The girls made the longest journey of their
campaign to Denham on a grey day and Tottenham were quickly on the
attack with Tori Tripp passing the ball to Bobbi Cubberley, who struck
the ball with force, but it just sailed over the crossbar.
Hollie Watson, who pushed forward from
defence regularly, delivered a well struck shot towards goal, with some
pace on it. The keeper parried it down and Laura very nearly got
hold of the loose ball, but the keeper just managed to smother the shot. Tottenham weren’t having it all their
own way and the defence of Vicki Blake and Hollie had to clear a number
of balls delivered up front and keep a careful watch on the Denham
attackers. Laura
broke through a crowd of players at the other end and the Denham keeper
very bravely dived at the ball to deny Laura, who had also without fear
gone for the ball. The midfield was delivering some very
nice football, with some great passing moves between Tianna Carrington,
Tori and Charlotte McLucas. Tianna
had her own shot on goal which hit the left hand upright and bounced out
again, but Denham were still looking
for the breakthrough themselves and the girls certainly needed to be on
their toes at all times. Tori delivered a great run down the right
and squared the ball to Bobbi, who turned sharply and the shot just went
wide. Bobbi was then involved in a move when she headed down a
cross to Tianna whose shot once again was well saved by the keeper.
Tori ran at pace down the right hand
side, skillfully passing a number of players to deliver a great ball in
towards Laura, who couldn’t quite get on the end of it. You felt it was just a question of time
before Tottenham scored and thus it proved when Bobbi drilled a good
pass to Laura, who took the chance superbly to make it 1-0 after 20
minutes. Number two came a minute later when Bobbi
struck the ball towards goal and it was neatly deflected by Laura into
the back of the net. Katie
Bell had come into the attack and she tried a cheeky back heel, which
nearly beat the keeper in a goal-mouth situation.
Hollie made some solid clearances at the
back to continue to frustrate the Denham attackers, but the home
side finished the first half with a flourish and Lily-Anna Tyrimos was
called into action to produce a couple of solid saves.
Amy Woff had a chance at goal just
before the half time whistle with the ball going over the bar. Early in the second half, the great
passing and movement from Spurs continued between Katie, Laura and
Bobbi, whose final left foot shot was well saved.
The best individual goal of the day
was scored by Vicki after 35 minutes, when she picked up the ball from
defence, ran on to beat a couple of players and then ran on again, beat
some more and suddenly found herself on the left hand side of the pitch
bearing down on goal. She very coolly struck the ball firmly past the
keeper into the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Brilliant
stuff. Denham to their credit weren’t going to give up and were making the likes of Katie, Vicki and Hollie battle hard to keep them at bay. Marva Kreel came on and straight away delivered a good pass to Laura, who turned quickly and her shot just went wide. Shoshana Field came on at the back and was in the thick of it immediately. Denham had probably their best spell in the last 10 minutes of the game. Lily came out to a through ball and cleared it with her feet out of the path of the opposing attacker. All the Tottenham girls now knew they
were in a game, with Marva snapping at the opposition heels, Vicki and
Shoshana producing clearance after clearance. Lily produced at
least three solid saves. However,
Tottenham did fight back and Tori crossed a couple of balls to Amy, who
couldn’t quite beat the goalkeeper. Tori also had a left foot
shot which just whisked passed the post. A Denham player had a great shot at goal
which went like a rocket and just went over the crossbar. With
United pressing forward they started to leave gaps at the back and
Tottenham punished them when Marva crossed the ball to Bobbi who turned
sharply to score her first league goal of the season and make it 4-0
with five minutes remaining. Amy had a final shot at goal, but the score remained the same. The game was great entertainment with both sides playing good football. Denham have probably been the best side Tottenham have faced so far and their defence held firm against some real pressure, their spirit towards the end should be commended. The player of the match was awarded to Vicki, for her great work in defence and her brilliant individual goal. Well done to all. DAVID WATSON |

The game started fairly
slowly with Tottenham taking some ten minutes to start to show the sort
of form they had produced against their opponents the previous week.
Hitchin were battling hard, but were gradually being pushed back into
their own half. The first corner by Tottenham saw Bobbi Cubberley
deliver a great sweeping kick into the box which Laura Newby volleyed
really well and the shot just bounced off the cross bar and went over.
Two further corners followed swiftly afterwards and the first saw Tianna
Carrington’s shot rebound off the keeper and the second caused a goal
mouth scramble to get the ball away. Vicki Blake and Hollie
Watson were taking it in turns to push up from the back and Charlotte
McLucas was chasing the ball down when required. Vicki made
a good run from defence and nearly got through to take a shot at goal.
