Tottenham Hotspur Ladies U10 2
Evergreen U10 0
Friendly
With no league match scheduled for this week, Spurs Ladies were playing hosts to Evergreen this week for a friendly match.  After last week’s postponed match, the girls were eager to get on the pitch, but with a few girls absent this week leaving no subs, the line up looked a little different with Renee Lamy in goal, Jacqueline McLucas, Megan Jones and Rebecca Lane (Becks) in defence and Chloe Tunnifcliffe (c) and Ellis Lunn joined in midfield by Rebecca Mills (Bex).

Not knowing what to expect from the visiting team, the girls were keen to take control from the off and it wasn’t long before Ellis managed to break free and take the ball up the centre of the pitch which resulted in a wide shot.  A good start but both teams appeared to be fairly evenly matched and it was clear neither teams were going to have an easy ride.  The next ten minutes were fairly quiet with the ball in open play until following a Spurs corner, Chloe received the ball and took a shot which hit the top bar.  Unlucky.

We saw some great football from all the team, and although either team could have got the first goal, it was our defence, Jacqueline, Becks and Megan who consistently ensured the ball was passed back up the pitch to the defenders although this meant Renee didn’t get to see the ball very often !

On the half time whistle, the score remained 0-0.

The second half started much the same as the first, with the Spurs girls retaining the upper hand.  Despite several attempts the ball didn’t seem to want to go in the goal, but the girls’ patience paid off and following a Megan corner kick, played in short to Bex, the ball found itself again at Megan’s feet.  Positioned well in front of the goal she took a shot and the ball flew past the keeper into the goal scoring her first well deserved goal of the season.

With the score now at 1-0, the girls had to work hard to keep their lead and they continued to play well as a team.  Our next chance came 10 minutes later when following a cross from Ellis, Chloe slotted the ball into the net, making it 2-0.

With the other team unable to get near the goal, Renee found herself a spectator from the goal only seeing the ball a couple of times (although again credit to Phil for the great warming up!).  The final whistle blew with the score remaining 2-0.

Despite team mates missing today, the girls did themselves proud.  Player of the Match was a awarded jointly this week to Bex and Megan for their outstanding contribution to the match (no fighting over that trophy girls!).  The girls were expertly warmed up and down by our resident personal trainer, Karina Lamy and her pink wellies. Thanks also go to Reece Lamy for stepping in as the photographer.

Spurs Under10s were this week playing host to top of the league team QPR.  With QPR already having scored 60 goals in their first seven games and with not one goal against them, Spurs knew it’d be tough but the girls felt they were ready to face them.  Despite the Spurs girls putting up a brave fight, QPR came out on top once again with a 7-0 win.

The first half started well and although the ball was mostly in QPR’s possession, the Spurs girls battled, putting all their defence training into action.  With Renee Lamy making some great saves and our defence looking strong, it was a clean score sheet until on 20 minutes in the first half QPR found a gap and added to their league tally making the score 1-0.

At half time the score remained unchanged and it looked as if we could catch up but in the second half, QPR upped their game and within the next five minutes had scored another two goals.  The Spurs girls kept their heads up and battled on and with substitutions taking place during the second half, all the girls got a chance to play their socks off.

After the match, the girls were praised for their efforts today.  Renee was even shaken by the hand of the QPR coach who told her she a ‘class’ goalie.  Megan Jones was awarded Player of the Match for her energy and enthusiasm and keeping a clear head at all times in defence.

Home Counties Girl's Football League  - Under-10 Division 1

On a beautiful sunny morning, team Spurs travelled up to Watford for a first time meeting of the two teams this season.  Following a disappointing result last week, the Spurs girls were keen to get back to their winning ways.  They started with their now familiar line up of Renee Lamy in goal, Jacqueline McLucas, Rebecca Lane (Laney) and Megan Jones in defence and midfield trio Chloe Tunnicliffe (c), Ronnell Humes and Ellis Lunn.

Watford kicked off the first half only to immediately lose possession to the visitors.  From the start, the girls showed some great controlled passing culminating in Spurs taking the lead with a goal involving all three midfielders, finished off by Chloe who slotted the ball into net with only minutes on the clock.

The second half continued with Spurs making most of the play, seeing accurate passing involving all the team, and with our defence looking stronger than ever, Renee was left with little to do.  Needing to rest an injury, Ellis came off after 10 minutes, replaced on the pitch by an ever more confident Alice Simmonds.

