The Blues
turned in another very good performance, in what turned out to be a
comfortable 6-0 victory against a spirited Garston side.
Putting the disappointment of last weeks 9-2 reverse to the THLFC Whites
behind them, the Blues went out and played their natural passing game,
with Poppy Bennett and Karla Simpson looking assured at the back, while
Christie Page, Tara Sandford and Xelia Mendes-Jones pulled the strings
in the middle with Emma Tammaro leading the line.
Spurs
were soon to go ahead when Xelia slotted neatly home to make it 1-0.
The second goal, a Garston own goal came from a scramble in the Garston
penalty area, with Maya Vio applying the pressure, forcing the Garston
error for the own goal.
Emma
made it 3-0 direct from a corner, when she drilled in a low hard cross
that managed to beat the keeper at the near post and had already crossed
the line before Christie got a toe on it.
The
half time whistle blew and the Blues were looking good for their lead.
The girls were encouraged to keep up the momentum and take the game to
Garston in the second half.
Further goals were to come in the second half, courtesy of Maya with two
and another from Tara, to take the scores to 6-0. With every one
of the players featuring in this game and substitute appearances from
Tyra Poole in goal coming on for Danielle Charles along with Georgia
Fairs and Shannon Shacklock, who also made a telling contribution to an
entertaining game.
Player
of the match was awarded to Xelia Mendes-Jones who is beginning to
establish herself in the team and on this performance looks like she’s
been playing far longer than the three games she’s been involved in so
far this season.
