Jayne Foster's Under-11s had a good win over a determined Buntingford side at Frederick Knights Sports ground. A good passing display saw them win the match, but there were chances to add to their total, but good goalkeeping and a solid defensive display saw the Cougars keep Spurs out. Spurs plugged away at the Buntingford defence, but with Georgia Bruce hitting the post from a 3rd minute corner, they were getting little change out of the Cougars back line. It was left to Nikki Hunnable to show her predatory instincts, when she pounced on a loose ball from a ninth minute corner to put Spurs in front. A minute later and Spurs doubled their lead. Hannah Lyons had been making good ground on the left wing and her cross was sliced goalwards by a defender, with the keeper just being unable to keep the ball out. Nikki almost scored another when she returned a goal-kick straight back at goal, but the goalie made a good save. There had been a good performance in midfield by Taylor O'Leary and it was her cross after 12 minutes that saw Nikki volley home the third Tottenham goal with her left foot. The introduction of Charlotte Dean produced problems for the Cougars defenders and she pulled two low saves from the goalie before the half-time break. A few changes at the start of the second half, saw Spurs line up with the improving Harley Keenlyside alongside Shianne St. Louis, who had a solid game on the right. Olivia Keown played an important part in keeping the Cougars out of range to trouble keeper Daisy O'Sullivan. Two minutes into the second period, Georgia Bruce crossed from the left to Charlotte, who volleyed home the fourth before drawing the keeper into action again, making a double save in the fifth minute. Taylor was picking out some incisive passes and set up Georgia, who slipped her marker to shoot just wide. Ten minutes of the half had elapsed, when Charlotte found herself in the area on the right and drilled a shot past the keeper to make the score-line 5-0. This became six, when, four minutes later, the keeper's kick out was picked up by Renata Inniss, who ran it back and shot into the net. Some neat passing saw chances created for Hannah, Georgia, Charlotte and Renata, butt hey could not force their way past the diving Cougars keeper. Even the woodwork was against Spurs, as Charlotte hit the post and the ball ran across the face of goal. However, with time running out, Hannah Lyons broke on the left of the area and her shot was sliced past her own keeper by a defender to give Spurs a 7-0 win. Full credit goes to the Cougars side for their battling display, but Spurs put on a good show to earn the points, with Shianne St. Louis being awarded the manager's Player of the match award. |

Spurs Under-11s continued their recent good
run of form with a home win over Hitchin Town Tigers.
From the kick off, Spurs put pressure on
the Hitchin defence, who were able to keep them at bay for the first
five minutes before a through ball from Taylor O'Leary found Nikki
Hunnable, who put the ball in the back of the net at the second attempt.
Some good passing from the Spurs team meant that the Hitchin
keeper was busy on a number of occasions. Taylor made a surging run at the Hitchin defence, shot at
goal and when the ball was blocked, Nicole Bailey hammered the rebound
against the post. Charlotte Dean
and Hannah Lyons were brought on for Ayse Mustafa and Nicole.
Straight away Hannah made several promising runs on goal, only to be
foiled by the keeper. Despite
several good moves from the Spurs attack, they could not muster any more
goals before the half time whistle. The second half kick off saw Jayne Foster make some more changes. Nikki had several chances but could not find the back of the net, while in defence, Shianne did some good covering work supported by Taylor on the wing to supply more ammunition for Nicole and Ayse. It wasn’t long before Nicole collected
the ball from Taylor and fired it in the back of the net for 2-0 lead.
Spurs Ladies were looking a bit jaded for not having made the
most of their possession before Nikki gave them a winning 3-0 lead from
a scramble in the Hitchin penalty area. It was a good performance from the team,
but they let themselves down by not taken their chances in front of
goal, but the Manager’s
player of the match was Nikki Hunnable. Ricky Inniss |

On a cold and windy day
Spurs Ladies were looking forward to a repeat performance of the game at
Fredrick Knights ground, when they travelled to meet Northwood Girls.
The Spurs Ladies first half squad consisted of Renata, Ayse, Nikki, Taylor, Nicole, Olivia and Daisy. From the kick off, Spurs were battling against the strong breeze whilst trying to put pressure on the Northwood Girls, who lined up with some new players since the last match. The first 24 minutes saw Spurs Ladies keeping their patience by keeping the ball low with lots of passing to frustrate the Northwood defence. Ayse developed a
hamstring problem and was substituted by Georgia and Hannah entered the
play in place of Renata. One minute later, Taylor latched onto a
rebound shot from Nicole to make it 0-1. Straight away Georgia was
in action and a minute later, a determined run down the right wing saw
her shot at goal fumbled by the goalkeeper where Nikki was on hand to
tuck the ball into the net for 0-2. From the kick off, Georgia collected the ball from Nikki and
ran at the Northwood defence only to be halted by the referee’s
whistle for half time. The second half kick off lined up with Shianne, Nicole, Renata, Georgia, Charlotte, Olivia and Daisy. Some brave battling from
Georgia who took no notice of the size of the opposing defence helped
her team to add four more goals in the second half through Nicole,
Renata (2) and well deserved goal for herself. Shianne did
some good covering work supported by Olivia. Northwood Girls had
two chances but Daisy was equal to their challenge and kept a clean
sheet. The second half was
very much in Spurs Ladies favour as they collectively outplayed their
opponents The team showed no signs
of rustiness after their Christmas break and put a good display of
determination that will make their coach proud. I’m sure everyone will
agree, the player of the match must be Georgia. Ricardo Inniss |