Just before half time, another substitution, but with Rebecca Mills (Bex) wrestling with her trackie bottoms, Ellis went back on to replace Ronnell, who also needed to rest an injury.  With less than a minute back on the pitch, Ellis received the ball following a short pass from Alice and with the ball at her feet, took it wide of the goal and with a right footed shot she scored her first of the day.

With the score 0-2, the second half saw Bex and Molly Bassett in the line up, supporting their captain in midfield.  Both girls immediately got stuck in and we saw some great play and determination from them both.  On ten minutes, a rested Ronnell came back on giving Bex a well-earned break.

Our next goal was soon to follow and with an assist from Molly, Chloe took the ball the short distance to the goal, round a Watford defender (just the one Phil !) and past the keeper into the net, making the score 0-3.

It was clear that the girls were using the advice given during their training session this week as Renee continued to have a quiet game with Jacqueline, Megan and Laney all working well together keeping the ball upfield.  More changes followed with a rest for Megan, who had displayed some good controlled passing and was commended on her great ability to stay calm on the pitch.  Alice replaced Megan in midfield, shortly followed by Bex and Ellis going back on the pitch for Jacqueline and Ronnell.

With the whistle not far away, there was still time for another goal and following a throw on by Ellis, the ball was picked up by Chloe who completed her hat-trick of the game with goal number three, making the score 0-4.

A well deserved Player of the Match was awarded to hat-trick hero Chloe, who not only scored three goals but ran the game.  Molly Bassett was awarded Outstanding Player of the Match for her determination and contribution to the game.

Garston Ladies U10 0
Home Counties Girl's Football League  - Under-10 Division 1
Today Spurs played host to bottom of the league team Garston and after a postponed game last week, the girls were raring to go.  The line up started with Renee Lamy in goal, the usual trio in defence, Megan Jones, Jacqueline McLucas and Rebecca Lane (Laney), with Chloe Tunnicliffe and Ronnell Humes joined in midfield by Rebecca Mills (Bex).

From the whistle the Spurs girls took the ball straight up to the goal and within seconds Bex took a shot which looked like it could result in her first goal of the season, but frustratingly it hit the far post.  The game continued apace with Spurs definitely controlling the game and before long, following a pass in from Chloe, Ronnell received the ball, turned and put the ball into the net, making the score 1-0.

After ten minutes of chomping at the bit, Ellis Lunn came on for Bex.  The game continued with Garston having to defend time and time again, and it wasn’t until just before half time that Ronnell crossed the ball into a well-position Chloe who volleyed the ball into the net, making it 2-0.

The second half started and continued in much the same way, with Megan Jacqueline and Laney ensuring the ball never got very far down the pitch, consistently feeding it back to the midfielders.  The girls played some lovely football and it paid off after five minutes when following a short corner taken by Megan, she received the ball back and delivered a great curved ball into Ellis who volleyed the ball past the keeper into the net.  With the score now at 3-0, it was time for Alice Simmonds to make an appearance, replacing Ronnell on the field.

With Garston defending deeply with all their players in the goal area, Renee was a lonely figure at the opposite end, vocally supporting her team.  The next substitution saw Megan taking a well-earned break, replaced by Bex, this time putting her defending skills to work.  With time running out, the ball made a rare appearance in the Spurs half, and Ellis determined to take it back, took the ball up the pitch, and with defenders on her tail, crossed the ball to a waiting Chloe who drilled the ball into the goal, bringing the score to 4-0.

The last substitution of the day saw captain Chloe coming off and Ronnell back on.  The final whistle blew with the score at 4-0

With Manager and Coach unable to make a decision, it was left to the girls to announce double act Ellis and Chloe joint Players of the Match.  Well done girls.

Home Counties Girl's Football League  - Under-10 Cup - quarter final

Today Spurs played host to Watford Ladies for a semi-final place in the League Cup.  The line up started with Renee Lamy in goal, the usual three in defence, Megan Jones, Jacqueline McLucas and Rebecca Lane (Laney), with Chloe Tunnicliffe and Ronnell Humes and Ellis Lunn in midfield.

With strong winds it was going to be a difficult match and with Spurs playing the first half against the wind, the girls knew they’d have to work hard to keep the ball.  It took both teams a while to get used to the wind and the ball wasn’t always going in the direction it was aimed in.

Our first chance came after five minutes when Ronnell took a shot which was deflected by the keeper out to a waiting Chloe who, from outside the box, took a shot which flew over the keeper’s head into the goal.  Lovely goal Chloe !

With the ball going from one end to the other and both teams determined to take control, our next goal came from Ellis taking the ball down the wing and crossing at the last minute into Chloe, at the far past, who popped it into the corner of the net, making the score 2-0.  A great set piece girls.

