Herts. Girl's Football League

The 5th of November was the right day to play this fixture, with both teams unbeaten up to this point in the season and yes you have guessed it, there were plenty of explosive moments and fireworks at both ends !!

Before the game started, Spurs nearly had another supporter when Ann Field starting having contractions, but they settled down and the game began.

The first attack was from Tottenham who weren’t afraid to get stuck in straight away.  Enfield suddenly found that this was going to be a very different match to those they had strolled through before.  A free kick was awarded on the edge of the Enfield box and Hollie Watson stepped up to blast the ball through the wall and the keeper managed to parry it away for a corner.

The midfield of Bobbi Cubberley, Tori Tripp and Charlotte McLucas were closing the Enfield midfield down quickly and the defence of Hollie and Vicki Blake were containing the Enfield attack from breaking through.  It was end to end stuff and both teams were battling very hard to find a way through.  Laura Newby was darting around up front, looking for the through ball to get onto.

Tottenham found the break through after 15 minutes when Vicki delivered a high ball towards the goal, which the keeper grabbed, but fell back into the goal to make it 1-0 to Tottenham.  Enfield were stunned by this and Spurs started to pile on more pressure.  Tori  delivered a through ball to Laura who couldn’t quite manage to get her shot away past the keeper.  There was further good interaction between Tori and Laura, but neither could find the back of the net.

It was very nearly two nil, when Tori let fly with an excellent shot just outside the area, the Enfield keeper produced a great save to push the ball over the bar.  Tottenham continued to press on from the resultant corner, but the ball just wouldn’t drop kindly for the attack.

Enfield made some substitutions and mixed up the format to try something different.  Charlotte was marking their no. 14 carefully who had obviously caused previous teams problems with her height and strength, Tottenham continued to contain her, but Enfield did break through in the guise of their no. 7 who flew down the left hand side and had her shot on goal well saved by Lily-Anna Tyrimos.  Hitting back Vicki made another good run up on the left hand side, but couldn’t quite deliver the ball into the middle, just before half time.

The second half started tightly and both sides weren’t giving an inch. Vicki and Hollie were undertaking some brilliant defending at the back and the whole Tottenham side was playing it’s heart out.  Bobbi delivered a great ball through and the keeper just got to it a fraction before Laura, who was going at full tilt.  A moment later Bobbi passed the ball across the Enfield area to Tori who had a shot which just went wide of the mark.

Spurs were dealing with the Enfield attacks, but were working very hard to do so and Lily saved another shot well, getting her body right behind the ball.  The Tottenham team were containing Enfield and whilst they were constantly pushing forward, they couldn’t find a break through passed the Spurs defence in open play.

However, Enfield then won a corner after 40 minutes, the ball came across, Lily parried it away, but a goal mouth scramble ensued and an Enfield player managed to scramble the ball over the line to make it 1-1.  Spurs struck back immediately through a Charlotte run got down the other end, to put the Enfield defence under pressure.  Her shot went for a corner, the ball flashed through both sets of players and Tottenham couldn’t quite find the final finish.  Hollie and Vicki were battling hard, with Hollie carrying on after a nasty knock to her head, following a close encounter with an Enfield player.

Once again Spurs were containing the situation when suddenly the referee gave a penalty to Enfield for a deemed hand ball in the box.  Lily got her hand to the ball put the shot was too powerful and Enfield went 2-1 up.

The girls however didn’t give up, Bobbi had a shot with her left foot which just went wide and Tianna Carrington, who had come on, had a good shot saved by the opposing keeper.  Lily saved a shot from Enfield and Amy Woff had a shot which hit the side netting.  Both teams were still battling hard and Gerry, brought on Katie Bell into midfield towards the end to see if she could find the final pass required.

It was not to be and the final whistle blew.  The Tottenham girls should all be very proud of their performance.  They played with smiles on their faces, spirit and gusto and whilst the result was disappointing, they know that they will have an opportunity for the situation to be turned around when they play the return match at Enfield.

