The new Under-10 side
team entered the THLFC Under-11 competition and it was the firs time
they had played together as a team.
They
won the Plate competition, beating Enfield U11 on penalties in the semi
final and West Ham U11 on penalties in the final. In both the semi
final and the final they had held the teams to 0-0.
I think that these girls
have set themselves a high standard for this coming season. We still
have a lot to work on, but it has certainly boosted their confidence.
Needless to say I am
extremely proud of their performance.

Today was the first time that the new
Tottenham Ladies U10’s had played together as a whole team and based on
their performance they have certainly set themselves a high standard.
The team has three players who played at
U10 last season and their experience will stand them in good stead. The
remaining players have shown that they are eager to learn and all have a
good team spirit.
Jacqueline McLucas was back in her
familiar role as goalkeeper, with Molly Bassett and Megan Jones as her
defensive wall. Midfield was covered by Chloe Tunnicliffe, Ronnell
Humes, Alice Simmonds and Rebecca Mills. Up front was Ellis Lunn, who
didn’t waste time in opening her goal tally.
The girls put into practice all that they
had been learning in training, they worked together and dominated the
match throughout, although credit must be given to the Enfield Rangers
goalkeeper, who made some good saves.
Ellis’s six goals added to the four from
Chloe and one from Megan, playing in her League debut for Tottenham
Ladies, gave a total of 11. Enfield Rangers were unable to break
through the Tottenham Ladies defence and so we kept a clean sheet.
The player of the match was awarded to
Ronnell, but all the girls were praised for a good all round team
effort.

Garston played host to Spurs
U10 today in our second league game and the home side’s infamous sloped
pitch meant we had the advantage in the first half, with our goal at the
bottom of the slope. Chloe Tunicliffe generously handed her armband to
Megan Jones to start the game against her old team. The starting line
up consisted of Renee Lamy in goal, Rebecca (Becks) Lane, Megan and
Jacqueline McLucas in defence and Chloe, Ronnell Humes and Ellis Lunn in
midfield.
From the kick off, the Spurs
girls showed they meant business with some great playing from all the
team. After several shots on goal, a great cross from Chloe was
finished by Ronnell, making it 1-0.
Shortly after kicking off
again, the Spurs girls were back in possession and on 11 minutes,
another cross from Chloe into the box was put into the net by Ellis,
bringing the score to 2-0. The Garston girls fought back and bought the
score to 2-1 following a great run by one of their players. Just before
half time, Becks showed us what she was made of and aimed a great shot
on goal, which we all thought it had gone in, but unfortunately was
disallowed.
The second half saw Alice
Simmonds come on for Megan, and Chloe taking back her armband. It now
meant we were going uphill, and at first this looked like it would beat
us, but the girls dug deep and pulled it back with some great defending
by Alice and runs by Jacqueline, with ‘General’ Becks keeping them all
in order. Some great saves from Renee kept the Spurs girls in the
lead. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Ronnell increased the
margin to 3-1 by getting on the score sheet again. Time for
substitutions with Molly Bassett coming on for Chloe, followed shortly
by Rebecca (Bex) Mills coming on for Ellis, the girls continued to play
well until the final whistle, earning us a well deserved three points.
The girls played
fantastically well today, pulling together, passing well and showing
more energy than ever. It was great for all the parents to see them
coming together as a team. Well done girls, keep it up.
Player of the Match went to
Jacqueline for her great performance on the pitch today – you were
always there at the right time. Well done Jacqueline !
The girls were sponsored by
their Manager and Coach £5 per goal scored today for Children in Need,
and this was generously doubled by Ronnell’s parents giving a total
donation of £30 from Spurs U10s. Thank you everyone! We all left
Garston in high spirits, but with very cold feet !

