The two
Spurs U10 teams faced each other for the second time in the league this
year after their earlier, highly entertaining blank in January had left
both teams sharing the spoils. This time however, it was the Blues
who were to come away victorious after a slender 1-0 win against their
esteemed and equally in form local rivals. The Blues started with an all too familiar starting line up. In goal, was Jacqueline McLucas, with Poppy Bennett and Rachel Hands forming a formidable defensive barrier in front of her. In midfield playing the anchor role was Christie Paige ably supported by playmakers Chloe Tunnicliffe and Tara Sandford, with Maya Vio up front. From the kick off the Blues had the Whites on the back foot, with the Whites seemingly unable to clear the ball from their own half as the Blues snapped in to win the ball and send it back into the danger areas in the White half of the pitch. Although the Blues were piling on the pressure, the Whites defence coped well with the onslaught, keeping the Blues at arms length with their dogged display. For the Blues to make the break through, it was going to take some guile to fashion an opening, which is exactly what happened when Maya picked up the ball to the right of the Whites goal, she held up play brilliantly and drew out a couple of defenders. Chloe, now unmarked at the back post received an inch perfect pass slid in from Maya and drilled it first time past the keeper to make it 1-0 to the Blues. The Blues continued to press and nearly went two up when Tara hit an excellent first time shot from the edge of the penalty area towards the top right hand corner, only to see Kitty Chapman react brilliantly as she touched the ball onto the bar with a strong hand and eventually away to safety. With the Blues dominant in the first half the second half was likely to see the Whites come out and take the game to the Blues a bit more. Although the Whites did come out and force the Blues back in the second half, the Blues coped well, with Jacqueline having to make a couple of saves to keep the Whites at bay. Ellis Lunne came on to give goal hero Chloe Tunnicliffe a well earned rest and went on to cause further problems to the Whites with her pace and direct attacking style of play. The final whistle blew, bringing to an end another entertaining game between the two Tottenham sides and the girls were clearly delighted with the result as they celebrated their victory together. The Blues have put in some excellent performances this season but this has to be their best and most complete performance, for the way they played with a maturity beyond their years. They maintained their shape throughout the game and played with discipline, combining a gritty performance with flair and determination. With eighteen games played, 15 wins, 2 draws and one loss, the girls sit proudly at the top of the table five points clear of Luton in second and the Whites in third on 42 and 40 points respectively, albeit with both teams having three games in hand. Also, having yet to meet in the league this season, the Whites may need to repeat their win in the Chairman’s cup in both their league games with Luton to secure top spot at the end of the season. The Blues however are likely to need to win all their remaining games to stand any chance of winning the league and having played the Whites twice, it means reversing the result against Luton earlier in the year to set up what looks to be an exciting climax to the season. On a beautiful sunny morning the U10
Blues once again showed why they have been league leaders since
Christmas, with an impressive 5-0 victory over an improved Garston
side. All credit to the Garston goalie and her team, but the Blues
passing play and true team spirit proved too much for the Garston girls
to handle. In the first half, the Tottenham girls had to play uphill on the hard ground pitch, but they dug deep, pulled together and the first goal came after about five minutes from Chloe Tunnicliffe. They continued to battle during the first half and Ellis Lunn was brought on to play up front, where she has been improving in recent weeks. At half time the Spurs girls were told to use the downhill and the bounce to their advantage, which they did to great effect, adding four more goals to the tally, with two from Maya Vio and two from Tara Sandford. It must be said that today, as with every other week, the Blues success has come from complete team play including Poppy Bennett and Rachel Hands corners, which are becoming more and more accurate each week ! And the versatility of Christie Page to move from midfield to defence, giving other players such as Shannon Shacklock, Daniela Charles and Chantay Watson the opportunity to play and contribute to the team’s success. Jacqueline McLucas once again found herself a spectator from the goal, but was very vocal in cheering on her team mates. Roll on the League Cup semi-final, where the Blues will once again meet the Whites and with the past performances equal at one win each and a draw, this is certainly lining up to be an exciting match. Once
again the Under-10 Blues made their Manager, Coach and parents extremely
proud, despite the fact that they were unlucky to lose 3-4 against the
U10 Whites.
The whole Blues team showed their class with their passing play and determination, which gave them two goals in the first half from Maya Vio and Chloe Tunnicliffe to finish the first period 2-0 ahead. In the second half, a questionable penalty was given against the Blues and Jacqueline McLucas made a valiant attempt, but was unable to get her fingers to the ball. The Whites seemed to be spurred on, but the Blues didn’t give up and battled to the end, with Chloe Tunnicliffe scoring a second goal which narrowed the final result. All in all, today’s match was very exciting with the U10 Blues putting on a fine performance of football against an equally matched U10 Whites. With three U9 players within the team, it shows what a great achievement they have made to remain top of the League for so long and to be semi-finalists in both the Chairman’s Cup and League Cup. These girls may be out, but they are certainly not down. The girls were asked to pick player of the match themselves, and decided that it should be awarded to the team, which they all thoroughly deserved.VICKY McLUCAS |

With two
games remaining, the U10 Blues were looking for a maximum six points in
order to secure a top two finish. The Blues have played this season with
a great team spirit and when combined with a certain flair and
enthusiasm, have come up with some great results, including a win and a
draw against the Whites in their previous league meetings, having
narrowly lost to the Whites in the Chairman’s Cup semi final last
Sunday. With the disappointment of last week's result behind them, the Blues were looking to avenge their home loss to Luton earlier in the season, to maintain their supremacy in the league. With a full strength squad to choose from, the Blues started the game in determined mood, pushing Luton back into their own half, and limiting them to the occasional break from defence. However, with Poppy Bennett and Rachel Hands looking strong, Jacqueline McLucas was rarely troubled in goal. Instead, it was Spurs who were looking most likely to take the lead as they continued to press Luton Town. The first goal coming midway through the first half, courtesy of Captain Tara Sandford. After having beaten a Luton defender to the ball, she struck a sweetly hit first time shot from her less favoured left foot into the top right hand corner of the Luton goal from just inside the penalty area. Spurs continued to attack and were causing Luton all sorts of problems with Rachel’s long throws, along with a number of corners from both Rachel and Poppy. And it was from one such, Poppy corner that Chloe Tunicliffe made it 2-0 with a superbly struck volley to take all three points to keep the pressure up on the Whites at the top of the table. However, in beating Luton, they also did their Whites team-mates a huge favour, which should see both teams finish first and second, providing the Whites avoid defeat at Luton, when they meet in what should be an exciting finale to the season, later this month. This was another great team performance from the Blues, with every player making a telling contribution. Player of the Match went to captain Tara Sandford.IAN SANDFORD |

Four
goals from Maya Vio and a goal from Tara Sandford was enough to wrap up
a well deserved win for the Blues against the Owls and was enough to
ensure a second place finish for the Blues, on which would be their
final league game of the season.
The Spurs girls put in another fine performance in blustery conditions, which would also see all the players come on to contribute in a convincing 5-0 home win. This result, should pave the way for a first and second finish for both Spurs teams, with the Whites taking top spot. Well done the Whites !! IAN SANDFORD |
