after the kick off. Laura
nearly scored another goal just before halftime, following a good pass
by Vicki, but the ball just went wide. One
of the changes at half time was that Lily-Anna came out on pitch, whilst
Shoshana Field replaced her in goal and in the
second half the game was tighter, so it was a number of minutes before
Bobbi had her first shot on goal, which was well saved by the keeper.
Hollie had a run from
the defence, but couldn’t quite find the target and the ball went
wide. Bobbi
broke the second half deadlock after 23 minutes, when she went past a
number of the Bedwell players, managed to avoid the mud patch and beat
the keeper to make it 8-0. There
was an excellent move a few minutes later, which started with Lily-Anna
passing the ball to the feet of Laura on the left, who then stroked the
ball across the goal area to Paige, who was a whisker away from drilling
the ball passed the keeper. Laura’s
well-deserved hat trick came after 28 minutes, when she struck the ball,
firmly and it just squeezed itself under the keeper’s body. Lily-Anna
was involved in the 10th goal, when she delivered a good pass
to the feet of Laura, who spun around and placed the ball into the
bottom left hand corner. To
be fair, Bedwell never gave up and if it wasn’t for a good save from
Shoshana after a firmly struck shot from Bedwell’s number five, then
they would have pulled one back. The
final word came from the well-deserved player of the match Laura, who
scored her fifth goal of the day, following a good pass from Bobbi on
the run. This was a good team effort and the highest goal tally that the team had recorded so far in the season. Well done, I will stop now as I have run out of ink. David Watson |

Spurs maintained their good form with a win
over a determined Luton Town side.
Tottenham's passing made life difficult for the Belles in the first half and an early opening saw Hollie Watson clear forward to forward Laura Newby, who fed partner Bobbi Cubberley to put Spurs ahead with a close range finish in the second minute. Laura followed this up with a shot that brought a save from the Luton keeper and then got one just outside the post when Bobbi played a square pass to her. Nine minutes into the game, Spurs were 2-0 up when a corner was cleared outside the area and it fell to Bobbi who struck a fierce low drive into the net to score. Tottenham's pressure built with two opportunities for Katie Bell, who could not find the net and Hollie, whose shot was close to going in. Vicki Blake was having a fine game in midfield and stole forward to finish a good move between Charlotte McLucas and Katie Bell with a shot over the bar. In the next attack, with half-time approaching, Laura Newby fired in a low shot that the replacement keeper did well to stop, but the loose ball was snaffled into the net by the alert Cubberley to secure her hat-trick and a 3-0 interval lead for Spurs. The team-talk at the break by the Luton coach worked wonders, as his side became much more organised and kept Tottenham at a distance, making their task a lot more difficult. A double save by the keeper in the opening exchanges from Laura Newby failed to add to the score and then Laura turned provider with a right wing cross to Bobbi, whose shot was saved. From the resulting corner, Laura fired in a volley that flew wide. Charlotte hit a shot on the turn from a throw-in that went across the face of goal, Vicki had a long shot well saved and the goalie was brave to block Bobbi's shot from the rebound. As Spurs continued to break down the compact Belles defence, Laura went wide and then hit the post, then Bobbi twice hit shots across the goal. The opposition had done well to stop Spurs in the second half, but just before full-time Tottenham's perseverance paid off with a corner falling in the area to Laura Newby, who struck a low shot past the keeper. There were a flurry of chances in the last minute, with Marva Kreel and Shoshana Field having shots saved and Laura being denied by the goalie's save when through on goal. It was a well earned win, but the Luton side should take heart from their second half performance, which made things hard for Tottenham, who continued to pass the ball well and got the fourth goal their display deserved. |

This top of the table clash between the
sides in second and third places was always going to be a tense,
passionate affair with plenty of drama and action and the reality
didn’t disappoint either the players or supporters. Both teams started at a fast pace and
Tottenham led the first attack through Katie Bell and Bobbi Cubberley
down the left hand side, but the Garston defence held firm. The
game was being played in the middle of the park and Garston Purples were
very quick in closing Spurs down, so Laura Newby and Bobbi were finding
it difficult to play their normal passing game. On a couple of occasions the opposition
broke through and Vicki Blake and Hollie Watson were called into action
in defence. This pressure continued and Garston were now having
shots at goal which produced some good saves from Lily-Anna Tyrimos who
dived at the attacker’s feet or parried the ball away to deny the
opposition. It was from one of the Garston attacks
