Beds FA Tournament 2004-05

Under-10s

18.02.2005

Tottenham U10’s took part in their first ever tournament and ended up winning it. The girls played six games in total of 10 minutes duration on a cold and windy day in Luton, spread over a five hour period.

The Spurs side started the campaign with a blistering attack on Ipswich Town, which they won 4-0 with the goals coming from Laura and Bobbi, both who scored two a piece.

This was followed up by a 3-0 defeat of Oxford I, with two goals from Katie and one more from Laura.

The third game was more tricky and Bedford came at Spurs with a lot of determination, but once again the defence of Vicki and Hollie, held firm and Lily in goal made some important saves. After the initial attacks, Tottenham got into their usual stride and the Bedford keeper kept them in the game. It ended 0-0 after the 10 minutes had elapsed.

The fourth game against Oxford II saw Tottenham back to their old selves and the goal scorers this time were Bobbi and Charlotte, with the second goal, to make it 2-0 at the final whistle.

The girls now had a very long wait for their fifth game against Luton.
This was a crunch match, as both teams were at the top of the table.  From the kick off the girls camped themselves in the Luton half and despite countless attempts on target, by Bobbi, Laura, Katie, Charlotte, Hollie, Vicki and Lulu Fox (making her debut for Tottenham) they couldn’t find the back of the net. The final score was 0-0.

This set the scene for the final game against Norwich City.
The winners of this match, would win the tournament. It was a tense affair, with Tottenham once again applying the pressure from the start. Despite a number of shots on target by the girls, they couldn’t find the breakthrough and Lily in the Tottenham goal was called upon to make some good saves, after Norwich broke through. Finally to relief all round, Bobbi popped up to blast the ball home and the game finished 1-0.

This was very much a team effort and Paige, who had been feeling unwell in the morning, very bravely helped out her team-mates during the day, coming on as a substitute with Lulu.  Charlotte was named player of the tournament by Gerry.

It was brilliant to see the girls secure their first competition win and hopefully it won’t be the last. Well done.