With
temperatures not much above freezing, Spurs were playing host to Enfield
Town A. The Spurs girls went into this game full of confidence
following their win over Garston last week although knowing this could
be a difficult match. The teams lined up in the first half with Renee
Lamy in goal, Rebecca (Becks) Lane, Megan Jones and Jacqueline McLucas
in defence and Chloe Tunnicliffe, Ronnell Humes and Ellis Lunn in
midfield.
From the off the Spurs girls took possession with
Chloe whizzing down the left hand side and following a shot on goal,
which the keeper fumbled, it was left to Ellis to slot the ball into the
net with just seconds on the clock. A great start and from that point
we didn’t look back, with most of the possession in the opposition’s
half and several shots on goal, Spurs looked to dominate the game.
Enfield Town managed a good run with their no. 4 taking the ball up the
pitch and taking a shot, but it was well saved by Renee.
With
the ball back in our comfort zone, Megan aimed a shot on goal which was
well saved by the keeper. The first substitution was made half way
through the first half with Alice Simmonds coming on for Megan. Not
long after this Chloe took aim from outside the box and the ball bounced
off the far post and into the goal making it 2-0.
The
rest of the first half saw some good defending from the girls,
remembering what they’d been taught in training, and with Becks making a
run with the ball down the right hand side of the pitch, she saw an
opportunity and took a shot which again was saved by the keeper.
Following another good run from their no. 4, Renee again pulled it out
of the bag and made the save. Just before the half time whistle blew,
Molly Basset came on for Chloe.
Enfield Town kicked off the second half, and with no changes to our
team, saw some excellent passing and teamwork from the midfielders,
Ellis, Chloe and Ronnell all working together. After only two minutes,
Ronnell increased the score again, picking up a loose ball and
knocking it through the keepers legs into the net. The next goal wasn’t
too far away and came from Ellis passing the ball into Chloe who scored
her second goal of the game.
At the
other end, with Renee having to make another save to keep the score 4-0
it was then time for more substitutions with Rebecca Mills (Bex)
replacing Ellis on the pitch and Molly and Alice coming on for Chloe and
Megan. With just 10 more minutes until the final whistle, the girls
continued to work well together with some good passing from both Molly
and Bex and good defending from Alice putting pressure on the other team
right until the end. Another three points well deserved, well done
girls!
Player
of the Match went to Ronnell for her hard work and her endless energy
shown during the match.

The Spurs girls lined up against visitors
Hitchin Town Belles in their fourth league game of the season. A slight
change to the line-up today as captain Chloe Tunnicliffe was unable to
make the match today so the team started with Renee Lamy in goal;
Jacqueline McLucas, Alice Simmonds and Rebecca (Becks) Lane in defence
and Megan Jones, Ronnell Humes and Ellis Lunn in attack. Ellis started
the game as captain.
The Tottenham girls started slower than
normal today and they seemed to lack the usual level of energy.
However, it didn’t take long for the girls to settle down and on four
minutes, following a pass from Ellis, Becks took her opportunity and
scored her first much-deserved goal of the season by driving the ball
into the top of the net.
With the play mostly in the opposition’s
half, Hitchin’s no. 12 was the one to watch and after several attempts
by Hitchin to break through our defence, we saw her make a run, past our
defenders and slot the ball into the net and less than a minute later
they took the lead with their second goal of the game from the same
player.
The Spurs girls were now on the attack
and weren’t going to let Hitchin hold the lead for long. They’d learnt
their lesson with the last two goals and full of determination,
Jacqueline took the ball up the pitch and slotted the ball through into
Ronnell, who finished with a strike on goal, bringing the score level
once more. Ronnell was now on a roll, and three minutes later with her
second goal of the match.
The second half started with no changes,
apart from Jacqueline now taking Captaincy. The girls had listened to
wise words from both their Manager and Coach and we saw some improved
passing and great teamwork. After such great play, and a near goal
following a fantastic pass into the area from Megan, it didn’t take long
for Ellis to make a well timed pass into Ronnell who put the ball past
the keeper to complete her hat-trick.
Ten minutes into the second half, Molly
Bassett came on in midfield for Megan and showed us how much she’s
improving with some great play.
The teams were well matched and it could
have gone either way, but with the girls determined to get another three
points, they battled on. Alice was always ready in defence should the
Hitchin girls break through and although Renee didn’t get to see much of
the ball today, she made a great save when their formidable no.12 struck
again.
It was time for Rebecca (Bex) Mills to
make an appearance giving Ellis a well earned break and she showed us
how much she too has improved, making a great contribution to the
match. Further changes were made just before the final whistle, with
Megan and Ellis both making another appearance for Alice and Ronnell.
It was impossible to pick a player of the
match as all the Spurs girls worked together to give a great
performance, however the girls made a team decision and awarded the
Player of the Match to Ellis, although Molly and Becks also received
well deserved nominations. Well done girls !

