MALDON SAINTS U10 0
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10

Today was the first game of the season for Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Under-10s in the Essex County Girls League, and we welcomed Maldon Saints to Freddie Knights as our opponents.

The game started at a very high tempo for both teams, but Spurs soon broke the deadlock.  A quality game ensued and the early training session lessons were paying off a treat, with Renea Jarrett passing the ball with much style, controlling the pace of play and Hope Florin-Sefton running from box to box to defend and net five goals.

To their credit, Maldon Saints never stopped, and were very unlucky with the score-line which was eventually 23-0 to Spurs.

The outcome, we are sure, will be very different the next time we meet.  Our newly appointed team leaders were Merley Aylott captain and Hope Florin Sefton Vice Captain.

A player of the match was not selected today.

FOREST GLADE U10 2
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC U10 9
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
Today Forest Glade welcomed Spurs Ladies Under-10s as their opponents in the Essex Girls County League.

The game started very evenly and Forest Glade proved that tackling was a particular skill of theirs with some extremely good defensive play.  With Renea Jarrett again excelling in midfield, Spurs broke the deadlock for a 1-0 lead.  Some amazing football then took place, with the whole team playing some beautiful football, starting moves from the back and passing the ball the whole way up the pitch.

We conceded two goals, one being an amazing free kick from Forest Glade, and the other from some nice build up play. Luckily for us, we ended up scoring nine goals and secured victory.

Captain Merley Aylott was unavailable today, so Hope Florin Sefton lead the team in her absence, along with the trusted experience of Olivia Callegari and Renea Jarrett helping Hope out, while performances all across the Spurs team were excellent.

Renea Jarrett was awarded player of the match.

WRITTLE MINORS U10 0
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10

The Spurs Ladies and Writtle Minors Under-10s teams kicked off in the glorious October sunshine.

Within minutes, Writtle were putting pressure on Tottenham and our defence was put to the test.  Our defenders Ellie  Cooper and Merley Aylott did a fantastic job, and Writtle could not break through.  Writtle had a free kick just outside the area which sailed over the crossbar.

Unfortunately, our goalie Isobel sustained an injury whilst bravely diving for the ball and was replaced by Millie Maddox in goal.  The two teams were pretty evenly matched and the result could have gone either way.  Callie Soutar took a shot which was on target and only a good save by Writtle’s goalie prevented us going 1-0 up.

Tottenham upped their game in the second half, putting Writtle under constant pressure.  Writtle’s goal keeper made two fantastic saves in succession after Renea and Callie took great shots.

Olivia gained possession and ran down the left hand side, passing the ball into the midfield.  This was followed by a 1-2 on the edge of the box, resulting in Hope Florin-Sefton taking a shot that hit the post.  The rebound landed at Jessie Mullee’s feet and she took a shot ,which also hit the post.  Despite repeated attempts, the elusive goal didn’t materialise.

All in all an evenly contested match with both teams deserving of their point.  A great performance by the girls.  Well done!

GREAT DANES U10 1
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC U10 6
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10

With the sun shining down on us again, Spurs Ladies Under-10s travelled to Brentwood to play Great Danes in the Essex league.

Tottenham started well and were soon 1-0 up after Hope skilfully passed two defenders to slot a goal home.  A free kick awarded to Great Danes just outside our area put Tottenham under pressure, but the girls defended well and we had a good chance on the break.  Millie smashed a superb goal into the net !

After lovely manoeuvring by Renea in midfield, she passed the ball to Hope who hit the post. Despite not being her usual position, Olivia was a star in goal !  A striker for Great Danes broke through our defence and had a clear opportunity to take a shot, but Olivia bravely came out to meet the attack and dived for the ball.

Tottenham continued to put Great Danes under pressure.  Renea and Jessie both took shots in succession, forcing their goalie to make two great saves.  Tottenham played some quality football, keeping their shape and passing the ball out wide when necessary.  Ellie passed a lovely ball to Renea, who slotted the ball safely into the net.

At half time the score was 3-0.  Within the first minute of the second half Renea had once again managed to find the back of the net.

Great Danes continued to put up a good fight and pushed Tottenham all the way.  However, Merley and Ellie were solid in defence and did a great job of closing them down.

Renea took a fabulous corner which deflected slightly off a Great Danes player for an own goal, and now Tottenham were 4-0 up.  Great Danes persistence finally paid off and they scored a great goal after breaking through our defence.