that Tottenham’s best scoring chance of the first half came, when
Vicki picked up the ball on the edge of her own goal area and ran the
entire length of the pitch at pace. With Garston players bearing
down on her, Vicki tried to chip the advancing keeper and the ball just
went over the bar. This attack seemed to spur Tottenham on and a
few passes were drilled into the opposition's penalty area. Charlotte McLucas was substituted for
Marva Kreel and still Garston came at Tottenham, this produced another
fine save from Lily, who blocked a shot and with the assistance of Vicki
managed to dive on the floating ball. Tottenham pushed on once
again and following some strong tackling by Bobbi, Marva and Katie,
Laura had an opportunity to shoot which just went wide of the target. Garston’s speed and desire to be first
to the ball finally paid off when they broke through once again and
between both attackers managed to scramble a goal to make it 1-0 as both
teams went into half time. This situation was totally alien to the
girls and the manager knew that he would need to try and lift their
spirits for the girls to raise their game if a positive result was going
to be carved out. To their credit the Tottenham girls started the second half more brightly and whilst they weren’t firing on all cylinders they were starting to battle more. Laura had a shot on goal which was well saved by the keeper and after a tactical change between Bobbi and Laura and Marva and Charlotte; the girls were staring to push the Garston girls back. Despite the pressure the girls’
couldn’t quite get away from their markers and the clock was starting
to tick down. After a number of firm challenges in the
middle, Charlotte was brought down on the right hand side of the pitch,
about 35-40 yards out from the goal. Captain Hollie Watson strode
up to take the free kick with six minutes left on the clock. The
Tottenham crowd went silent, Hollie drew back her right foot and the
ball flew into the air, curving towards the top right hand corner of the
goal. The keeper could only get her finger tips to it and it
slammed into the back of the net. The Tottenham supporters went
wild and Hollie returned to defence with a large grin on her face. This was the signal for the Tottenham
team to throw everything at Garston, to try to produce the winner.
Garston were now on the ropes and were defending with all their might.
They managed to with stand the onslaught and almost snatched the winner
themselves, if it wasn’t for Lily who produced an excellent save from
a well struck shot. This was undoubtedly Tottenham’s greatest test to date and the return fixture will be one not to miss. The Tottenham girls had worked hard, especially in the second half and Hollie was voted player of the match by her fellow team mates. David Watson |

This HGFL quarter-final League Cup match
started at a fast pace with Tottenham making the early running.
An early ball after 35 seconds of play
was passed to the left hand side of the pitch and Vicki Blake, coming
out of defence, moved into the penalty area, where she was brought down
when she was through. The ref pointed to the spot and Bobbi
Cubberley calmly walked up to the penalty spot to thump the ball into
the right hand side top corner with precision and finesse. The Spurs girls kept the pressure on and
Bobbi just went wide with her shot a few minutes later. This was
followed by more forging runs and Vicki went close after seven minutes,
but her shot was well saved by the keeper. The Stevenage team
tried to breakthrough the midfield of Marva Kreel, Bobbi and Charlotte
McLucas, but came to a grinding halt when they ran into the defence of
Vicki and Hollie Watson, who continue with their unique understanding at
the back. Goal number two came after 11 minutes,
where the Tottenham team showed their determination to follow
up on loose balls in the area and this was rewarded when Laura Newby
tapped the ball into the back of the net for her first of the day and 29th
of the season. Tottenham hadn’t finished there and
they continued to push forward. A lovely through ball brought
Charlotte into action as she sped towards the goal and just pushed the
ball wide. The third Tottenham goal was probably the
best of the day and it came from Katie Bell who had come on for Marva
who had bravely battled on despite a chest infection. Katie picked up
the ball from 15 yards out and drilled it sweetly passed the Stevenage
keeper after a quarter of an hour of the game. Bobbi, who currently leads the goal
scoring tables, wasn’t finished in the first half and produced a
nicely struck shot after some fierce tackling to make it 4-0 after 16
minutes. Gerry, the Tottenham manager, made some
tactical changes at half time and Paige McHenry came on for Bobbi and
Shoshana Field went into midfield with Katie moving back into defence to
replace Hollie. Both girls got stuck in straight away as the
Stevenage Vixens came out looking for a goal in the second half. Vicki was doing a brilliant job at the
back to stop Stevenage on a number of occasions. For the first
time in the game keeper Lily-Anna Tyrimos was called into action,
producing a number of very good saves from well struck shots. The game was more evenly balanced and
