The Spurs Ladies u10 Blues kicked off the season with an action packed derby against the Spurs Ladies u10 Whites.

The Whites had the better chances of the first half, hitting the post on at least two occasions.  Lillian Irvine pulled off a number of great saves in her new role as goalkeeper with Sydney Fairs and Chloe O’Reilly marshalling the back line.

The Blues soon settled in and began to make chances at the other end with Stephanie Kypri, Shania Mogridge and Tayla Jackson making some cutting runs through the centre of the park.

The second half continued in the same vain with Amelia Shiner coming on and making a instant impact excelling in defence.  Charlotte Cummings, Lois Pennington, Isabel Phillips and Parris Williams all done their bit in midfield to secure a clean sheet and a well earned draw.

Coach Mark Fairs and Manager Matthew Chapman were delighted with the way the girls battled and played as a team throughout the 50 minutes and was proud of every single one of them.

The Spurs Ladies Under-10 Blues travelled up the M25 to St Albans for their first away match of the season against Harvesters FC.

The girls fought hard from the starting whistle.  Tayla Jackson was outstanding on the right of midfield making great runs all over the pitch, working well with Stephanie Kypri and Shania Modridge who were working hard upfront and in the middle of the field. Amelia Shiner and Sydney Fairs kept things tight at the back and for the second match in a row Lillian Irvine excelled in goal.

Harvesters put on the pressure all half and the Blues finally conceded their first goal but all credit to the girls they kept their heads up and continued to fight for every ball leading to some good chances to level.

The second half began with some changes to the line up Charlotte Cummings begun to terrorize the Harvesters midfield along with Parris Williams and Lois Pennington who made some promising runs towards the home defence. Isobel Phillips and Chloe O’Reilly took over at the back blocking some threatening balls reaching the back of our net. Halfway through the half Harvesters went on a soaring run and finished up making the score 2-0.

Again the Blues never gave up and finally got rewarded with a penalty at the other end. Stephanie Kypri stepped up to the challenge narrowly missing the top of the net.

Spurs had the most of the chances towards the end of the match, but Harvesters remained solid at the back leading to the Blues first defeat of the season. The final score 2-0 to Harvesters FC.

Although the girls lost they again played as a team and gave it their all and everyone who watches these girls can see that this is a very good team in the making.

The THLFC under-10 Blues welcomed a stylish Enfield Town side at Fred Knights for their second home game of the season in the Chairman's Cup.

The Blues knew it was going to be a tough game, because Enfield had won their opening two games, scoring four times in each match and conceding none.

From the opening whistle Enfield started to take control of the game and put the Blues under pressure.  It wasn’t long before Enfield scored and then quickly added another.  The Blues were now suddenly 0-2 down.  This seemed to kick start the girls and the Blues were now playing more like a team.

Once again the Blues goalkeeper Lillian Irvine made some good saves, while defenders Chloe O'Reilly and Amelia Shiner were kept busy by making important tackles.  With around five minutes to go before half time came the moment of the match.  The Blues captain Stephanie Kypri ran onto a through ball on the edge of the box and chipped the ball over the Enfield goalkeeper to make the score 1-2.  Definitely a contender for goal of the season.

Straight after the goal the girls kept up the pressure and could have easily snatched another goal, but the half time whistle blew and the girls deserved their break.

The second half kicked off and straight away Enfield started the second half as they started the first, scoring an early goal.  The Enfield Town girls appear much bigger and stronger than the Blues and have benefited from playing together for a year, which began to show as they applied more pressure.  Lois Pennington, Charlotte Cummings and Isabel Phillips did well in cutting out a lot of passes from the Enfield midfield.

Shania Mogridge, Paris Williams and Tayla Jackson also worked hard in going forward and defending, but it wasn’t enough as Enfield kept up the pressure and went on to add another four.

The u10 Blues should be proud of the way they never gave up and tried there best.

It was the first league game of the season for the THFC girls under-10 Blues and they were away to Enfield Rangers.

It was a cold and windy morning and the girls were set to play on a not so level playing field.  It didn’t start off very well for the Blues when Lillian Irvine was injured whilst warming up.  Throwing herself at one of our players during practice shots she showed us once again her true grit and determination and highlighted her early contention for MVP this season.