A very entertaining, if not tense and explosive match.  Well done to all and a special well done to Lily who won player of the match.  It was a difficult call as the whole team are stars.

Herts Girl's Football League - Under-11 Div. 1
These two teams had some great games last year and you just knew that this was never going to be an easy match.

Tottenham started slowly and the first few minutes saw Hemel pushing spurs back into their own half.  As always Vicki Blake and Hollie Watson were strong in defence and ensured that no one broke through the Tottenham lines.

Spurs started to settle down and some passes started to be strung together, between the defence of Hollie and Vicki, linking up with the midfield of Charlotte McLucas, Bobbi Cubberley and Tori Tripp.   It became a midfield battle and Charlotte had a shot which sped through the goal area and wide of the goal.

Hollie fired a shot at goal from within her own half which went over the top of the cross bar and she followed this up a few minutes later with a through ball to Laura Newby up front.  Despite being constantly marked by a couple of defenders,  she nevertheless managed to shake them off and the Hemel keeper saved the resultant shot.

Tori was also getting into the action and managed to break down the right hand side, when she let fly with a left footed shot which just hit the bottom of the right hand post.  Hemel were defending well and in numbers and Spurs were finding it difficult to find a quick way through.  Tottenham however continued to apply the pressure and Katie Bell was brought into the attack to develop the passing game.  Laura pushed a nice ball through to Katie in the area, who very nearly got the ball past the keeper.

Hemel Aces were still on the back foot and managed to scramble the ball away, for a corner.  Bobbi stepped up to deliver a nice ball in that was pushed out into her path, she took aim and blasted the ball into the top right hand corner of the goal from the left hand side of the pitch, after 22 minutes to make it 1-0.

Hemel tried to apply pressure down the Tottenham end but Hollie and Vicki continued to mark the strikers out of the game and Lily-Anna Tyrimos, had in effect little to do in the first half.

Spurs started brightly in the second half with Vicki taking the ball up on the left hand side of the pitch to secure a corner.  Bobbi made a good pass to Amy Woff, who had come on for the second half and she returned the compliment, with Bobbi’s shot being turned around the corner by the Hemel keeper.  Tottenham continued to pile on the pressure and a Hemel player handled the ball in the area, following a corner.  Bobbi stepped up to take the penalty, but the Hemel keeper saved the spot-kick with her feet.

A few moments later Bobbi had another shot which went over the bar.  Laura also got into the action with a shot which was saved by the opposition keeper.  Amy was doing well in the midfield, battling well to keep the pressure on the opposition and Charlotte made some good moves and had a shot on goal which went wide.

It very nearly became two nil, when Bobbi floated in a good corner, which Vicki headed towards goal and one of their defenders just managed to block it.  On a break, Amy delivered an excellent through ball to Charlotte which split Hemel wide open and her shot just flashed wide of the post.  Laura had another shot on goal from 15 yards out and it was well saved by the Hemel keeper who was having a good game.  One of the final moves of the game saw a corner come in and Bobbi’s shot fly over the bar.

Both sides had done well and whilst Hemel hadn’t had one shot on target, they had battled hard, defended well and made sure that Tottenham could never relax.  The Tottenham girls had worked hard, created some good chances and always looked comfortable in defence.  The midfield had a good game and Laura had battled well on her own up front.  The player of the match was awarded to Bobbi, who had scored a cracking goal and was back to her old best self.  Well done all.

Herts. Girls Football League Cup - Group A
The day was misty, with the last signs of an early morning frost on the ground as the girls embarked on there first match of the League Cup campaign.

It was an even start, with both sides testing each other out, although it only took four minutes to shatter the silence as Amy Woff passed the ball at speed to Bobbi Cubberley, who crossed the ball into the penalty area and Laura Newby delivered the ball into the back of the net.

Goal number two came shortly afterwards when Amy crossed the ball for Bobbi to smash the ball into the goal, with her left foot.