Charlotte had a shot saved and wasn’t afraid to get stuck in to some
difficult challenges, which on some occasions, she took the odd knock
from. Lily produced another solid save from a well struck shot
which came down from a great height to land a few feet in front of her
goal. Katie almost delivered an outstanding
goal, when she blasted the ball from the half way line and it was
snatched away from the goal line by the Stevenage keeper at the last
moment. Shoshana got into the action, by producing a shot of her
own which was well saved by the opposition keeper shortly after. Paige unfortunately had to be substituted
after she received a nasty injury to her right leg. Bobbi spent
little time in getting into the action by passing the ball to Shoshana,
who then passed it on to Laura. She turned her player well
and slotted the ball away to make it 5-0 after 35 minutes. Two minutes later, Shoshana applied
pressure down the right hand side and crossed the ball to Laura whose
shot was perfection to complete her hat-trick for the day and to make it
six. This was an excellent squad effort with
everyone playing a part. Player of the match went to Charlotte who had
battled through despite feeling unwell and being in the firing line on
number of occasions. Excellent book your seats early for the
Semi-Finals. David Watson |

The game kicked off at 10am, a little
earlier than normal and the girls knew that it was going to be a tough
game from the outset
The defence of Hollie Watson and Vicki
Blake held firm and they marshalled their opponents away from the
shooting area. Tottenham,
in the guise of Katie Bell, Charlotte McLucas and Bobbi Cubberley,
started to string some passes together and also started to find Laura
Newby up front, who with her pace and determination, was proving a
handful for the Hoddesdon defence. The defence of Hollie and Vicki were now
also starting to push forward and Tottenham started to go through the
gears, after a run from Hollie which saw the ball being stroked firmly
forward to Laura who nearly got to it before the keeper. The first goal came from a well worked
moved involving Katie, Bobbi and Laura, who ended up hammering the ball
home after six minutes in the bottom right hand corner. This attack was followed by a lovely
strike from Bobbi just inside the penalty area, to slam the ball passed
the opposition keeper to make it 2-0 after seven minutes. Hoddesdon owls weren’t finished and
once again came at the Spurs defence. Lily-Anna Tyrimos was called
into action to gather the ball a couple of times, as it came into her
area and she very intelligently kicked the ball clear after a back pass
had come her way, with Hoddesdon players closing down on her. Tottenham of course are always dangerous
when they are being pinned back, given the pace of a number of their
players on the break. A great example came when Vicki sprang like
a cheetah from the back and ran at full pace towards the Hoddesdon
goal. The keeper came out and whilst Vicki’s shot was blocked,
who other than Bobbi was following behind and blasted the ball into the
goal to make it 3-0. Bobbi wasn’t finished there and had
another long shot at goal, which saw the ball strike the post and be
retrieved by the keeper. With half time approaching it was time to
bring some new faces onto the pitch and Marva Kreel came on for Katie
Bell and Paige McHenry came on for Charlotte McLucas in the midfield. In the second half, Gerry made a further
change and brought Shoshana Field on to replace Bobbi in the midfield.
This new look team battled hard with the Hoddesdon players and the girls
remained solid at the back, whilst still looking for the next goal.
Laura came close to scoring within a
few minutes of the re-start but the keeper just managed to scramble it
away. Shoshana was also battling away in
midfield, with the support of Paige and they were stringing some nice
passes together to try and release Marva and Laura to get into a
shooting position. Lily was every watchful and was called to
pick up the ball in her area a few times, but Hoddesdon were unable to
have one clear cut shot for her to save in the second half. The best goal of the day, came towards
the end of a long second half as captain Laura turned her marker
brilliantly and then managed to hold off a number of defenders to run at
full pace down the right hand side of the pitch and drill the ball
sweetly towards the left hand corner post, which it hit and nestled
itself firmly in the back of the net to make it 4-0. This was a somewhat bruising game, which showed once again the spirit within the Tottenham squad of a focused determination to play quality football and let their skill and pace do the talking. Laura was a very popular player of the match and her last goal is one for goal of the season. A great team performance. DAVID WATSON |

This was an important return match, with
Denham holding Tottenham to a 0-0 draw last time they meet despite Spurs
having most of the possession.
Denham started brightly and Hollie Watson
and Vicki Blake were called into action straight away to defend the
Tottenham goal area. Both sides were battling hard and the game
was being played out in midfield for the first few minutes of the game.
