In what was a must-win game for both sides, the Spurs
Ladies u10 Whites gave a superb display to make it to the Chairman’s Cup
semi-final.
The girls put Harvesters under pressure from the kick
off. Excellent shooting from Izzy Lewis and Flo Donald drew good
saves, before Kally-Ann Westgarth beat both a defender and the keeper to
open the scoring. The second came with Elle Sunshine’s shot from
an extremely tight angle.
Early in the second half, a scintillating seven-pass move
culminated in a goal for Holly Beaumont. It looked to be over for
the visitors, but to their credit their heads didn’t drop and they came
back at the Whites in an effort to salvage something from the game.
They had a goal disallowed for a foul on Bella Hansard before the Whites
hit back with a fourth. Izzy Lewis showed persistence to dispossess a
defender and set up a tap-in for Flo Donald.
There were some good runs down the wing from Rosie
Johnson and Mia Farrell and Leonie Barrick was strong in central
midfield linking the play.
It
was an excellent team performance from the Whites, showing skill and
intelligence in attack and when necessary, committed defending from
Joely Harris-Tharp and Carlota Franques supported by the whole team.
Hopefully, there’ll be a lot more to come from this young
team.
