The Under 11 Whites slipped
to a 0-1 defeat against Denham United on Saturday in their opening HCGFL
match.
Although Spurs played some attractive football and had the greater
amount of possession, we were unable to create enough chances in the
last third and got caught with Denham United goal.
Rachel Hands making her debut for this team was the Spurs Player of the
Match, as she was strong throughout.
Manager Glenn Weaver said, "It is important for the girls to know that
last year's Treble counts for nothing moving forward. Teams will
play at 200% to beat us and we need to up our game." |

The first of the Spurs derby
fixtures in the Under 11 Division took place on Thursday with the Under
11 Whites coming out 9-2 winners.
After a close first half, the physical and direct nature of the Whites
game put them in control.
Spurs goal came Hannah Fenton Burgess bagged four goals, with two goals
hauls for Tia Fogarty and Rachel Hands. The other Spurs goal coming from
Isabella Rueben-Crompton.
Manager Glenn Weaver said, "It was generally a better performance that
at Denham on the previous Saturday but there is still room for
improvement with general passing/marking. Teams have improved around us
and we need to up our game at the same time."

The Under
11 Whites made heavy weather in achieving a 2-1 victory over local
rivals Enfield Town in the HCGFL on Saturday.
Spurs opened the scoring as early as the 12th second when Hannah
Fenton-Burgess hit a high shot which the Enfield keeper could only parry
into the roof of the net. Although Spurs continued to have the majority
of possession in the first half, the final ball into the box lacked
quality.
Spurs again started the second half strongly and a powerful run by
Rachel Hands saw her put Spurs 2-0 up in the 35th minute. Enfield
got back into the game when a free-kick beat goalkeeper Kitty Chapman,
but in the last 10 minutes Spurs put pressure on the Enfield goal, but
the majority of moves broke down on the edge of the Enfield penalty area
could not break through again.
The Spurs Player of the
Match was Jenny Hunnable for her excellent defensive work.

The Under 11 Whites came
from behind to secure a close 4-3 victory over Luton Town Belles on
Saturday.
Luton took the lead in the early stages, but Spurs hit back with a
double before the break through Hannah Fenton-Burgess and captain Emma
Lee.
Spurs pressed forward at the start of the second half and it was again
Lee and Fenton-Burgess who were on the score sheet before Luton bagged
two goals in the closing stages and pushed Spurs all the way.
Manager Glenn Weaver said, "A really good game of football from probably
the best 2 top teams in the Division. We played some good attacking
football throughout but we need to defensively as a unit get tighter
over the coming weeks."

After falling behind early
on in this HCGFL fixture at Denham United after a defensive mix up,
Spurs dominated large periods of the game without making the most of
their possession.
It took a Rachel Hands goal, scored from a Spurs corner, to draw the
scores level.

London Youth FA Under-11 Cup -
First Round |
The Under 11 Whites secured
the narrowest of victories when they defeated the Under 11 Blues 1-0 in
the London Youth FA Cup.
In a game where there were goalmouth scrambles, near misses, balls
hitting the woodwork, it took a goal from an in-swinging corner from
Isabella Rueben-Crompton 15 minutes from time to separate the two
sides.
Tia Fogarty was the U11 Whites Player of the match for her efforts in
goal standing in for Kitty Chapman.
Manager Glenn Weaver said, "It was a shame that this game couldn't have
been the final. The Under 11 Blues pushed the Under 11 Whites all the
way which was brilliant after losing 9-2 to the same side two months
ago. The talent in this age band bodes well for the future."

The Spurs
Ladies Under 11s put up a battling performance to secure a 2-0 away
victory at Luton in the HCGFL on Saturday.
In blustery conditions, Spurs played some neat and attractive football
in the early stages, but it was Luton who had the better of the first
half chances and it needed two top class saves from Kitty Chapman to
keep the score at 0-0 at the break.
After the break, both sides battled hard, but it was Spurs who took the
lead with 10 minutes to go when Rachel Hands fired home after a Luton
defensive lapse. In time added on, Hannah Fenton Burgess doubled
Spurs lead.
Credit to both sides for a fantastic game played in a great spirit.

Spurs started strongly and went ahead after eight minutes when Rachel
Hands struck a well timed shot low into the bottom corner of the goal.
Crystal Palace came back strongly after the break and levelled the
scores with 10 minutes remaining.
The game went to extra time with opportunities for both sides, but it

The Spurs Ladies Under 11
Whites played some neat, controlled football in beating Enfield Town
Ladies A in the HCGFL.
Spurs started strongly and it was Rachel Hands who popped up to hook the
ball home in the early stages. Tia Fogarty added another for Spurs just
before the break.
In the second half, Spurs continued to have most of the possession and
it was Tia Fogarty who fired home in the top corner of the goal after a
mazy run for her second of the game.
Manager Glenn Weaver said, "It was pleasing to see the girls continue to
play some great build up football and also to be confident on the ball.
I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the girls move up to 11-a-side
football next year."

The third of the U11 Whites
v. U11 Blues games opened their start of 2008 fixtures on Saturday at
Fred Knights.
With the Under 11 Blues slightly under strength, the U11 Whites put on
the early pressure but were kept at bay largely by the efforts of
Daniela Charles in the Blues goal. However, after 15 minutes,
Isabella Rueben-Crompton put Spurs ahead from a free-kick.
In the second half of the game, the U11 Whites continued to set the pace
and added further goals from captain Emma Lee and Rachel Hands.

With the Frederick Knights
Sports Ground being totally waterlogged, Hitchin Town Belles offered to
host this fixture at very short notice.
Spurs continued their form of recent weeks and in the 10th minute,
Rachel Hands put them ahead with a well driven shot from just outside
the area. Just before the break, some neat build up play saw
captain Emma Lee strike a low shot past the Hitchin goalkeeper.
The second half belonged largely to Tia Fogarty whose determined running
saw her bag a well earned hat-trick, with the other Spurs goal being
scored by Hannah Fenton-Burgess.