London Youth FA U11 Cup -
Semi-final |
|
After beating Crystal
Palace Under 10s for a place in the semi-final, it was now time for the
girls to face an Under 11 team in this London Cup. Tottenham played
host to Long Lane U11 and the teams lined up in the first half with
Renee Lamy in goal, Rebecca (Becks) Lane, Alice Simmonds and Jacqueline
McLucas in defence and the now familiar threesome in midfield, Chloe
Tunnicliffe (c), Ronnell Humes and Ellis Lunn.
From the off the Spurs
girls were on the defence and work hard in defence they did. Some great
defending from all three girls, getting us out of trouble quite a few
times. Despite the girls using all their skills, Long Lane got their
first goal on 10 minutes. Not beaten the Spurs girls battled on, now
knowing that it was going to be a tough match.
It was an entertaining
first half, and following some good passing down the field from Ellis
and Ronnell, the ball was received by Chloe who took the ball into the
box which unfortunately went wide. Not giving up it wasn’t long until
this threesome again worked together to pass the ball into Chloe who
again took a shot which was this time saved by the keeper.
Action then came at the
other end of the field with Renee making a brave dive to rescue a shot.
After 20 minutes of determined play, it was time for a substitution and
Megan Jones came on for Alice. Before the half time whistle Long Lane
again added to their tally, making it 2-0.
The second half kicked off
following some great words of encouragement and praise from both Manager
and Coach during half time. Taking this onto the pitch with them the
girls continued to play their socks off, taking all the advice given on
board. Frustratingly for the girls, Spurs had many opportunities, but
the ball wouldn’t go in the net, until finally following a cross across
the box from Ronnell, Chloe finished it with a goal. The game was now
back within reach for the girls.
Following lots of shouts of
encouragement from the sidelines, the girls dug deep and they continued
to battle, with some great defending again from Becks, Jacqueline and
Megan and even Ellis on the odd occasion when she appeared at the other
end of the pitch. Our next chance for a goal came from a great corner
taken by Becks into the box which Chloe picked up, but it skimmed the
top of the net. Unlucky !
The rest of the match
continued, and despite the bribery used by the parents, the girls
couldn’t get the equaliser and the game finished 2-1 to Long Lane.
Despite the girls loss, the Coach, Manager and parents couldn’t have
been prouder. The girls played the best they’ve played so far and have
come so far since the start of the season. The whole team were
congratulated on their game and all the girls were awarded Player of
Match for their great performance. Bring on the league games in 2008 !
Merry Christmas to all
players and their families!

For our first post Christmas match, Spurs
were playing host to Enfield Town B for our fifth league match of the
season. The teams lined up in the first half with Renee Lamy in goal,
Rebecca (Becks) Lane, Alice Simmonds and Jacqueline McLucas in defence
and the midfield threesome, Chloe Tunnicliffe, Ronnell Humes and Ellis
Lunn completing the Tottenham Ladies line up.
The game started slowly with the Spurs
girls lacking their usual energy and enthusiasm (too much partying over
Christmas perhaps?) but both teams were making an effort to gain the
upper hand. After 10 minutes, an old injury started causing Jacqueline
some problems and Megan filled her position on the pitch.
The play continued with the ball in open
play and with their energy and passion returning we saw some good
attempts on goal from the Spurs girls. Renee was kept on her toes at
the other end but continued to keep a clean sheet. However, it was
Spurs, with their ever improving passing qualities, and energy from the
midfield trio, that were looking most likely to get the all important
first goal. And that’s exactly what happened when our first goal
finally came following a pass in from Ronnell to Ellis and onto a well
positioned Chloe who slotted the ball into the net on 15 minutes.
With the first goal in, it wasn’t long
before another chance arose and following a cross into the box from
Ellis, Ronnell kicked the ball between the keepers legs into the goal
making it 2-0. We then saw Bex Mills coming on for an injured Ronnell
and it wasn’t long before we saw Bex take a shot on goal which just
missed the net.
With play continuing mostly in the
opposition’s half, it wasn’t long until Ellis took a shot from the edge
of the box which disappointingly hit the far post. With the half-time
whistle about to blow, a cross in from Becks was finished with Ellis
finally getting her goal with a clean shot over the keeper’s head.
Feeling more confident a change in format
was called for in the second half with Ellis playing up front, Chloe,
Bex and Megan in midfield and the defensive pairing of Alice and Becks
taking their positions at the back.
Again the girls took their time warming
up and it took a while for the game to get moving again. The ball spent
most of the second half in open play. Apart from a few breaks up the
pitch from Enfield Town, resulting in some determined defending from the
Spurs side, and with endless Spurs corners, no further goals were scored
at either end. The final substitution came half way through the second
half firstly seeing Ronnell back on the pitch giving Alice a well earned
break, swiftly followed by the reappearance of Jacqueline coming on the
replace Megan.
The final whistle blew with the score
unchanged at 3-0. Well done girls, another good performance. With such
a good performance put in by all the girls, the decision on Player of
Match was handed to the girls to decide and following lots of discussion
it was a tied result between Chloe and Ronnell, with the overall
decision taken by their Manager and the trophy was awarded to Ronnell.
Outstanding Player of the Match was awarded to Bex for her determination
shown during the game.