The first clear cut chance fell to Charlotte McLucas who ran on to an
excellent pass from Katie Bell, unfortunately the shot just went wide. Tottenham were now applying constant
pressure on the Denham goal area and some excellent crosses were coming
in from the right hand side by Charlotte to Laura Newby and Katie Bell
who either were denied by a good save from the keeper or the ball just
went passed the post by a whisker. The Tottenham supporters were starting to
get a little nervous and had that feeling of déjà
vû. The spell however was broken in the ninth minute when following a
period of pressure, Bobbi Cubberley had a shot on goal, which rebounded
off the keeper but wasn’t cleared by the Denham defence and Katie
pounced on the ball to stroke it in the back of the net. This goal gave the girls the confidence
they needed and the Denham defence came under even more pressure, with
surging runs by Bobbi, Katie, Charlotte and Laura from all angles of the
pitch. Denham however are a
good side and didn’t give up. They almost broke through the
Tottenham defence who had seen off all attacks to that point, but it
took a great lighting run by Charlotte to clear the ball away from the
Denham striker who nearly got on the end of an overhead kick from
midfield. This seemed to spur the girls on once
again and it could so easily have been 2-0, when Charlotte delivered a
right field cross to Katie, with her shot being scrambled off the line
to go for a corner. This act led to a most bizarre goal.
Charlotte delivered the resulting corner, kicking the ball along the
floor towards the goal, it went through a pack of players hit the back
post and went in after 12 minutes. Tottenham continued to move the ball
around nicely and pepper the Denham goal, without success. The
third goal was delivered on the stroke of 15 minutes by Laura who after
a run down the right side of the pitch and came
into the box to pick up the loose ball and drive it home to make it 3-0. Two subs were then introduced to the game
being Shoshana Field for Katie and Paige McHenry for Laura, both of whom
got stuck in straight away. Denham
pushed forward and there was a goal mouth scramble down the Tottenham
end which saw the ball, being finally cleared by Hollie, with the
assistance of Lily-Anna Tyrimos the keeper. Charlotte
nearly scored her second goal of the game, after an excellent run
through the middle, she struck the ball and it just clipped the post. The girls went in at half time, with
heads held high after an enthralling first half’s performance. The second half, started at a pace and
once again, the Tottenham girls pitched their tents in the Denham half
and pressurised the Denham defence constantly. The
crowd were urging Shoshana to score her first goal for the club, but
despite a number of near misses, she couldn’t quite find the back of
the net of this occasion, but it will only be a matter of time. In the second half, the Denham keeper
played an outstanding game and must have saved at least six potential
goals. One of the best saves came from an excellent shot by Bobbi
who took the ball down on her chest and then delivered a fearsome shot
which the keeper just about saved with her hands and leg. Another
came from a shot by Paige within the goal area and once again the ball
was parried away for a corner. Denham despite being pinned back in their
own half, weren’t afraid to try and break out and if it wasn’t for
some excellent defending by Hollie and Vicki who act in harmony, they
may have broken through. Lily also played an important role in
coming out to collect the ball when necessary, as well as saving a
couple of shots and encouraging the rest of the team from the back, with
her vocal presence. This was a very encouraging team performance, with every girl playing her part in the win. The player of the match was Lily who on many occasions is the unsung hero at the back. David Watson |

Spurs Under-10s faced a determined and well
organised Hemel Hempstead Girls side in wintry conditions at Fred
Knights.