Tottenham weren’t having it all their own way and Shoshana Field and Vicki Blake were making sure that the defensive line held firm.  The Hemel keeper made a good save from a Laura shot who had received a good through ball from Bobbi.   After eight minutes it was 3-0, when Bobbi delivered a pass to Laura, who also managed to score her second goal with her left foot this time.

One minute later and Amy had scored her first of the day when she had tackled determinedly, won the ball, run on down the right hand side and let fly with a shot which beat the keeper.   Charlotte McLucas was busy in the midfield, making sure that the Hemel Hempstead players were being pinned back in their own half.

Amy had another shot on goal, which hit the side netting.  Manager Gerry decided to bring on some new faces and Katie Bell and Marva Kreel entered the arena to take part in an attacking corner.  Bobbi floated the ball in nicely and Katie, with her first kick of the game, beat the keeper at the near post to make it 5-0.

Shoshana was battling away at the back and made sure that when danger appeared she had it covered.   Amy delivered a nice pass to Marva whose resultant shot was saved by the opposition keeper.   Katie then made a lovely pass on to Amy, who took aim and delivered a cracking shot with some real venom, which hit the left hand post and unfortunately just bounced away.

The sixth goal came when Bobbi delivered another lovely corner, which split open the Hemel defence and Vicki produced an excellent volley to make it 6-0 after 15 minutes.   She followed that up a few minutes later with a run from the back, which resulted in her final shot hitting the side netting.

Tianna Carrington had joined the show and she produced a nice pass to Katie, whose shot just went wide.   Hemel were under a lot of pressure and following Amy’s cross, a defender blasted the ball against her own cross bar, it bounced out and Katie was on it like a panther to put the ball away and make it 7-0 after 22 minutes.

The final goal of the first half came when Tianna picked up the ball seconds after the re-start, made a beeline for goal and beat the keeper to make it 8-0.   Hemel to their credit continued to push Tottenham back and were playing some nice football.

In the second half, whilst Spurs were camped in the Hemel area, they couldn’t find the back of the net, with the Hemel keeper saving a couple of shots from Katie and Tori Tripp who had come on at half time.   Tori was causing some real problems for the Hemel defenders down the right with her pace and she had another shot saved by the keeper.   Hollie Watson who had come on for the second half delivered a long ball up to Marva, but she couldn’t quite get on the end of it.   There was some excellent interplay, between Tianna , Tori, Marva and Katie but despite a number of chances they couldn’t quite find the final finish.

Tori finally broke the goal drought of the second half after 40 minutes when Marva produced a nice through ball, which Tori ran on to and side-footed it passed the keeper.

Marva had a shot on goal, soon after, but it just went wide.  Amy came back on and nearly had a goal early on, but the keeper just got to it first.   Amy did however score her second after the corner had shot through the box and she blasted it into the back of the net to make it 10-0 after 42 minutes.

Her best and third goal came when Amy found herself on the edge of the box, she cut the ball back from a pass, took aim and the ball shot at speed into the top right hand corner, after 43 minutes, making it 11-0.   Lily-Anna Tyrimos who had been in goal for most of the game, swapped over with Shoshana, to come out on pitch and she got stuck in straight away.  She had a shot on goal from a Tori cross, which the keeper saved.

The last goal of the game was created when Tori crossed to Marva, who flicked the ball back to Tianna, who blasted the ball into the goal to make the final score 12-0.

The Spurs girls had played very well and it was an excellent opportunity to give the whole squad a chance to have a run out.  Nothing should be taken away from Hemel Hempstead girls who battled really hard throughout the whole match and to their credit never gave up.  Player of the match was awarded to Shoshana for her great job in defence. Well done to all concerned.

Herts. Girl's Football League
It was a cold and blustery day, with the sun appearing from time to time.  The game started sharply and within the first minute, Tianna Carrington had unfortunately suffered a couple of cuts on her knee from a crunching tackle and had to go off injured.