Renea managed to find the back of the net one more time when she lobbed the keeper – another fantastic goal which secured her hat trick and resulted in the final score 6-1 to Tottenham.

Another great team effort from all our girls, well done!

Renea was awarded player of the match.

KICKSTART GIRLS U10 0
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
The touchline was packed for this top of table encounter between Spurs and Kickstart U10s. The away support almost outnumbered the loyal home fans.  They were good in voice too before the match, trying to encourage their team onto an historic upset.

However, they were silenced within 20 seconds of the opening whistle, by an audacious and direct Spurs attack. The ball was whipped up to Callie who fired the ball against the post; she caught the rebound and it was 1-0 to the Spurs. To Kickstart’s credit they did not roll over and the first half soon bedded down to a tough battle between an imaginative Spurs attack and some resilient defending. Jessie tried some marauding runs up the left, and Millie threaded a few gorgeous balls down the right but they could find no way through. In their bright yellow and black, the Kickstart bees defended in numbers, and after 10 corners and numerous goal mouth skirmishes the home supporters were beginning to wonder were the next goal was going to come from.

Cue an adventurous substitution, with Renea immediately darting in from the right, rounding five defenders before slipping the ball under their goalie, 2-0. With confidence back up, Spurs began to spraying the ball around with Renea, Callie and Jesse working a lovely move; and Olivia hitting the post from another. With any attacking play by Kickstart snuffed out by an almost telepathic understanding between Merle and Ellie, their heads started to drop and they were clearly relieved to be only two down at half time.

The respite was brief, and Olivia hit the post for second time seconds after the start of the second half. Soon after Millie blasted a shot against the post that seemed to then roll along the line before going over, 3-0. Now Spurs were in the ascendency with Hope starting to dribble around their players on the edge of the box. A sublime corner from Hope found Jesse on the edge of the box, who took it first time to force a tremendous save from their goalie. Only occasionally did Kickstart make our half, usually due to a run from their No. 6, but each time Isabel stood up tall in her fluorescent orange jersey and there was no way through. The match was rounded off nicely, when a move starting in our half, consisting of six passes gave Callie her second goal of the match, 4-0.

Well done the Spurs.

MALDON SAINTS U10 0
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC U10 14
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
We travelled to Maldon Saints today and the weather was somewhat dubious, as was our luck, as captain Merley Aylott had sprained her wrist and was unable to play.

The game kicked off and the football was slow to kick into action.  A good move from Spurs saw Millie score with a fine angled shot. Jessie soon put us 2-0 up with two more quick goals from Renea and Hope to make it 4-0. Maldon picked up the pace and found themselves in our goal area, but a fine break out of defence saw Renea make it 5-0. A quick brace from Callie and another Renea goal made the score 8-0 at half time.

Maldon again came out on the attack, and almost scored, before another Spurs break saw Callie and Renea both score a brace. One very unlucky own goal and a goal from Hope sealed a 14-0 victory for Spurs to keep the pressure on Writtle at the top of the table.

Despite all of the goals, the man of the match went to the mighty Isobel, our usual goalie who played on pitch today, and gave a stunning performance.

Maldon have come a very long way in their short time together, and we are very sure the score-line will be different the next time we meet.

Well done to both teams.

FOREST GLADE U10 0
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
A unusually beautiful November morning set upon Freddie Knights, much to the delight of everyone.

Some team photos were taken by our official photographer and website extraordinaire, and this seemed to set the tempo for the day.

Our opponents Forest Glade arrived and were also in fine voice.  A chirpy bunch who couldn't wait to get started.

The game kicked off in fierce tempo from both teams, with Forest pushing right into our area. Spurs got control of the ball and Callie pounced for the first goal.  The second goal came from what was possibly the best Spurs move of the season. Some divine cross-field passing that lead to new signing Ellie Luckhurst firing in superbly at an angle from the edge of the box.  Spurs now kicked into gear, absorbing pressure and breaking, with the whole team gelling.  Renea scored three goals in quick succession to make the score 5-0.

As the second half went on, Callie scored three goals, again all after superb whole team play, to end the game 8-0 to Spurs.

The unluckiest team I think I have ever seen with injuries was Forest Glade today.  They had some seriously brave girls playing today, so well done to them, and well done Spurs and we hope Captain Merley is fit again next week to complete a full squad for the game against Writtle.

