A first in Spurs Ladies' history saw the
U10 Whites take on the U10 Blues in the Chairman's Cup Final at
Frederick Knights Sports Ground, putting in a fine display before
succumbing to their club colleagues. It was a colourful day out
with the Blues in white and the Whites in yellow.
In the first half, the Blues showed some
Cup Final nerves as they were closed down quickly by Kathleen Jackson
and Rhiannon Bassett, with Georgia Miller keeping the Blues defence on
their toes. Keeper Lauren Holman made a couple of very good saves
and when replaced by Kitty Chapman, a shot from Danielle Wheeler was
expertly tipped over the bar. While there was little threat
for the Blues keeper, the hard work put in by Kayla Miles and Hannah
Fenton-Burgess kept their opponents occupied.
With five minutes to go to half-time, a
long shot from Molly Bartrip beat Kitty at her post to give the Blues
the lead. The Whites enjoyed a bit of luck when a shot from Lulu
Fox hit the post and bounced out.
Into the second half, the Blues settled
and passed the ball batter making it hard for the Whites to gain
possession of the ball. A goal after two minutes made their task
even harder. Danielle Wheeler cut in from the left wing to hit a
powerful shot that beat Lauren in goal. She made amends later with
two good saves, before making way for Kitty again.
The Blues wrapped up the win with a goal
seven minutes into the half, when a shot hit the post and bounced out to
Lulu, who hit the ball back into the net to make it 3-0.
Evie Rose, Tara Sandford, Jacqueline
McLucas, Christie Paige and Tyesha Charles all played their part in the
Blues effort and the girls should be proud of their display in reaching
the final of this competition in their first season together and with
half the side a year younger than the age group they are playing at.