With Watford regularly threatening our goal, we saw some confident defending from all three defenders ensuring we kept a clean sheet.  Time for a substitution with Megan getting a well-earned rest and Alice Simmonds, who is looking more confident on the pitch with every game, taking her place in defence.  Just before the half time whistle, we saw Renee make a great dive across the goal to stop a Watford player scoring in the bottom corner.

The second half line up remained unchanged and the game continued in much the same way.  Although Spurs now had the advantage with the wind, this sometimes brought its own problems with the ball again not always finishing where intended.

During the second half we saw substitutions with Ellis coming off for Rebecca Mills, another player who is improving with every game, and Megan coming back on to replace Ronnell.  Watford definitely upped their game in the second half and were determined to try and catch the Spurs girls up, but all credit goes to our defenders who again stopped Watford from scoring getting on the score sheet.

The last substitution saw Ellis returning to the pitch, giving goal-scorer Chloe a rest.  Despite several last minute Spurs corners and several scrambles in goal which looked as if we could score again, the score remained unchanged at 2-0 with Spurs going through to the semi-finals.

Player of the Match was awarded to Laney who worked hard today catching those stray balls.  She can always be relied on at the back and is sometimes taken for granted – not today Laney, well done!  The girls played a good match despite the windy weather and the dust storm that surrounded the girls half way through the second half !

Home Counties Girl's Football League  - Under-10 Division 1
Today the Spurs Ladies Under-10s travelled up the A1(M) to Hitchin and with the weather conditions very similar to last weeks game, the girls again knew it was going to be hard work.  With Renee Lamy injured and Alice Simmonds ill, the line up this week saw Jacqueline McLucas returning to her old position of goalie, Megan Jones, Rebecca Lane (Laney) in defence, Ronnell Humes dropping back into a holding position and Ellis Lunn and Chloe Tunnicliffe joined in midfield by Rebecca Mills (Bex).

The game kicked off with the usual battle for the ball, although the wind appeared to win the majority of the possession !  The Spurs girls seemed to take their time getting into their stride and it was the Belles that got the first shot on goal, forcing Spurs to defend early on, although this didn’t give Jacqueline any trouble as it was off target.  This was enough to wake the Spurs girls up and it didn’t take them long to get the ball back up the other end for their turn for an attempt on goal, which was saved by the goalie.

Half way through the first half, Spurs were awarded a free kick which Megan took and it was looking as if it would go straight into the goal but it hit the near post.  However with the goalie was unable to get her hands on the ball and there followed a scramble in the goal area.  The ball was kicked out, but stopped by Megan, who hadn’t left her spot at 15 yards out.  She took another shot and this time the ball flew over everyone’s heads and fell cleanly into the goal.  Well done Megan, great goal !

Time for a substitution, Bex came off for a rest and Molly Bassett took up her position on the field.  Jacqueline looked comfortable back in her goalie position and continued to keep a clean score sheet.

With the ball remaining in open play and both teams eager to take control, Hitchin were determined to make a game of it and didn’t allow the Spurs girls too much time on the ball.  However, the Spurs girls’ hard work paid off and it wasn’t long until Spurs made a break.  Ellis took the ball down the wing, flicked it through to Molly who passed it expertly into a waiting Ronnell who wasted no time in putting it into the net.  Great team work girls.

The half time whistle blew with the score remaining at 0-2.  During half time while Gerry was giving the girls some words of encouragement and advice, Ellis’ tooth fell out!  No, it hadn’t been loosened by an over enthusiastic Hitchin player, probably too many half time Haribos !!

The second half kicked off with a change in goal.  Laney pulled on the goalie gloves and took her position in goal giving Jacqueline a chance to get back on the pitch.  Bex was also back on the pitch, with Molly taking a breather.

The second half continued much like the first with both teams struggling to hang onto the ball.  Both teams had some good shots on goal and Laney had to stretch herself in all directions to keep the ball out of the net.

Halfway through the second half, Bex and Molly again swapped over, with Molly back in the action.  With the winds getting stronger, there was nearly a pitch invasion with the parents being blown on to the pitch !  The game finished with several attempts on goal from Spurs, but whether the weather was to blame or simply bad luck, the ball would not go in the net.

A tiring game for both teams but with two goals in the bag in the first half, Spurs came away with the three points.  Jacqueline was awarded Player of the Match, but all the girls were praised for a good all round team effort, especially those that took up unfamiliar positions.  Hitchin as always were good sporting opponents as well as great hosts.