WRITTLE MINORS U10 3
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC U10 0
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
After an intensely foggy journey to Writtle, all of the Spurs Ladies Under-10 girls arrived at our opposition's ground expecting a tough game, and boy did we get one.

The most eagerly anticipated game of the season had finally arrived.

The first half started very well for both teams, with both coming close to the elusive first goal.  Some scrappy play then ensued, with Spurs not on their normal slick passing game.

Half time came and the score was still 0-0, the team had a talk about the passing game that we normally play and set off for the second half.  Writtle came out all guns blazing and before we knew it, we were 2-0 down.

Today was certainly not going to be our day, as the home team were winning every ball, our midfield were struggling and our defence were being put under too much pressure.  Writtle again came steaming into the Spurs half and scored once again.  3-0 down and we had nothing to lose, so we steamed forward and should have had two goals back very quickly, but today was just not to be our day, with even our shots not quite what we would usually produce.

The game finished 3-0 to Writtle and we could only applaud their tenacity and style at the end of the game.

No man of the match was awarded today.

GREAT DANES U10 1
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
A cold Sunday morning saw Great Danes visit a depleted Tottenham side, as Millie Maddox, Hope Florin-Sefton and Merley Aylott were all unwell with the flu that is doing the rounds. Tottenham would have their work cut out today against a much improved Great Danes side.

Renea Jarrett today captained the side in the absence of Merley and Hope. Tottenham got off to a good start, taking a 1-0 lead thanks to Callie Soutar after some good build up play.  Things got a little tight when Great Danes pulled one back, but Tottenham were resilient and rewarded when the second and winning goal came from Renea.

Spurs almost made it 3-1, but a magnificent header from Callie just nipped over. The girls clung to their lead and the final whistle was a great relief.

The whole team were awarded man of the match today after an excellent performance with no subs to call on.

CORRINGHAM COSMOS U10 0
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
Another cold morning at Freddie Knights saw Corringham Cosmos visit to play Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Under-10s.

We were without Millie Maddox today, who was still unwell.  Get well soon Millie.

This was the first time we had faced Corringham and we didn't know what to expect.  They came at us from the word go and were very tough opponents and closed us down well.

As the first half went on, Spurs found some passing rhythm and Ellie Luckhurst went clean through on goal and coolly slotted home for 1-0.

The second half saw Spurs enjoy much possession due to some hard graft from the whole team.  A deserved goal soon came for Jessie Mullee, who put in the usual hard graft for her entire shift.  Spurs were on the up now and a great tackle from Hope Florin Sefton saw her win the ball and storm past three players, resulting in a third and final goal for Spurs, although this was an unlucky deflection from a Corringham defender, but we will give the goal to Hope.

A very good team performance yet again, with Merley man of the match.

KICKSTART GIRLS U10 0
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC U10 2
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10

We made the short away journey to Walthamstow on a cold wet and windy Sunday afternoon. The team were in a jovial Christmas spirit, and despite a delayed kick off, stayed that way.

The wonderful Kickstart allowed our mascot for the day, Jem the tiger (Hope's brother) to lead both teams out on his birthday.

The game started and both teams played some lovely football despite the weather conditions.  As the first half went on, Spurs threatened more and more, before Callie Soutar opened the scoring, finishing after another fine Spurs move.

The second half started, and conditions were not ideal, with both teams style of play suffering due to wind.  Spurs managed to seal up a win courtesy of a Renea Jarrett goal that saw the game finish 2-0 to Spurs.

A decent performance from both sides.

Some rather cold players and parents made their way home ready for a deserved Christmas break.
What a year 2011 has been.
Well done everyone.

MALDON SAINTS U10 0
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
The first and eagerly anticipated game of the Olympic year kicked off at Freddie Knights and the whole club was on a high after a great weekend of football.  Maldon Saints again turned up full of beans, one of the reasons we fondly look forward to games against them.

The game started with decent end to end play from both sides with Callie Soutar going close on numerous occasions. The Spurs side had a somewhat strange day today, all playing in different positions to help with positional awareness. Jessie Mullee put in a great shift in every position on the pitch, Millie Maddox, Ellie Luckhurst, Callie Soutar, Renea Jarrett, Isobel Denner all moved around positions with great style. Ellie Cooper and Hope Florin Sefton shared goalkeeping duties excellently today, as well as playing their part on the field.

Merley 'Chopper' Aylott (so named after training last Thursday) was her usual self in defence, but man of the match went to Olivia Callegari, who today played superbly, covering every inch of the pitch and performed one very unselfish act in a display of friendship to our Essex league friends Maldon Saints.

