The THLFC U10 Whites got off to a good start in 2009 putting a brace past Harvesters.  The Whites started strongly in attack from the off knowing that Harvesters had only scored once in the league this season.  On seven minutes they were rewarded when Rosie Johnson was able to convert a cross from Mia Farrell.

The Whites continued to push forward with Flo Donald, captain and midfield general, hitting the post twice.  Leonie Barrick added support to a strong midfield that kept Harvesters in the own half of the pitch for long spells.  Some stylish passing between Kally-Ann Westgarth, and Holly Beaumont led nearly led to several goals, but the ball wouldn’t go in.  Joely Harris-Tharp and Carlota Franques repelled the few attempts Harvesters had on goal until, with three minutes to go, a rare surge forward by Harvesters caught the whites off guard and Harvesters levelled.

The girls came back heads up and with a minute to go Holly Beaumont finally managed to slot home a pass from Kally-Ann Westgarth and give the Whites a well deserved lead.  Bella Hansard pulled of a late safe to ensure Spurs walked away with all three points.

The Spurs Ladies Under-10 Whites fought a fierce battle against Enfield Rangers to come away with honours even.

Elle Sunshine put a chink of light between the two teams when she slotted home a clever ball Kally Ann Westgarth had fed through to her.  The Whites continued to hold the Enfield attacks and Carlota Franques was on fire as she defended doggedly and stuck to Rangers key striker and at one point saved the game by clearing off the line.

Five minutes into the second half Rangers equalised following a corner and brave keeper Bella Hansard hurt her hand and was replaced by Mia Farrell, who got the chance to wear the new training top and managed to keep the ball out for the rest of the match.

Flo Donald, playing just in front of defence, blocked the central path for the Rangers attacks, while strikers Rosie Johnson and Holly Beaumont looked threatening up front but weren’t able to convert.  Rosie and Elle both got chances late in the game that could have finished Rangers off but unfortunately they were just off target.

Izzy Lewis astounded the opposition with the length of her throw ins and made some threatening runs down the right wing.  Joely Harris-Tharp made some great clearances and Leonie Barrick joined the play on the left.

Player of the match was a hard choice but given to Elle Sunshine for scoring her first goal of the season.

Spurs Ladies Under-10 Whites travelled to Luton Town on a chilly January morning for their HCGFL match.

It took 19 minutes for Tottenham Whites to finally break down a Luton side, who were much improved from our previous encounter with them in October.  The goal game from a corner which was well taken by Joely Harris-Tharp which found an alert Rosie Johnson ready to tap home; Rosie’s second goal in three games. For much of the early part of the first half Tottenham looked shapeless and seemed to be missing captain Flo Donald who generally controls the midfield.

Goals breed confidence and a different side came on for the second half with everyone seeming settled in their roles. Vice captain Izzy Lewis tirelessly ran up and down the right wing and her crosses lead to the next three goals, a brace from Holly Beaumont, who made several superb passes in the game and a late final goal from Kally-Ann Westgarth who after several close misses finally managed to convert.

Mia Farrell standing in for the injured Bella Hansard was not really tested though looked confident and started several attacks from her far reaching goal kicks.  Leonie Barrick balanced the side on the left and Elle Sunshine looked strong in her constant fight for the ball and finished up supporting Carlota Franques at the back, who, as ever, fought for every ball never giving up where others might accept they were beaten.

Player of the match a difficult choice but for an all round performance and good leadership the honour went to captain of the day Izzy Lewis.

The game at Fred Knights between Spurs Ladies U10 Whites and Hampstead U10 looked for the most part to end in a goal less draw, with both sides finding it hard to break through solid defences.

Tottenham held firm in defence with the partnership between Joely Harris Tharp and Carlota Franques looking strong as ever.  Bella Hansard, back from injury, made some good saves but in the 15th minute of the second half Tottenham could hold out no longer.  The goal came against the run of play with Kally Ann Westgarth (captain for the day) having just set up a perfect pass for Rosie Johnson.  Rosie picked up the pass and ran towards goal, only up against the keeper, only for her on target shot to be pushed inches over the right corner of the crossbar.

With only seven girls available it was never going to be an easy task for the Whites to get anything out of the game and once the first goal had gone in it wasn’t long before a second slid past the keeper into the left corner.

The Whites, with Holly Beaumont playing in central midfield and Leonie Barrick on the left, battled on to the end never giving up, but without any substitutes and a few of the girls carrying knocks from a physical game, with the ever well organised Hampstead side they can feel proud that they did so well and held on for so long.

A very on form The Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Under-10 Whites side held the league leaders to a 0-0 HCGFL draw.

The score line shows how close the match was but not how exciting and end to end game was in reality.  The Tottenham side went straight at Enfield from the beginning and it was a very far cry from their last encounter on a freezing cold and wet Saturday in December when the Whites were hammered 5-0 on a very poor pitch.

Both sides had their chances, though Enfield had a couple that came very close and only thanks to the agile goalkeeping of player of the match Bella Hansard did the score sheet remain clean.  Bella was supported in defence by the as ever stalwart Carlota Franques and Joely Harris-Tharp who both consistently repelled the Enfield attacks.

Captain Flo Donald had a few good shots that came close and lead by example battling against a thigh strain.  There was some superb passing between Flo and midfielder Kally Ann Westgarth and Holly Beaumont playing up front.  Elle Sunshine put in some strong tackles and Mia Farrell was quick on the right wing which, she put down to a breakfast of banana, apple and toast !  Leonie Barrick added to the team efforts from the left.  Sadly Izzy Lewis recovering from an ankle injury found in the warm up that her ankle wasn’t ready for a return and had to watch from the sidelines.

after extra time

home counties girl's football league u10 cup quarter final

With the absence of captain and vice captain, Holly Beaumont led the Under-10 Whites out for their HCGFL Cup quarter final encounter with Denham United.  The home side came on strongly at the start, but the ball did not seem to want to go into the net and it looked for a long time as if lady luck was smiling on Tottenham.  Bella Hansard in goal pulled off a string of fine save and the defending duo of Carlota Franques and Joely Harris-Tharp worked as usual as a slick team, with Carlota at one point saving off the line with the toe of her boot.  Even Leonie Barrick got in on the classy defending, chesting out an on target shot.

After keeping an attacking Denham side at bay throughout the first half shortly into the second half the broke the dead lock and slotted home.  The Tottenham girls heads did not go down and with ten minutes to go Joely Harris- Tharp lobbed up field to Kally Ann Westgarth, who made a fine pass to Rosie Johnson, who with only the goal keeper to beat remained calm and placed her shot into the corner out of the goalkeeper's reach.

The goal was the wake-up call for the Tottenham girls, who upped the paced with Elle Sunshine’s strong tackles blocking the way to the Denham attack and Mia Farrell making some fine runs down the right wing, the game started to look like it could go Tottenham’s way.

Tottenham dreams were shattered early in extra time when Denham found the back of the net twice in quick succession.  However, the girls never gave up and continued to push up and play some excellent passing football with Joely Harris-Tharp starting a series of attacks from the back.