They showed that their passing game could open up even the most stubborn defending and although the first half saw Town Girls putting in a lot of effort to stop Spurs, there was a second half resurgence that managed to get past the visiting defence and their very good goalkeeper. It started brightly for Tottenham, with Charlotte McLucas running a goal-kick back into the area and shooting past the Hemel keeper to give Spurs a second minute lead. The post came to Hemel Hempstead Town Girls' aid in the fourth minute when Bobbi Cubberley set up Laura Newby and her shot hit the frame of the goal. Bobbi hit the other upright in the next minute and then the keeper denied Vicki Blake's shot from outside the area. Both Bobbi and Laura went close, as the Town defence frustrated Tottenham's attempts to by-pass them. On 15 minutes, Spurs did manage to find a way through and it came like a bolt out of the blue. A scramble in the town penalty area saw the ball cleared out to Hollie Watson, who was 18 yards out. Her first time shot flew into the net off the post, rising as it went. It was an unstoppable rocket of a shot and the keeper was left with no chance of keeping it out. In a frantic end to the first half, Katie Bell just failed to get enough curl on a shot that flew wide, then Bobbi hit the post twice - once from her own work and secondly, when the keeper stopped Laura's shot, but Bobbi seized on the rebound only to see her effort bounce back off the woodwork. Tottenham started the second half as strongly as they did the first. In the second minute, Laura Newby broke away on then left and cutting inside, she let fly with a high shot that hit the net for 3-0. Strike partner Bobbi added to the total a couple of minutes after, when she coolly slipped away a shot past the goalie. The visiting side showed more attacking intent in the second half, with some moves forward that had the Spurs defence of Shosana Field and Hollie Watson needing to tidy up at the back. With seven minutes of the second half gone, Laura made it five, as Tottenham began to find a bit more space to play in. Her goal came when she hit a low shot that went in near the post. Tottenham pressed on and Vicki, substitute Louisa Fox and Shoshana Field were all denied by the Hemel Hempstead town goalkeeper, but with fifteen minutes on the clock she was left standing as a scramble on the edge of the box ended with Katie Bell hitting a fierce shot in off the post to make the score 6-0. With Louisa Fox firing into the side-netting after good work from Paige McHenry and Vicki Blake, then Katie Bell hitting a shot over the bar, Tottenham attacked until the end, but were kept at bay by the brave defending of the visiting side. It was a good performance and the girls stuck to their pattern and shape even though they were held up by the Hemel Hempstead Town Girls, who showed they have improved since the teams first met earlier this season. It was a very good game played in a good spirit. |

As the season draws to a close, this top of
the table clash meant that, the girls lined up knowing that little more
than a win would do.
Garston Purples are a good
side who came out of the blocks quickly and they produced the first goal
scoring chance, which was well saved by Lily-Anna Tyrimos. Tottenham then started their game plan.
A
long ball by Hollie Watson set Laura Newby free and whilst on this
occasion it didn’t result in a goal, it was a sign of things to come.
Vicki Blake then made a magnificent run down the wing and passed the
ball across the face of goal to Laura Newby at the far post who came
very close to scoring. Tottenham were now closing the Garston
players down and making sure that they were first to the ball. After a lot of pressure and tension the
first goal arrived courtesy of Bobbi Cubberley who drilled the ball
across the goal to score after eight minutes. This made the team play with
extra flair and a minute later Laura scored the second of the match with
a slide-rule pass from Katie Bell. The Garston side weren’t finished,
however and they remained dangerous opponents with their number 7 being
constantly marshaled by Charlotte McLucas, who had an excellent game in
midfield. One of Tottenham’s key strengths is the
defence, which must be one of the meanest in the league and Vicki Blake
with Hollie Watson continued to ensure that the Garston attackers were
kept away from delivering any devastating crosses. Spurs kept creating chances but
couldn’t quite finish. Nevertheless they continued to apply the pressure
and Laura who was having an outstanding game up front, ran at pace to
secure her 2nd goal of the day and make it 3-0. This was quickly followed by her hat-trick
goal which was scored after 14
minutes. As the first half drew to a close Hollie
hit the ball across the penalty area to find Katie Bell who flicked the
ball up and hit it on the volley and the shot was well saved by the
keeper. As the second half began, Tottenham
started under pressure which was dealt with by Charlotte who had tracked
back from midfield. Soon after, Tottenham where on the prowl again which
lead to a goal from a corner taken by Charlotte and scored by Laura on
24 minutes to make it 5-0. Katie, who seems to improve every match,
was substituted to allow Marva Kreel to weave her magic in midfield. Hollie then hit a ball over the top which
went to Bobbi who back-heeled the ball into the path of Laura who
slotted away the 6th goal of the match. It was also the
100th goal of the season that had been scored by the girls in
the league, having only conceded four. The combination of Bobbi and
Laura up front was a pleasure to watch and once again had produced a
marvellous outcome. Laura then hit a fabulous shot from the
edge of the box which curled into the top corner to score the 7th
goal of the match on 35 minutes and probably was her best of the day. Gerry then made some tactical
substitutions with Paige McHenry coming on for Laura and Shoshana Field
swapping with Bobbi. Both girls were soon in the thick of it and, with
Marva, started on the task of trying to carve a way through the Garston
defence. The match ended 7-0 and the comments from
Gerry the manager said it all “it was an immense performance from
every member of the squad” and it was difficult to single any one
player out
for greater praise than their team mate. So the difficult task was left
to the Chairman of the club Glenn Weaver to announce Laura as player of
the match with her six excellent goals. This was a very popular choice and
no doubt Laura has secured her pocket money for a number of weeks. Garston Purples are well organised and difficult opponents, with the game being played in the right spirit, but this was truly an outstanding performance by the girls and shows what Tottenham U10’s are truly capable of.