The match resumed and Tottenham immediately started to apply the pressure on the opposition defence.  The girls were moving the ball around nicely and won a corner within the first few minutes.  Despite a good cross into the box by Bobbi Cubberley, no one could get on the end of it.

Stevenage were trying to push forward, but some strong defending and robust clearances by Hollie Watson and Vicki Blake kept the pressure placed up the other end. Stevenage's play maker No7 was being watched carefully by Charlotte McLucas and Spurs continued to push forward.   Despite the possession the girls weren’t able to find a way through to make the final pass or a clear shot on goal.  The first chance came after approximately 15 minutes when Bobbi passed to Tori Tripp, whose shot was well saved by the keeper.   That was followed up a few minutes later by Vicki who had pushed up from defence and she had a couple of shots at goal, which didn’t quite find their way to the target.

Bobbi had a shot on goal from the right and Laura Newby very nearly got to the rebound, but the keeper very bravely dived forward and retrieved the ball.   Amy Woff, who had come on for Charlotte, had a shot on goal which unfortunately went over the top and she followed this up a few minutes later, with another shot following a corner, but once again Tottenham were denied by the keeper and you started to feel that it was going to be one of those days.

The girls however were playing some lovely football, passing with confidence and accuracy, but couldn’t quite breakthrough the Stevenage team who had six players behind the ball constantly.  Lily-Anna Tyrimos in goal had very little to do in the first half, but Tottenham were unable to capitalise on all the pressure and they went into the half time 0-0.

Stevenage came out of the blocks quickly and the defence of Hollie and Vicki, had to do some quick thinking and guide the ball away.  Hollie was able to deliver some very powerful clearances well into the opposition’s area, which Laura was then battling to get on the end of.

Tottenham very nearly scored, when Bobbi pushed forward, delivered a good ball to Laura, whose shot went under the keeper’s body and a Stevenage defender somehow managed to clear it off the line.  The girls were pushing forward constantly, but weren’t having any joy or indeed luck.   However, this suddenly changed when Laura found some space and scored a well deserved goal after 35 minutes to make it 1-0.

The girls were now looking for number two and the pressure started again.  Stevenage suddenly started to fight back and one of their players let a shot fly, it bounced in front of Lily who half parried it away, the ball bounced, hit the outside of the left hand post and went forward, where it was cleared away. This was a wake up call for the girls and they went forward again.

This time Hollie moved forward on the right, let fly with a looping shot, which the keeper dropped, but just managed to grab it again, before Laura could bury it away.  A minute later a Bobbi, had a shot, which went under the keeper who just managed to turn around and dive on it again, before it crossed the line.  Bobbi was at it again, shortly afterwards when she let fly with a shot which beat the keeper’s outstretched hands, but just went over the bar by a fraction.

To be fair to Stevenage they continued to battle and once again were now starting to put the defence under some pressure.  One girl broke through, but Hollie very quickly was on her and managed to make sure her shot went no where near the goal.  Vicki with Charlotte also was making sure that the back line held firm against some darting runs.

Spurs however weren’t finished themselves and a great run from Tori on the right, crossed an excellent ball to Bobbi, who couldn’t quite turn it round in time.   With a minute left, Stevenage had a corner and they pushed everyone forward.  The ball broke and three Spurs attackers came away with the ball, heading towards the goal with only the keeper to beat, but she bravely and brilliantly darted down the pitch and managed to tackle Tianna with the ball, as the whistle sounded, to save a certain goal.

Stevenage played very well, especially their keeper who kept them in the hunt throughout the match.  Spurs had most of the possession, but couldn’t quite capitalise on it today, however they played some lovely football and the passing goes from strength to strength.  Player of the match was awarded to Bobbi, who had been in Wales all week, but still had enough energy to run all over the pitch and make her presence felt at both ends of the pitch.  Well done to all concerned for this entertaining game.