The game ended 6-0 to Spurs, with the goals coming from Jessie Mullee 2, Callie Soutar 2, Ellie Luckhurst and the mighty Isobel Denner, who scored her first goal of the season and kept the pressure up at the top of the league.

Well done to all of our players, and thanks to all of the parents for the continuous encouragement of the team, Mick and I.

Thanks especially to Ollie (Jessie's dad) for his help and experience in training with the team(s).

FOREST GLADE U10 0
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC U10 5
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
The Under-10s made the trip to Forest Glade, a little nervous over the weather conditions which were very frosty all weekend in North London.  We needn't have worried, as unusually the temperature was a degree or two higher in Essex, meaning pitches were in lovely condition.

The game began, and Spurs were straight on the attack, with Hope Florin Sefton hitting the post in the first couple of minutes after some lovely team play involving Jessie Mullee and Millie Maddox.  The play from Spurs was neat and we got our reward midway through the first half when Jessie slotted home from close range. Half time came and we were soon attacking from the start of the second half.

A loose ball fell to Ellie Luckhurst just outside the edge of the box and an absolute screamer of a goal followed, with the ball destined only for the back of the net when it left her boot. Spurs pressed again after kick off and Callie Soutar came close, injuring herself in the process. Olivia took over up front and soon had us 3-0 up, again after good Spurs play. Renea Jarrett wrapped up a 5-0 victory with a couple of lovely goals, again from top notch teamwork. All in all, a massive team performance today, with assured performances from Ellie Cooper and Merley Aylott at the back.

Renea, Jessie, Callie, Ellie Luckhurst, Isobel, Olivia, Hope and Millie all swapped positions when required, but all put in a very good shift.

Hope was man of the match today, covering every inch of the pitch, creating chances, and pulling off one run that went from deep in her own half and resulted in a shot after passing four opposition players.

Well done.

Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
We welcomed Writtle Minors U10 to Freddie Knights on a cold Sunday morning knowing that a tough game was ahead of us.

The game started just as we all expected, with both teams playing some lovely football.

Writtle were always a threat, with their defenders in excellent form.  We were unlucky to go 1-0 down, when a shot from the edge of the box deflected off our defender and wrong footed Esther in goal. Spurs tried in vain to find an equaliser and came close on two occasions, but a Writtle shot from the edge of the box again sealed a 2-0 win for them.

Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10 Cup quarter final
Great Danes were our opponents today in a League Cup Quarter Final.

The game started just the way Spurs love to play with flowing football on the agenda. We were very unlucky to go 1-0 down in the first half from a Danes cross.  This was not going to put the Tottenham girls off, and our work soon paid off, when Merley Aylott scored from the unusual midfield position she was occupying today.

Despite controlling the entire game with some superb football and peppering the Danes goal with shots, but today was just not our day and Danes scored a winner midway through the second half.

Spurs tried in vain to find an equaliser but just could not find the net.

Well done to Gt. Danes though, who defended with everything they had, and played some nice football themselves.

Finally we were back after a two week snow disruption!

A very eager Spurs manager arrived at Corringham, excited and eager to kick off.

We got off to a good start, playing the ball nicely on a bobbly pitch, but found no real success early on.  We continued to press a tough Cosmos side and finally had our reward when Ellie Luckhurst tapped in from close range.

The game continued in the same vein in the second half, with 'the mighty' Isobel Denner again throwing everything she had in front of everyone. Millie Maddox played some lovely football today, constantly looking to carve out a chance, and Olivia Callegari defended resolutely to keep Cosmos at bay.

A hard earned 1-0 win after a long break.

KICKSTART GIRLS U10 0
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
The tea lady has just arrived ready for the 10 o'clock kick off. The crowd tense as they worry if they have enough change or face the wrath of having a £10 note !

The game began with early pressure from Kickstart only to be thwarted by a great clearance from Ellie Cooper that fell straight for Ellie Luckhurst, the return pressure resulting in Spurs’ first corner.  Whipped in, the ball from Hope Florin Sefton flew over everyone, and resulted in a half chance for Ellie L.  Spurs sustained pressure with some good link up play between Hope and Ellie L.  Occasional breaks from Kickstart were easily dealt with by more solid defending from Ellie C.

The first real effort of the game fell to Merely who forced a great save from their keeper.