Another wet and muddy day to test the Spurs
Ladies, who attacked from the start attack with Taylor O'Leary, Nicole
Bailey and Nikki Hunnable putting pressure on the Hatfield defence.
Nicole broke the deadlock after nine minutes and two minutes
later she finished well to make it 0-2.
Taylor put in her usual battling performance in attack and
defence. Good defence by
Shianne St. Louis and Olivia Keown halted any chances of an attack from Hatfield in the
first fifteen minutes and Tottenham's adventurous passing pushed
Hatfield back, resulting in the well-deserved twenty-first minute goal
for Taylor that brought the Spurs tally to 0-3. Some half time changes brought fresh legs
into the Spurs side with Taylor doing some good covering work in the
middle and made so good passes to Renata Inniss and Phoebe Ogunwobi, who both shot wide
or over the cross bar on three occasions. The Hatfield attack was
stronger in the second half, but was unable to trouble the Spurs
goalkeeper. The closest Hatfield came to scoring was from a run down the
left wing with a low shot at goal but it ended up wide of the Spurs
goal. Fifteen minutes into play and Phoebe took
advantage of the Hatfield goalkeeper’s mistake to put Spurs 0-4 ahead. The remainder of the match saw some good passing and battling
by Spurs without adding to their score line, but maintained their fifth
successive clean sheet. Collin Bruce |

A hastily arranged 8-a-side friendly of
three 20 minute periods against Orient saw Spurs Under-11s given a good
test against some older girls. Four minutes of the game had passed when a through ball was converted by the Orient striker Aimee Rose, the same player who was denied on three more occasions by brave interventions by keeper Daisy O'Sullivan. Another Orient attack saw a header hit the bar in the eighth minute and in the next attack, Daisy dived to push a shot onto the goalpost and out. A fierce shot in the 12th minute did beat O'Sullivan to give Orient a 2-0 lead, but the Spurs keeper was in action straight after with a fine double save and then grab the ball before the strikers could seize on the loose ball. Spurs had struggled to get into the game, but managed to break out through Nikki Hunnable to bring the Leyton keeper into action with a save. Rose was the thorn in Tottenham's side in the sixth minute of the second period with another strike to give Orient a 3-0 lead, but this was not before Georgia Bruce had hit a shot over the bar following good work from Hannah Lyons and Nicole Bailey in the build-up. Daisy was on her toes to make a good diving save from a long shot and then jumped up to grab the ball as it was heading for the goal-line. Spurs made a dent in the score-line in the 17th minute of the second period, when Phoebe Ogunwobi chased a ball down the right hand side and ripped a shot into the roof of the net leaving the keeper helpless. The third and final period of twenty minutes saw Spurs match the Orient girls and Phoebe brought a fine stretching save from the O's keeper from her cross-shot and Nikki also brought a dive from the goalie with a shot on the turn. Cruelly, the visitors grabbed a fourth goal in the last minute, with a close range finish to make the final score 1-4. The Tottenham girls put in a fine display with a lot of effort and some very good passing, so it was disappointing that the final score did not truly reflect the way the game panned out. |

Spurs Ladies lined up to face the Vixens
with a strong line-up. Some strong battling down left wing from Hannah Lyons ended with a through ball to Taylor O'Leary, which saw Spurs go one up in the first two minutes of the game. Five minutes later Renata Inniss added two more goals to make the score line 0-3. Relentless pressure from Spurs, mostly from Hannah, forced an own goal by a Stevenage player to make the score line 0-4 in the 9th minute of the game. After 15 minutes, Phoebe Ogunwobi and Ayse Mustafa substituted for Renata and Taylor and within three minutes on the field, Phoebe had netted two goals followed by another two in the next ten minutes. Hannah and Ayse bombarded the Stevenage
goal with plenty of shots only to find them saved by the keeper and the
wrong side of the goal post. By
the half time whistle, Spurs were cruising on a 0-8 lead. From the second half kick off, Ayse robbed the Stevenage attack and put a through ball to Phoebe, who threaded the ball to Nicole to net for 0-9. Spurs were mounting some good breaks with good passing, with great team-work being rewarded after ten minutes of the second half by the unstoppable Phoebe who collected her fifth goal. Renata and Taylor came on for Nicole and Hannah after 15 minutes of the half. Straight away Renata and Taylor added to the Spurs tally to make it 0-12. Shianne St. Louis and Harley Keenlyside thwarted any hopes of Stevenage getting consolation goals and in the last five minutes of the game Phoebe and Taylor extended the Spurs score line to 0-14. To the very end Spurs were on the attack
through Ayse who saw the Stevenage produce a good save to deny her a
goal on the day. Some solid defending and support by all
the Spurs players meant that at the final whistle, Spurs had kept
another clean league game sheet. Ricardo Inniss |

