Played at Fred Knights

home counties girl's football league  - u12 div. 1
This game was due to be played at QPR but was re-located to Fred Knights due to QPR not having a pitch available.

Another freezing cold day at Fred Knights for the match with QPR, the game didn’t take long to get started, within 10 minutes a penalty was awarded to QPR after a foul in the penalty box.  First goal of the match to QPR.

There was again some lovely passing by the Spurs girls and great team work, which culminated in a cross from Ellis Lunn from the right, was met by Ronnell Humes and finished up in the net, to make it one apiece.  The game picked up some pace as we came to the half time whistle.

Second half started with Spurs Ladies keeping up the fast pace and there were some great attacking by the girls. With the team down to the bare eleven due to an injury to Bex Mills, the girls showed great spirit.  A long throw from QPR caught out the Spurs defence and finished in another goal to QPR, which was against the run of play.  The girls never gave up and kept the pressure up as much as possible, finally this paid off with Ronnell latching onto a great pass and finishing well after her first shot was saved by the goalie.  At 2-2 with the game looking to be a well deserved draw, when QPR broke away and after a great save from Rebecca Lane, QPR bundled in on the re-bound. To make the final score 3-2 to QPR.

This was a great game of football and Dave and the girls should be very proud of their performance.

On a chilly Sunday morning, Spurs Ladies travelled to Enfield Rangers for only our second game since Christmas.

The game started with some great passing by the girls to end with and a great shot just wide of the goal in the first five minutes.  It wasn’t long before Spurs were in possession again with a great shot from Shauna Lawless which hit the crossbar rebound to Nell Humes who scored the opening goal.  Our second goal was not far behind and came from a throw in with a great shot from Lucy Pelton.

Some fantastic passing by the team ending with a great shot from Ellis Lunn, followed quickly by a volley from Lauren Howland and a corner that ended in a lovely goal from Lara Harris.

Ten minutes into the second half and a mix-up in the Spurs defence meant Enfield clawed one back.  However, Spurs Ladies then went on to score another two goals one from Ellis and the last from Nell.

Final score 7-1 with a great performance from all the girls and some great saves by Laney.

Well done girls !!

It’s a miserable cold grey day at White Hart Lane astro-turf, but Spurs ladies were on their toes and eager to play ! (My toes were freezing though !!)

The game started off with both teams pretty evenly matched.

We saw some great passing by the Spurs girls and a great team effort.  Any attempts on goal were safely caught by Rebecca Lane with some good support from defence.  With a good couple of attempts on goal by us in the first half we finished the half the stronger side.

Second half started with only one change Lauren Howland for Rebecca Mills.

With a great save by Rebecca Lane in the first five minutes and a great shot from Nell Humes it looked like the second half was going to be just as good as the first. Again there was some great passing from the Spurs team and this was about to pay off with a great pass from Ellis Lunn to Shauna Lawless to Nell and a fantastic strike in off the post.

It looked like our passing and fitness was starting to pay off, Hampstead were starting to feel our continuing pressure, and a second goal came as Nell passed to Shauna, who passed to Ellis and a great lob over the goalie's head. The third goal came from a Hampstead corner and Spurs broke quickly following some great passing again Ellis ran on and scored – a great strike !  Ellis was then denied a hat-trick by a late off side decision followed by the final whistle.

All in all a great win for the girls and all praise to Dave for his decision to play on the astro so the girls finally got a game. Dave also ensured that everyone got enough time on the pitch which worked well. There were also some great individual performances too many to mention, but well done girls !!

Today Spurs Ladies U12s hosted their first home match of the season against QPR.

With a full team on the pitch and two subs, the game kicked off.  From previous experience when facing QPR, Spurs knew they could again be in for a rough ride but ten minutes into the first half and it looked as if Spurs were holding their own.  Managing to keep majority possession from some lovely passing between each other, and closing down, it was Spurs that were creating the chances.  The first half kept the Spurs’ parents on the edge of their seats and it turned out to be a very exciting, closely matched game.

QPR only managed to get one chance on goal in the first 30 minutes, but Isabel Murphy got the ball and parried it away, keeping the score unchanged.  Spurs were working as a team, with the defence looking strong and midfield working together across the field.  It looked as if Spurs had the chance to score a few times, but frustratingly it wasn’t to be and the half time whistle blew with the score at 0-0.

