The Tottenham Hotspur
Ladies Under-10 Blues were at Fred Knights for their third meeting of
the season against the Under-10 Whites. The Whites have gone away
victorious in the last two meetings and the Blues were determined that
today wasn't going to end in another defeat.
The Blues were without
goalkeeper Lillian Irvine today, so tiny defender Sydney Fairs bravely
stepped in to the position. The match started much the same as those
before with both teams evenly matched and the game being played
virtually end to end.
The Whites struck first
when their striker managed to slip past our last player and smash it in
to the left corner.
As usual the grit and
determination of the Blues shone through and they fought to make sure
the opposition didn't get the chance to double their lead. Half time
0-1.
The Blues have had a
tendency to give games away in the first five minutes of the second
half, but not today. Chloe O'Reilly and Isobel Philips were solid at the
back. Shania Modridge, Tayla Jackson, Stephanie Kypri and Charlotte
Cummings were outstanding in the midfield, while Parris Williams and
Lois Pennington made life hell for The Whites defence. The Spurs
Blues finally got their just reward when Tayla went on a soaring run
down the right flank and after some tough defending by the opposing team,
shot straight in from the right hand corner of the penalty box. 1-1.
Both teams continued to
press for the winner and rookie goalie Syd done us all proud with three
great saves to keep the score level.
The winner came with ten
minutes to go when Shania, who had beaten her last player, was seen to
be brought down inside the box for which the Blues were rewarded with a
spot kick. Lois bravely volunteered and to the delight of her
nervous team mates (and even more anxious parents and manager) struck it
beautifully in the corner of the net 2-1 to the Blues.
The following ten minutes
seemed more like ten hours with yet more chances at both ends, but our
girls were not going to let their lead slip and saw out the rest of the
match to seal their victory. Final score 2-1 to the Blues.
All the girls were
absolutely great today with no exceptions and deserved their victory
especially on their second half performance. Manager Mark Fairs
could not give player of the match today as everyone of them deserved
it. Well done girls you were great.