And the Spurs Ladies go
marching on !!
It took ten minutes into the first half before Spurs showed any signs of penetrating the Cougars defence, but then two goals in two minutes from Phoebe Ogunwobi put Spurs ahead before Renata Inniss and Olivia Keown substituted Shianne St Louis and Ayse Mustafa. With just her second touch of the ball, Renata Inniss increased the goal tally to 0-3 and a minute later Charlotte Dean added the Spurs fourth. Goalkeeper Daisy
O’Sullivan had only one touch of the ball, because of the Spurs solid
defence and support from their team members. Spurs kept possession
of the ball well and in the 23rd minute their passing skills produced a
fifth goal through Charlotte Dean. Spurs started the second half in an attacking mood, which saw their defence attacking the Cougars on many occasions. Shianne St Louis had a few shots at goal herself before returning to her role in defence. In the space of eleven
minutes Spurs extended their lead to 0-8 through Charlotte Dean, Georgia
Bruce and Renata Inniss. The
Cougars tried to mount an attack but was stopped in their tracks by
Shianne St Louis, with Harley Keenlyside coming on in defence for Olivia
Keown and Phoebe Ogunwobi substituting Georgia Bruce. A throw in from Renata
found the feet of Ayse who squared the ball to Phoebe who slammed the
ball into the Cougars net in the 20th minute.
In quick succession, Renata and Ayse took the score 0-11, Just when it looked as
though the score was going to be a repeat of the last Spurs versus
Cougars game, Charlotte latched onto a through ball from Shianne and
netted number twelve. Ricardo Inniss |

A single goal settled this top of the table battle between Spurs and Luton at Fred Knights in wintry conditions. The early indication that
Tottenham would attack the visiting defence proved to be correct, but
for all the possession that the Spurs Renata Inniss hit a shot just wide in the first minute and that set the tone for the first half. Although Daisy O'Sullivan made a good save with her feet in the seventh minute to deny the first Luton effort, Spurs put pressure on the Belles defence, which blocked two shots in quick succession as the clock came around to the quarter of an hour mark and then a couple of minutes later, Taylor O'Leary struck a fine shot that looked like it was going in until a defender got in the way. A breakaway by the visitors saw their forward twist and turn in the area before putting her shot wide of Daisy to open the scoring against the run of play. Spurs hit back from this 19th minute setback, with Taylor firing in a shot that was held at the second attempt by the keeper, although another break saw Luton crash a shot against the bar right on half-time. The second half was a different game altogether. Started in a snow storm, the cold wind made play difficult and when the weather settled down, Luton adapted better. Early on Daisy repeated her feat of stopping a shot with her feet, as all good keepers are able to do, then, when play switched to the other end, Charlotte Dean and Renata were both kept out by the keeper. On 12 minutes, it looked as though Spurs might get back into the game, when a penalty was awarded for pushing. Up stepped Nicole Bailey, who hit the shot well, but the keeper dived to save the spot-kick and then the follow-up from Taylor. In Tottenham's next attack, Nicole hit a shot through a crowd of players that flew just wide with the keeper rooted to the spot, then Daisy stood up well to save when confronted with a Luton forward through on goal. As time ran out and Tottenham tried to get something from the game, Luton broke away and hit the bar, but in one last thrust, Nicole struck a long shot just wide and away slipped the last opportunity in a closely fought match. |

Spurs Ladies started a delayed match with a
full squad and looking to win their all their remaining matches if they
are to have any chance of challenging Luton for the league title. Renata Inniss gave Spurs a vital lead after seven minutes and then ten minutes later, Nikki Hunnable latched onto a through ball from Taylor and knocked it into the back of the net as she was accustomed to in the past. There was some hard battling from the QPR
team who could have scored twice but for saves from Daisy O’Sullivan.
Spurs did well to hold onto their lead after some intermittent
lack of concentration in the defence. QPR started the second half with a more positive approach by charging at the Spurs defence with every opportunity. Shianne St Louis had to work extra hard and it was a great test of stamina for her to survive the whole of the second half. Rangers got their first goal in the first
fifteen minutes of the second half.
With one minute to go before the final whistle, Spurs failed to
clear a shot from a throw in and QPR helped themselves to the equaliser. There were some disappointed faces from
the Spurs Ladies, but that shows how expectation has been raised by
their fine performances. Nonetheless, QPR can congratulate
themselves for getting a draw in a match that seemed lost. Ricky Inniss |