QPR U10 6
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies U10 1
Home Counties Girl's Football League  - Under-10 Division 1
Team Spurs today travelled to west London for their last league match with QPR U10.  With Renee Lamy still injured, the line up this week saw Rebecca Lane (Laney) pulling on the goalie gloves, Megan Jones, Alice Simmonds and Jacqueline McLucas in defence, Ronnell Humes again dropping back into a holding position and Ellis Lunn and Chloe Tunnicliffe in midfield.

From previous experience, the Spurs girls knew it was going to be a tough one and with QPR showing their usual strength and determination from the off, the Spurs girls threw themselves into the game.

It was time for celebration after five minutes when Chloe found Ronnell in the box who wasted no time in taking a shot and putting the QPR goalie to the test, resulting in Spurs scoring the first goal of the day.  Trying to keep their excitement under wraps, the Spurs girls battled on, but it wasn’t long until QPR pulled it back and made the score even at 1-1.

After ten minutes, Alice took a break for Rebecca Mills to replace her on the pitch.  The remainder of the first half passed with no further goals from either team, although Laney worked hard in goal to keep the score even.

The second half started with no changes to the line up.  Unfortunately it turned out to be a repeat of the last time Spurs met QPR as the host team upped their game and outclassed Spurs taking and using every opportunity given to them.  QPR went on to score a further three goals, most of which were totally unstoppable !

With changes half way through this half, seeing Laney back on the pitch and Jacqueline in goal, and Bex and Alice swapping again, a further two goals followed from QPR, making the final score 6-1.

The girls took heart from the fact that they are the only team to score against QPR in both the League and Chairman’s Cup.  Player of the Match was awarded to goal-scorer Ronnell. The girls put in a great performance, which unfortunately was again not enough to beat this team which certainly know how to play football.

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter - enjoy the break !

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies U10 3
Enfield Town U10 A 1
Home Counties Girl's Football League  - Under-10 Division 1
Today, Tottenham Ladies' Under-10s travelled the short distance to play today’s hosts, Enfield Town A.  After a break last weekend for Easter, the girls were keen to get their boots back on.  With Renee Lamy back from injury, she took back the goalie gloves, and with Megan Jones, Jacqueline McLucas and Rebecca Lane (Laney) in defence, Chloe Tunnicliffe (c), Ronnell Humes and Ellis (‘in the box’) Lunn completed the line-up in midfield.

The game kicked off with Spurs immediately taking the majority of the possession resulting in two shots on goal within the first three minutes, neither of which sadly went in.  The Spurs girls continued to dominate the game and Renee finally saw the ball half way through the first half.  The ball remained mainly in the opposition’s half for most of the first half forcing the Enfield girls to defend deeply.  The Enfield goalie was also kept on her toes with a further eight shots on goal from the Spurs girls, all of which were saved.  Frustratingly, at half time the score remained at 0-0.

The second half saw no changes to the team, apart from Ellis moving up into an upfront position.  The Spurs girls seemed to take their time getting back into their stride but Enfield came back fighting determined not to let Spurs take control again.  However, after five minutes, following a hand-ball, Spurs were awarded a penalty, which was coolly taken by their captain.  Chloe put the ball easily into the bottom corner.

Time for a substitution and Megan Jones came off for Alice Simmonds to replace her in defence.  With Spurs now taking the lead, Enfield upped the pressure and it wasn’t long until they broke through the defence and equalised the score.

It was anybody’s game at this point as the teams were looking equal.  However, Spurs had by now woken up and it was Laney who took the ball down the pitch and found Ellis, out on the wing, who fired the ball towards the goal and after six previous attempts, finally scored in the bottom corner, making the score 1-2.

With Enfield verbally noting that time was running out, they weren’t about to give up and the battle continued.  Renee and the Spurs defence were all kept on their toes, but worked well together to ensure the score remained in our favour.

Spurs hadn’t finished and with one more goal to come saw Ellis making some good twists and turns to keep possession.  She then crossed it to Chloe, who had to chase the ball to keep it in play and amazingly, from what looked an impossible angle, took a shot and scored the final goal of the day.

The last five minutes saw Chloe taking a break and Rebecca Mills (Bex) getting a chance to make her contribution to the game.

With the final score at 1-3, the Spurs girls came away with the all important three points.  With the Manager unable to make a decision, the girls put it to the vote and Ellis was awarded Player of the Match.