Following some Spurs pressure, Laura passed to Tianna whose shot was
pushed over the bar by the keeper, but the Tottenham girls were now
starting to work better with each other and Tianna had a shot on goal
after 15 minutes which nestled firmly in the back of the net to make it
1-0. Katie Bell had come on
and straight away she got down to the job of delivering high quality
passes within midfield. Hollie produced a couple of long kicks to
Laura up front to keep the Hitchin defence on their toes. Bobbi made it 2-0 after
17 minutes when she produced a blistering shot from the left hand side
of the goal, which slammed into the back of the net. The girls were now
firmly on top and Bobbi had a couple more well struck shots which were
either well saved or just went wide of the target. Goal number
three arrived with a good passing move between Bobbi on the right to Amy
in the middle who passed it on to Katie on the left and she slotted the
ball away after 24 minutes. A minute later it was
4-0 when Hollie delivered a ball down the line to Tori Tripp, who
completed a brilliant run down the right to cross an outstanding ball
into the middle, which was superbly put away by Katie on the half volley
just before half time. There was some good
passing from the second half kick off and there was a good move
involving Tori, who crossed the ball just saw Bobbi’s shot go wide.
The match had evened out and Gerry took the opportunity to try some new
combinations of players and give the whole squad a work out. Amy
Woff had a good run down the right hand side and her shot just went wide
of the target. Hitchin had a shot on
goal when their attacker, who had been marshaled well for most of the
game, burst through the defence on the right and Lily-Anna Tyrimos
produced a solid save. Marva Kreel entered the action and got
stuck in straight away. She maybe small, but she was twisting and
turning with panache and Hitchin certainly knew she had arrived.
Laura then had a shot saved following another goal mouth scramble. Marva picked up the
ball on the right and weaved past a couple of players. She then
delivered a great ball towards Laura, who, like a panther, pounced on
the ball and dispatched it past the keeper. It was a great
poacher's goal after 37 minutes to make it 5-0. There were some good passing moves between Tianna, Charlotte and the rest of the midfield. Charlotte made a good run down the right and struck a nicely timed shot which just went wide of the post. Laura had another shot saved by the Hitchin keeper who had played well all day, with her defence. The final score was 5-0 and Hitchin had certainly done themselves proud with there battling spirit. Whilst there were a number of potential players of the match, Marva gained this accolade which was a very popular choice, well done to all. DAVID WATSON |

This was always going to be a close game and
so it proved to be. When the teams last met for the corresponding
fixture last season it was a draw and this time only one goal separated
the two teams. It was a fast a furious start with both teams getting stuck in straight away and long balls were being delivered by Garston for the tall defence of Hollie Watson and Vicki Blake to deal with them accordingly. Hollie made some good clearances from the back and Garston were having the best of the earlier encounters in midfield. Lily-Anna Tyrimos made a positive kick
out from goal with Garston attackers bearing down on her and further
forward Bobbi Cubberley delivered a long range shot at goal which the
keeper watched carefully. Charlotte McLucas was also battling hard
in midfield and was making some positive runs backwards to assist the
defence and keep the danger way. A half chance came when Tianna
Carrington, delivered a good ball to the feet of Laura Newby up front
who couldn’t quite turn quickly enough before the Garston keeper had
cut down the angle and was straight on top of her. The Garston
defence were also working hard and Laura and Bobbi had their hands full
up front, trying to find a way through. Garston’s number three
had a half chance when she sent a shot across the goal, with Hollie on
her shoulder and Lily watching it carefully. Vicki was battling hard as she tried to push up from the back, with assistance from Charlotte and Tianna. The girls weren’t closing down the opposition as much as they should and that was causing the pressure in midfield and the defence. Tottenham were starting to get on top and Hollie delivered a long ball to Bobbi who twisted and turned beating a couple of players but couldn’t quite deliver the final shot. A few minutes later Bobbi had another
shot which went over the top and Tori Tripp who had come on as a
substitute started to make her presence felt, with her pace.
