The Tottenham Ladies
Under-11 Whites were at Fred Knights again today to face the QPR
Under-11 Reds.
Having played this
team already this season, the girls knew that they were in for a tough
game and from the kick off QPR started the stronger, although Maisie
Ryan and Isabel Philips fought hard and weathered the storm and started
to get the ball quickly out to the midfield of Shania Mogridge, who
continued brightly after her brilliant game last week, Sydney Fairs, who
was outstanding today making strong tackles all over the pitch and Tayla
Stapleton another player who as shone in recent weeks. Mia Farrell
looking threatening up front, but QPR was strong all over the field and
defended brilliantly.
Halfway through the
half and after yet another excellent save by goalie Lillian Irvine, QPR
were rewarded for their hard work with a goal and Spurs had to fight
hard to get back into the game. The possession evened itself out
for the last minutes of the half and the inclusion of Tegan Burling and
Fayth James brought a new dimension to the match. Tottenham 0-1 QPR
Second half, same
pattern. QPR pressed hard, but Spurs started their comeback with a
spectacular goal by persistent scorer Tayla, after what is becoming her
trademark goal of taking on and beating numerous players in the area and
finding the back of the net. 1-1 and game on.
Play continued end
to end and was increasingly looking like ending a draw, which, up to
this point, looked a fair result, but as always our girls turned on the
style and started playing the passing football that they do so well and
after sustained pressure in the QPR half, Mia Farrell’s tight angled
shot found its way past the keeper to the absolute delight of the Spurs
faithful and Tottenham were in the lead for the first time in the match
2-1.
The Whites carried
on attacking and dug in deep to play out the game as 2-1 winners.
Another well fought
win for the Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC Under-11 Whites and showed why
they were double winners last year and may I add, Haringey’s Junior team
of the year 2010 as crowned at Alexandra Palace on Thursday night.
The girls are back,
well done to all of you

Tottenham Hotspur
Ladies Under 11 Whites entertained the QPR Blues u11 team at Fred
Knights this morning.
Straight from the
kick off, the girls in the blue and white of Spurs took control, with
lovely flowing passing throughout the pitch. Fayth James, Sydney
Fairs and Tegan Burling were making tackles and winning the battle in
the midfield, getting balls up to the ever improving Tayla Stapleton,
who again was outstanding and whose shot set up Fayth to smash home from
close range on eight minutes. 1-0.
Isabel Philips and
Maisie Ryan were back to their best at the back dealing calmly with the
odd ball that made it into our half. Changes were made and after
what seemed like another one of those days for Shania Mogridge, where
she had done everything but hit the back of the net, she calmly finished
to make it 2-0 at half time.
The second half was
a different game altogether, as QPR came out fighting and started to
make chances for themselves, but the Whites upped their game again and
defended solidly, going on the counter at every opportunity and it
wasn’t long with her confidence high Shania got her second and Spurs
third to make the score 3-0.
QPR started to pass
well and gave the Spurs faithful a few scares, especially when Syd had
to make a crunching tackle in our box to stop their striker shooting
from close range. Tegan cleared from a dangerous looking corner
and Issy bulldozed her way past two QPR players to finally get the ball
clear, but relief was short lived, when after two fantastic saves by
goalie Lillian Irvine, QPR nicked one back to make it 3-1.
Almost immediately
Tottenham took back their three goal lead when Tayla chipped the
on-coming keeper, who, it must be said, was outstanding and made save
after save today. 4-1.
Spurs continued to
play as a team and Mia Farrell, who always looks dangerous running at
the opposing goal, beat her opponents and smashed home in style to
finish the game 5-1.
Although the score
was a massive win, the best part of today was the way the girls came
back from a disappointing couple of results recently and played for each
other and more importantly enjoyed their football. Players who
have been low in confidence bounced back to their battling best and it
was a pure joy to see.
Player of the match
was a toughie, as there were nine contenders, but it went to Maisie Ryan
who showed us all why she is the team's captain and was great today.
Well done girls.