From the opening whistle the Blues took control and missed a few early chances, with Stephanie Kypri and Shania Mogridge coming closest.  Unfortunately, half way through the first half it was Rangers that took the lead with a goal tapped in from a corner that was very hard to defend against.  With our very own Woodgate and King combination Chloe and Amelia were tremendous in keeping the Rangers at bay for most of the first half.  Sadly, a shot that was deflected by one of the Rangers girls flew past Lillian Irvine to put the Rangers 2-0 up.

As the second half commenced Parris Williams replaced Lillian as the new goalkeeper.  Lillian had played out of her skin but felt she couldn’t continue due to the warm up incident.  Parris stepped up to the plate and was tested early on but was unlucky to stop another deflection putting Rangers 3-0 up.  With the three forwards Shania, Tayla Jackson and Stephanie making some dangerous runs into the heart of the Rangers half they were unlucky not to convert any of the chances they had.  After Shania had bravely taken a ball to the chest, stopping their goalkeeper's kick, Charlotte Cummings came on and threaded a few passes into the Rangers half splitting there defence into two. Stephanie tried to get onto a couple of the passes but was muscled off the ball on a few occasions thus showing us how strong the Rangers defence was.

With Tayla shooting up and down the wings most of the game the Blues could not find the finishing touches for a goal. Everyone pushed forward towards the end of the game leaving us a little exposed at the back.  Rangers girls took full advantage of the situation making it 4-0.

Lois Pennington and Isobel Phillips came on towards the end of the second half. They were tremendous in helping Chloe and Amelia defend some of those whipping “Bentley” corners that came in at such speed.

In the last two minutes of the game the girls lost the ball in their own half and a lone Rangers player picked it up deep in our half.  Making a blistering run towards goal and unleashing a thunderous right footed shot all we could do was watch it fly into the Blues' goal making it 5-0.

In summary the girls played very well against a good team, with a few more games under their belt and super Sydney back its just a matter of time until we get that first win.

The thlfc u10 Blues faced Hampstead at Fred Knights today hoping for their first win of the season.

Unfortunately, the Blues were without goalkeeper Lillian Irvine due to illness, so defender Chloe O'Reilly stepped up to the challenge and considering she hasn’t played in this position before did very well.

The Blues started the match brightly with Stephanie Kypri and Tayla Jackson making some good little runs up the flanks. Lois Pennington also made some lightening quick runs at the Hampstead defence, but the away team kept up their guard and managed to clear.

Amelia Shiner and Sydney Fairs looked strong at the back and for the first quarter of the game the match was evenly poised.  Hampstead finally infiltrated our defence and in a goal mouth scramble managed to score their first of the morning.  The girls continued to push for the equalizer with Shania Mogridge and Charlotte Cummings battling for every ball in the middle of the field.

Towards the end of the first half the girls were punished for switching off conceding two more goals, so the half finished 3-0 to Hampstead.

Some changes were made at the restart with Parris Williams and Isabel Phillips coming on and again the two teams were back on an equal par, especially with some superb play by Parris Williams, who had her best match of the season so far.

Although the girls were trailing by three goals everyone of them played as if the scores were level and even after conceding their fourth, they continued to battle and some great link up play between Steph and Parris almost ended in which would have been a well deserved goal.  Hampstead were a very strong and organised team and in the end deserved their win.

Although the Blues racked up another loss, there is not another team in the league that can match them for spirit and determination and altogether team work.  This is a team of very talented little girls and it is only a matter of time before their fortunes change.  Regardless of recent results, I for one am delighted and very proud to be associated with this great team.  Roll on next week.

The THLFC Under-10 Blues made the short trip up to The Walker Cricket ground to play Enfield Town for the second time this season.

The Blues took a little time to settle into the game, although right from the off Isabel Phillips stole the show in her new position in defence.  Lillian Irvine was again superb in goal, but unfortunately Enfield got two early goals which put us under pressure for the rest of the half.

Tayla Jackson’s consistency up and down the left flank showed again and Stephanie Kypri run her heart out on the other side of the pitch with Parris Williams pestering the Enfield defence in her lone role upfront.  Some changes were made with Chloe O’Reilly coming on in her usual role in defence, Charlotte Cummings who shone throughout in midfield and midfield dynamo Shania Mogridge taking over as striker.  The Spurs Under-10s pushed their opponents all the way to the half time whistle with their best performance so far.

The half finished with the Blues trailing 2-0.