Home Counties Girl's Football
League - Under-10 Division 1 |

On a
beautiful sunny morning the Spurs girls travelled up the road to play
much improved Enfield Rangers. The teams lined up with Rebecca (Becks)
Lane, Megan Jones and Alice Simmonds in defence with Chloe Tunnifcliffe
(c), Ronnell Humes and Ellis Lunn taking their now familiar positions in
midfield and Renee Lamy in goal. With Manager Vicky away sick, the girls
had to make her proud in her absence.
Fairly
confident from previous wins against this team, from the whistle
Tottenham Ladies took possession but it soon became clear that the
Enfield girls weren’t going to give in easily. After several Spurs
corners and the score remaining 0-0, Enfield’s no. 8 made a great run up
the pitch, through our defenders and with an up-close shot on goal,
Renee held her nerve and pushed the ball away, but not before the
Enfield supporters thought they had their first goal of the season in
the net. Well done Renee! Enfield Rangers appeared to have the upper
hand, with the ball making several appearances in our half, but we saw
some great defending by Alice saving us from another attempt on goal.
At the half time whistle, the score remained 0-0.
The
second half started with the Enfield Rangers side again looking strong
and Renee was again called upon to make a brave save. With the Spurs
girls feeling frustrated at not being able to get the ball past the
Enfield defence, it was clear we needed our first goal to give us that
extra confidence, and half way through the second half it was Ronnell
making a solo run down the wing and kicking the ball past the keeper
into the net that gave the girls the lead they needed.
Spurs had
their confidence back and the improvement in their game was immediate.
We saw some great defending and passing up the field from Megan and
Becks at the back, helping all three midfielders make their attack on
goal, and attack they did. Even the Enfield Rangers defence couldn’t
stop them and shot after shot was made on the goal and all credit to the
Enfield goalie for some great saves. Ellis was so determined to get her
first goal of the game, she even found herself laying in the goal mouth
at one point! Her chance finally came in the next few minutes taking
the ball past the keeper and slotting it in the net making it 2-0.
The girls
battled on and we thought it was goal number three when following a
great pass from Becks, Chloe took a shot which sliced past the wrong
side of the goal post.
Time for
a substitution and Rebecca Mills got her chance, replacing Chloe on the
pitch. With full-time approaching, the last piece of action saw a
scramble in the goal mouth with all our midfielders, Enfield defenders
and the keeper desperately trying to get the ball. It could have been
anyone’s goal, but Ellis managed to get her foot on the ball and lift it
over the keeper’s head into the net making the score 3-0.
Despite
the comments from Team Enfield, it was a WELL DESERVED WIN!! Player of
the Match went to Renee, as the last defender on the pitch it can be the
most difficult job and Renee had no hesitation in coming out and making
some great saves (although Phil Tunnicliffe thought it was because she
was well warmed up before the match!).