Whites faced Hampstead for the first time this season this morning on
one of the postage stamp sized pitches at Regents Park.
The match started
with both teams having chances and the play went from end to end, most
of the play was scrappy and not much football was played, as both teams
cancelled each other out. Mia Farrell almost broke the deadlock,
but one of the opposition players handled in the box, this was to be the
first of quite a few controversial incidents not spotted by the ref.
Hampstead went 1-0
up from a free kick after a mass melee in our box. Spurs didn’t
take this very well and stepped up a gear with some sharp passing and
got a well deserved equalised when Tayla Stapleton beat four players in
their box (reminiscent of the great Ricky Villa ... "Who ?" I hear the
kids ask) and slotted pass the Hampstead keeper. 1-1
The second half was
much of the same with both teams not impressing and it looked like being
a draw, which was a fair result, but, with less than a couple of minutes
to go, the referee gave another soft free kick when Maisie Ryan out
muscled one of the Hampstead players. Hampstead took full
advantage of this gift and we came away 2-1 losers.
Although the girls
were not at the races today, they had an uphill struggle from the start.
Never mind girls hold your heads up high and be proud that you played
the match the Tottenham way.

The Under-11 Whites entertained a new
and unknown quantity in Enfield Town this morning at an overcast and
chilly Fred Knights. We could see we were in for a match just by
watching their warm up.
The game started and the girls
definitely knew they were in a match, when, for the first 15 minutes,
Enfield were camped in our half of the pitch and only by sheer hard work
from the girls of Spurs, were we able to weather the storm and start
threatening at the other end. Maisie Ryan and Isabel Philips
worked tirelessly to stop the tirade of shots being aimed at our goal,
Shania Mogridge done well in controlling Enfield’s very talented no 11,
Fayth James as usual worked her socks off in every position she was
needed and Sydney Fairs seemed to be everywhere putting in vital tackles
all over the place.
The opposition finally broke the
deadlock on the counter to put us in unfamiliar territory of being 1-0
down, which as only ever happened once before in the last two years, but
the Whites just carried on in the same vein for their equaliser.
Enfield almost doubled their lead when Syd came from nowhere to clear
the ball off the line after another dangerous move five minutes before
the break. Half time 0-1.
The second half started as if there had
been no break, both teams running end to end, both goalies making game
saving saves, with Lillian Irvine again outstanding and keeping us in
the game on at least four occasions. Tegan Burling and Taylor
Stapleton started to turn up the heat making killer runs up and down the
flanks, while Mia Farrell kept finding space to try to get us back in
this very exciting game.
At last after a goal mouth scramble
Taylor, who as a knack of getting vital goals when they’re needed, got
the Spurs equaliser after slotting home from a lying down position after
being tackled, but she wasn’t going to let that stop her 1-1.
Maisie Ryan finally put us on a more
comfortable footing, when she shot from just outside the box making the
score a very unnerving 2-1. Finally, after what seemed like an
hour, the ref blew up for full time and the Tottenham Under-11 Whites
kept up their unbeaten record although that was close.
PHEW, what a match !!
Mark, Mike and Dee were absolutely
delighted with the way the girls fought for the result today, every
player on the pitch gave their all and that’s why we came away with the
win. Player of the match went to a very deserving Sydney Fairs,
who today did what she does best and when she is on her game is more
than capable of the top class performance that she gave today.
Well done girls.