Despite being the stronger team in the first half, in a repeat of last week’s match, Spurs came back out the weaker of the two teams and QPR took advantage.  Awarded a free kick, QPR put the ball deep in the penalty area, scoring from close range, giving them the edge they needed.  This was soon followed by a penalty which doubled their score.  The Spurs girls, now starting to tire, dropped their heads and lacked their passion and confidence felt in the first half.  With five minutes left on the clock, QPR scored their third.  Spurs managed to pick themselves up and had a couple of chances, but again couldn’t get the ball in the net.

The game finished with the score at 0-3, a score which didn’t reflect Spurs’ performance today.

Despite the outcome, the Spurs girls should be really proud of the game they played.  Although still getting to know one another, and despite playing on a even bigger pitch today which didn’t phase them, they went out and played a great game of football.  Today’s captain, Rebecca Lane, was awarded Player of the Match for not only being a strong in defence but also giving her team the direction needed throughout the game.

With the arrival of the first game of the season, there are some big changes for the girls this year with new players on the team, a bigger pitch and the off-side rule to learn which meant a very different game the team lined up to play today.  After their first league game being cancelled last week, the girls were eager to get their first competitive 11-a-side game under their belt.  The Spurs Ladies Under-12s would like to welcome the following new players this year; Lara Harris, Rosa Gamble, Elle Baptiste, Lucy Pelton and goalie Isabel Murphy.

Unfortunately with two players unable to make today’s game and one lost in transit, the game kicked of with just 10 Spurs girls on the pitch.  Despite being one player down Spurs looked strong from the off and continued to dominate the game throughout the first half.  Within minutes of kick-off, Ellis Lunn was making a trademark run down the wing but couldn’t get the cross in, but won Spurs a corner.  Two shots swiftly followed from Spurs including one from Ronnell Humes which the keeper saved.  Spurs’ missing player, Elle Baptiste, turned up and completed the team and the girls continued to have majority possession resulting from some great considered passing between all the Spurs girls.

Finally following a Spurs corner and a goal-mouth scramble, newly arrived Elle got her foot to the ball and put the ball into the back of the net giving Spurs their much-deserved first goal and it wasn’t long before the next goal came following a long ball up the field from Lara which found Ellis and faced with just a one-on-one with the keeper she skipped round the keeper to put the ball in the net.  Unfortunately seconds later, despite the referee allowing it, the goal was disallowed as Ellis was off-side.  Putting their disappointment behind them, Spurs continued to play a strong game, keeping the ball firmly in Enfield’s half and Ellis still determined to make her mark, took another shot which this time was saved, shortly followed by another shot from Rebecca Lane (Laney) which was parried away.  Great defensive play was seen from Lara, Rosa and Laney and Megan Jones, all managing to easily clear any threats giving substitute goalie Lauren Howland a very quiet game.

Spurs were getting chance after chance but just couldn’t convert the opportunities into goals until finally following a pass from Laney through to Nell who burst through and scored Spurs’ second goal.

The second half started quietly for both teams with Enfield Rangers looking possibly the stronger team, with perhaps Spurs flagging in both the warm weather and the lack of substitutes.  Despite words of encouragement from today’s captain Alice Simmonds, Spurs took their time getting back into the game until Nell got on the end of a ball and fired a shot bringing the score to 0-3.

With renewed confidence and energy the girls upped their game seeing Ellis again bringing the ball up the field, but with a defender in front of her, passed to Rebecca Mills (Bex), who was playing a key part in today’s match with some lovely passing.  Bex returned the ball back to a re-positioned Ellis who then released a shot high into the goal over the keeper’s head bringing Spurs their fourth goal.  Nell completed her hat-trick scoring her third goal of the day, putting the ball over the keeper who despite getting her finger-tips to the ball, just tipped the ball over her head into the goal, bringing the score to 0-5.  Spurs sixth goal looked close when Lucy Pelton took the ball up the field and fired a shot which unfortunately went wide.  The last goal finally came from a wide shot from Ellis, following a ball again from Bex.  Ellis fired the ball across the goal out of the keepers’ reach and into the far side of the goal giving Spurs their last goal of the day.

Praise should go today to the whole team which considering it was their first competitive game together as a team, they played really well, playing some great football, putting all their recent training into action.  During the match an Enfield Rangers player was badly injured and all at Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC would like to wish her a speedy recovery.