Garston had a corner and this was well saved by Lily at the near
post. Towards the end of the first half Charlotte made a good run
up on the right but couldn’t quite find the final shot. The girls knew they had to close down the
opposition and make their presence felt as they started the second
half. The breakthrough came within a minute of the restart when a
ball was passed to Katie Bell on the right who flicked it on with the
outside of her boot, the ball spiralled into the air, bounced over the
keeper’s head and as if in slow motion crossed the line. Tottenham now started to apply further pressure on Garston, but to be fair they also battled back and Hollie had to deliver some important and focused tackles at the back, with Vicki. Tori did break through the middle and the opposition keeper just got to the ball before Tori could strike. Spurs were pushing Garston back and Katie was passing the ball between herself, Tori and Laura up front. However, Garston started to get back into the game once again and Lily saved a solid shot, with Hollie having her hands full with the opposition striker. Charlotte was having a great battle with the Garston number 7, who was one of their key play makers in midfield. Tori delivered an excellent cross to Laura whose shot just hit the side netting and when the ball then went down the other end, Lily saved a long range shot from Garston. It was end to end stuff and the Garston defence managed to scramble the ball away after a great corner kick from Charlotte, then Tianna had come back on and was battling away hard in midfield, showing her blistering pace from time to time. Charlotte had a shot which was pushed wide, she then followed it up with a great corner which Laura reacted well to, but just couldn’t quite find the back of the net. Bobbi had a couple of shots at the end
which just went wide of the mark and the final whistle blew. It
was a closely fought contest and both sides produced some good football
which was played at a high tempo. The Garston crew were well
organised and disciplined, but Tottenham just had the edge on the day. Player of the match went to Charlotte who was back to her best, battling in the midfield. Well done to the whole Spurs team who showed determination and worked hard for the win.

After the warm weather all week, it was a
relatively cold day with an early kick off on a well maintained but
soggy pitch.
Both sides started steadily as they were
getting used to the conditions. Tianna Carrington made the first
challenging run down the left hand side and that was quickly followed by
a shot from Vicki Blake who had pushed up from defence. Bobbi Cubberley passed a great ball
to Laura Newby up front who volleyed the ball, which just went
wide. This was followed a few moments later by a similar move and
this time Laura’s shot from the Bobbi pass was well saved by the
keeper. Tottenham weren’t having all their own
way and Hollie and Vicki were both strong in defence. Luton nearly
scored when a shot was scrambled away by Lily-Anna Tyrimos after a Luton
free kick. Spurs
started to pass the ball around more and there was a good move from
Charlotte McLucas to Tianna to Laura, ending with Tianna having a shot
at the goal which was cleared by a Luton defender. Tottenham however was applying a lot of
pressure and the first break through came when Charlotte struck the ball
firmly from just inside the box to make it 1-0 after 10 minutes.
The girls continued to push forward,
with Hollie picking up the ball from an attackers feet and running down
the right, Tianna was creating some space on the left. Laura had a good chance when she broke
through following an excellent turning movement, but couldn’t quite
beat the keeper. The
same striker was involved in goal number two after 18 minutes when she
delivered a long throw to the feet of Vicki, who ran on at pace and
delivered the ball past the keeper from the left hand side of the pitch. The shots were now raining in with
Charlotte having a shot deflected by a defender and Tianna’s shot
going wide of the post. There was some lovely passing moves
involving Amy Woff, Tori, Vicki and Tianna and goal number three came
about when Tori Tripp broke through after 22 minutes. This was how
the first half finished. The girls came out for the second half
with the bit between their teeth and Amy had a shot which went wide of
the post. At this stage of the game, Amy and Tori were linking up
nicely on the right hand side and Tori had a couple of shots on target
which were well saved by the keeper. To their credit the Luton
defence were under constant pressure, but continued to battle away, with
all their might. Hollie
had a free kick which was well saved by the keeper, who was getting
better and better. The next breakthrough came after constant
pressure when Laura turned sharply after a pass and walloped the ball
past the keeper with 35 minutes on the clock. Indeed, Laura was on fire
at this point and struck her second goal past the Luton keeper two
minutes later to make it 5-0. Gerry made a couple of substitutions at
this point and Shoshana Field came on to go into defence and Marva Kreel
went into the midfield. Both got stuck in straight away, with
Shoshana clearing some dangerous attacks and Marva being up-ended as she
battled away. Bobbi was creating some good movement on
the right and Amy had a shot which just went wide of the target.
Once again there was some excellent passing between Tori, Amy and Marva
who had one of her shots well saved by a number of defenders who were on
the goal line. However, Luton weren’t finished and managed to put Tottenham under a lot of pressure, Vicki was doing a sterling job on the left and Shoshana was battling hard on the right. Bobbi had a shot which bounced of the keeper and was just kicked away from a Spurs attacker in time. Amy had a shot which hit a defender and bounced off the post. All the girls continued to battle hard, up to the final whistle. Player of the match was awarded to Amy, who had played very well and was unlucky not to score. Luton to their credit never gave up and overall it was an enjoyable and entertaining game. DAVID WATSON |