Today saw the Under-11 Whites make the
short trip up the road to Enfield Rangers.
Again, as in the previous season, the
Enfield Rangers manager had a small squad and had to play the game with
six players.
Tottenham started the match well and we
should have been at least three up within the first ten minutes, but
missed chances and a battling opposing defence kept the score at 0-0.
Tegan Burling started the match as she continued throughout with
constant hard work and a skilful display on the right flank, which she
was finally rewarded for with a goal 12 minutes in. The game
continued with Spurs constant pressure and with two minutes of the half
remaining Shania Mogridge scored her first of the day to allow Tottenham
to take a 2-0 lead into half-time.
The Whites set their stall out when, in
the first minute of the second half, Shania got her second after a shot
from Taylor Stapleton hit the post landing plum at Shan’s feet and she
banged it in 3-0. Almost straight away Rangers managed to get one back
after a mess mix up in our box. 3-1.
Not taking that lying down, Spurs went
straight on the attack and Mia Farrell who had been making a nuisance of
herself smashed home her first of the day to make it 4-1. The
Whites continued to terrorise the Rangers defence and Mia got her second
within minutes after a lovely pass from Taylor (5-1) and Tegan again was
instrumental in our sixth and Mia's hat-trick and also the seventh, when
she slotted in Fayth to make it 7-1 with her constant threat down that
right side. Gareth Bale didn’t have nothing on our T today.
It should have been 8-1 when Sydney Fairs
scored her first league goal, only for it not to be given for what the
ref deemed a foul on the edge of the box. I don’t know who was
more disappointed her or her dad, who was on the floor with his head in
his hands.
After a battling display throughout the
match Shania got a well deserved hat-trick to finish the game 8-1.
The defence duo of Maisie Ryan and Isabel
Philips were again virtually unbeatable and goalie Lillian Irvine didn’t
have a save to make all match, but was always alert and ready.
All the girls done well but player of the
match rightly went to Tegan who was absolutely awesome today.
Well done girls.

The THLFC Under-11
Whites were at Fred Knights to play Harvesters this morning in the HCGFL.
Matches between
these two teams are normally a close affair and today was no exception.
The game was mostly played in the opposing end of the field but that all
exclusive goal just wasn’t coming even though we went achingly close on
several occasions.
Harvesters had one
chance when their powerful centre forward shot a great ball which looked
like going over goalie Lillian's head only for her to astound everyone
with a save in which it looked like she literally grow an extra two
inches.
The girls played
well although they have played much better and the game finished 0-0 and
credit must be given to Harvesters who battled hard for the draw.
Player of the match went to Fayth James who covered at the back today
and who must be said was outstanding today and was by far our best
player.

After what can only
be described as a dubious pre-season we weren’t sure what u11 White
team was going to turn up for our first league game of the 2010-2011
season, against a very good QPR A team at Fred Knights.
Both teams started
brightly and both sides were evenly balanced through much of the half.
Maisie Ryan and Isabel Philips slipped back into their formidable
defence partnership and with what as to be said is one of the most
fearsome trios in girls football Tegan Burling, Shania Mogridge and
Sydney Fairs began to dominate the midfield, leaving Mia Farrell to do
what she does best and torment the opposing defence. Halfway through the
half changes were made with Fayth James and Tayla Stapleton slotting
into the midfield which saw some brilliant one twos between Fayth, Mia
and Taylor resulting in Fayth keeping her composure to slot home her
first goal of the season. 1-0. Tottenham were uplifted by their
lead and made sure they finished the half in front.
The second half saw
the Tottenham girls lift their game and although the QPR team fought
tooth and nail for every ball, the whites had great team spirit and
pressed for their second goal which came after another great build up
which started from deep in defence and ended after a wonderful ball
across the box from Tayla landed at a perfectly positioned Tegan who
coolly planted the ball into the back of the QPR net to go 2-0 up.
Tottenham were now
in their element and apart from a couple of late chances from the
opposing strike force which saw goalie Lillian Irvine make two
outstanding saves, Spurs were passing the ball effortlessly all over the
field.
The Whites put the
game to bed when a move which seems like included the whole team gave us
our best goal of the match which was expertly smashed home by Shania to
finish 3-0.
Manager Mark and
Coach Mike were absolutely thrilled by the girls' performance today and
went as far as to say that this was probably the best team performance
they have seen. Today’s player of the match was a hard pick as all girls
were excellent, but it finally went Lillian who without doubt just gets
better and better every week and the saves she made today were
exceptional. Well done girls.