As the game progressed so did the passing and off ball movement.  This style of football created space for Hope to have several shots on target. Hungry for more, she pounced on a clearance and scored. 1-0 Spurs.

Again Spurs played some lovely passing football and a ball through from Hope enabled a long-range effort from Ellie L, but this went slightly wide.  Renea Jarrett and Callie Soutar came on for Jessie Mullee and Millie Maddox to freshen things up and in the next move the ball fell for Ellie C., who produced a super effort from outside the box, only to see it go slightly wide.  A period of good pressure from the home side and with Renea getting a shout from her dad to look up, spotting the keeper off her line, she took her shot swiftly from just inside the half scoring a lovely goal to make it 2-0.

A fine cross from Renea, over Callie and falling for Ellie L to attempt a volley but she hits over.  Kickstart realising that their best form of defence may be to attack means that once again, Ellie C is called upon for more solid tackling and a great clearances, linking well with Hope once more.

Lovely football between Renea and Callie puts Hope through to take on three defenders but the keeper saved well.

Second half

Jessie took over in goal for the second half. Izzie Denner’s impact on pitch was immediate with a great little dink to Callie who forced a super save from the keeper.  Pressure from Kickstart resulted in their first corner, but Izzie was there again, collecting from the box to make an effective clearance.  A great diagonal cross from Renea found Callie, whose fierce shot was bravely saved by the keeper with Ellie L. coming close, but hitting the woodwork.

A surging run from the Kickstart striker called upon some skilful defending from Millie that started off yet another Spurs attack with Izzie unlucky not to score.  For a while Spurs lost their shape, but Merley Aylott did well to ‘sweep up’ any chance that Kickstart may have had.

Millie played the ball out of defence to Ellie L., who battled through two defenders and crossed to force a save from the keeper, only to find Hope who finished well.  3-0 Spurs.  Some late pressure from Kickstart but our super defending today ensured a clean sheet.

A solid performance from all girls on both teams concluding with rapturous hip hips from both sides.  Kickstart should be commended as they never gave up and showed great determination throughout the match.

CORRINGHAM COSMOS U10 0
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR LADIES FC U10 1
Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
We made the journey in heavy rain to Corringham and were relieved when it stopped for the game.

Today we were missing Jessie Mullee, Millie Maddox and Callie Soutar, and with Olivia Callegari unwell and unsure whether she could play a full game, Esther stepped in to help.

The game got off to a great footballing start, with Hope Florin Sefton, Esther and Renea Jarrett bossing the midfield.  Ellie Luckhurst was lively up front, and Merley Aylott and Ellie Cooper were as usual solid at the back. Izy Denner was somewhat quiet in goal and Olivia was a great help, coming on and covering various positions allowing others to get some rest.  Our passing, energy and movement was very crisp and a superb move saw Ellie C intercept a ball with her head, run past the halfway line and play a lovely ball for Esther, who unleashed an unstoppable shot for us to go 1-0 up.

The second half came and Merley took over in goal.  Hope, Izy and Esther again solid in the middle, Ellie L holding the ball brilliantly up front, and Renea, Olivia and Ellie C tight at the back.

No more goals came, but everyone was very happy with the style played in awkward weather conditions.  Ellie C was player of the match today for a brilliant performance, snuffing everything out and making Spurs tick with passes out from defence.

Essex County Girl's Football League  - U10
We travelled to Great Danes knowing that the result would not affect our position of runners up in the league, so just aimed to have good fun and play good football, and my word, did we do that.

The game started, and immediately Spurs were pressing, taking a 1-0 lead on two minutes from a Callie Soutar goal. We gained possession almost immediately again, and Esther Morgan, Renea Jarrett and Olivia Callegari combined through midfield to slot Callie in for 2-0.

Spurs continued to knock the ball around and Renea was 'on the jazz' again in midfield, steaming through for a 3-0 lead.

Half time came and went, and Izy Denner joined the midfield, adding extra bite.  The Great Danes attack was snuffed out by Ellie Cooper, who superbly used her head, controlled and passed to Esther, who smashed home. This was some of the best football of the season.

Merley Aylott next contributed to attack, bringing the ball out for Esther to play Callie in for 5-0, wonderful stuff from Callie, who looked in fine form today.

The game was to get a sixth and final goal, again from Callie, and excellent play from Olivia, Renea and Izy in midfield.

Player of the match was awarded to Callie.

Well done to the girls for finishing runners up in the league.