19.04.2008
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies U10 3
Denham United U10 0
Home Counties Girl's Football League  - Under-10 Division 1

Today Tottenham Ladies Under-10s played host to Denham United, in what was to be a very important match between the two teams.  The teams lined up with Renee Lamy in goal, Jacqueline McLucas, Megan Jones and Rebecca Lane (Laney) in defence and Chloe Tunnicliffe (c), Ronnell Humes and Ellis Lunn in midfield, backed up by a full choice of subs.

Following our loss to Enfield Rangers last week, the girls’ confidence had been shaken, but once the whistle blew there was no time to dwell on that, as from the off, it was a tough battle for possession with both teams eager to win this game.

The ball went from one end of the pitch to the other with both teams looking strong, but following a well aimed cross in from Laney, Chloe received the ball right in front of the goal and with only one defender to stop her, she turned and made sure it went straight into the net, giving Spurs their much needed first goal to push them on.

After a great display in defence, Megan took a rest, giving Alice her chance to make a contribution, which she certainly did.  The girls battled on and showed how much they have improved and gelled together as a team since the beginning of the season and continued to stay in the lead.

The second half started with Chloe sportingly handing the captaincy armband to Ellis.  Megan was also back in defence.

With the battle immediately re-commencing and Denham determined to score an equaliser, Spurs knew they needed another goal to keep them in the clear and within a few minutes it was a cross into the box from Chloe which although was handled by the goalie, it was fumbled and despite both Ellis and Ronnell trying to get their foot to it, the ball didn’t need any help and rolled itself into the goal, giving Spurs a 2-0 lead.

With the Denham goalie obsessively shouting for No. 25 (Chloe) to be marked, the game continued apace.  Megan again came off for a rest giving Molly a chance to exercise her leg for the first time since her injury.  Our next goal wasn’t far away and Ellis picked up a pass from Chloe into the centre of the pitch and she took the ball the rest of the way, with two defenders on her heels and put the ball into the net.

With Spurs now leading 3-0, it was time to give the midfielders a rest and Ronnell, Chloe and Ellis all came off and Megan, Alice Simmonds and last week’s Player of the Match, Rebecca Mills (Bex), taking their place.  Both Alice and Bex stepped up to the mark in unfamiliar midfield positions and played their part in ensuring the score remained the same.  With Denham being awarded a late penalty, it looked as if they might score a goal but we needn’t have worried as Renee made a fantastic dive and saved the goal like a pro making it look easy !

On the final whistle, the score remained at 3-0.  The girls played an exciting game and it was great to see them back to their winning ways.  Player of the Match was awarded to Renee for her great penalty save.  (Phil Tunnicliffe would like to add that he taught Renee everything she knows!!)

With only two more matches to play this season, let’s hope for a successful end to the season.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies U10 3
Home Counties Girl's Football League  - Under-10 Division 1
Tottenham Ladies travelled the short distance to play today’s hosts Enfield Town B on what was looking to be the warmest day of the year so far.  With a full team to choose from, the familiar seven of Renee Lamy, Megan Jones, Jacqueline McLucas, Rebecca Lane (Laney), Ellis Lunn, Ronnell Humes and Chloe Tunnicliffe kicked off on the pitch, with Alice Simmonds, Rebecca Mills (Bex) and Molly Bassett awaiting their turn on the side-lines.

It was clear from the off that Spurs had the upper hand, although at times it looked as if the hot weather was slowing them down.  With Ellis taking the first shot of the day after a few minutes, swiftly followed by Chloe, both of which were saved, it was Ronnell who finally fired the ball into the net, making the score 0-1 with only minutes on the clock.

Shortly after Ellis came off the pitch replaced by Alice Simmonds, who nearly got her first goal of the season with a couple of shots on goal, with one hitting the top bar.  Our next goal however came following a corner taken by Laney into the box which found both Alice and Ronnell, but again it was Ronnell who put the ball safely into the net.

With the weather taking its toll on the girls, there were regular substitutions throughout the game, giving all the girls both a part in the game as well as a well earned rest.  It was great to see how far all the girls have come this season, especially Bex and Molly who both played well in defence and Alice who looked strong in midfield.

The score remained 0-2 at half time.  Renee was mainly a spectator in the game, having only seen the ball a couple of times so far and was even heard to order an ice cold drink !

The second half kicked off, and again the girls were rolled on and off throughout the half.  Sure there was at least another goal to come, it was a cross in from Ronnell from the wing which Chloe picked up and scored the third goal of the match.

The match finished with the score at 0-3 earning the Tottenham girls a valuable three points.  Laney was awarded Player of the Match after playing a great game, even getting a chance to play up-front.