We started the same way as we started the first with some sloppy defending which led to Enfield taking advantage and doubling their score within 10 minutes.  The Blues started to fight back with Amelia Shiner relishing her role in the centre of the field making some decisive passes up the pitch.  Spurs finally got a breakthrough when Sydney Fairs, who had been moved up field from her usual role in defence, made a lovely pass through to Shania, who ran at the Enfield defence and blasted the ball into the back of the net for her thoroughly deserved first goal of the season.

Enfield continued the pressure and managed to grab another three goals. The final score finished 7-1 to the home side.

Isabel Phillips was rightly named player of the match.

This is a very young team and although the results are not going our way at the moment, the girls are improving match by match and every one of them are giving it their all, week after week.

The thlfc u10 Blues were at a freezing cold and wet Fred Knights today to take on Luton Town.

The Blues started brightly and were rewarded within the first four minutes with a goal from our own little midfield supremo Shania Mogridge.  Sensing that this could be their day, the girls plied on the pressure with Tayla Jackson and Sydney Fairs running up and down the field putting passes into captain Stephanie Kypri, who didn’t take long to net her first of the morning making it 2-0.

Luton battled, but the Blues had found what they had been lacking in recent weeks.  Isabel Phillips and Chloe O’Reilly stood strong in defence, while the midfield and strike force made life really hard for the opposing team.

Coach Mark Fairs made some changes with Charlotte Cummings and Paris Williams coming on and putting their mark on the game straight away.  Shania got her second, when she went on yet another soaring run, twisting and turning the Luton defence.  The half finished 3-0 to the Tottenham Blues.

Not long into the second half Luton managed to pull a goal back from a corner.  This didn’t faze the Spurs u10s who took it in their stride and within five minutes Steph scored her second goal, when she went on a run of her own through the centre of the park, chipping the ball over the Luton goalie. Our fourth goal gave Steph a well deserved hat trick.

Not to be outdone Shania battled for every loose ball and it finally paid off when after a goal mouth scramble she managed to slip the ball into the back of the Luton net.  Luton could have had a second, if not for a superb save from ever improving goalie Lillian Irvine, who up until then had not really been troubled.  The match finished 6-1.

Not only did the girls get their first win of the season, but they won it in style, with everyone of the team putting in an enormous amount of effort.  Although Coach Mark couldn’t fault any of the girls, he awarded Steph with player of the match.

Roll on next week.

The Spurs Ladies u10 Blues braved another cold and rainy day at Fred Knights for their match against Denham this morning.

The match was equally balanced in the first ten minutes with chances for both teams.  Isabel Phillips and Amelia Shiner stood strong in defence and cleared any dangers that came their way.

Denham took the lead after a corner, when, unfortunately, goalie Lillian Irvine, who once again impressed throughout, was on the wrong end of a very wet and slippery ball.  Spurs fought back and should have been at least three goals to the good with some superb play between Shania Mogridge, Tayla Jackson and Stephanie Kypri ripping apart the Denham defence and Lois Pennington going on a tearing run forcing a superb save from the opposing keeper, but sadly it looked like it wasn’t going to be our day.

The second half started the same way with Paris Williams, Sydney Fairs and Charlotte Cummings along with Chloe O’Reilly all excelling in their positions, then against the run of play Denham scored their second goal making it 2-0 at full time.

The u10 blues were an absolute joy to watch today and the improvement in this very young team is amazing. Unfortunately, today luck wasn’t on our side, but the team is getting better and better with every match they play and it won’t be long before we start making our way up the league table.

Well done girls for making every one of us parents very, very proud.

The Spurs Ladies u10 Blues made the long trip up the M25 to play Harvesters for the second time this season.

Tottenham totally dominated the match with Charlotte Cummings, Lois Pennington, Tayla Jackson and Shania Mogridge running amuck all over the pitch.

Isabel Phillips and Sydney Fairs totally destroyed any hope Harvesters had of scoring and goalkeeper Lillian Irvine easily coped with the rare threat to her goal.

Amelia Shiner, Chloe O’Reilly, Parris Williams and Stephanie Kypri fought for every ball in a match which should have finished at least 5 or 6 nil.  Spurs had a great penalty by Tayla Jackson saved by the opposing keeper who had been outstanding all match. Unfortunately, the finishing let the girls down in yet another fabulous display by the u10 Blues who keep improving week after week.

Although anyone of the girls could have been awarded player of the match it went to Charlotte Cummings who was outstanding all day.
