Spurs
Under-13 Blues continued their good run of results, although they made
heavy weather of this latest win over nine-girl Northwood.
In
the first minute of the game Yasmin Hassan had a great shot at goal that
narrowly missed, as, for the first twenty minutes of the game, Tottenham
applied the early pressure and the ball didn't leave the Northwood end
of the pitch. Becky Shephard scored in the sixteenth minute of the
match, but with Northwood only having nine players, Spurs were a little
complacent and let Northwood through in the twenty-fifth minute to score
their first goal to equalise.
With
the first half ending one all and with a good team talk, Spurs came out
in the second half looking more alert and in the thirty-sixth minute
Ruby Marlow scored Spurs second goal. Then, in the fifty-second minute,
Becky scored her second to make the score 3-1 for Spurs and three minutes
later Ruby made it four.
Shortly
after this goal, Northwood scored two quick goals through sheer
determination, but with some lovely passing and running from Lotty
Lovejoy-Crump and Stephanie Aves, the ball was back up the Northwood end
where Becky completed her hat trick with Tottenham's fifth goal.
Yasmin had the ball in the net soon after but the goal was disallowed.
Lotty
had read the ball well throughout the game and was made player of the
match.
Manager
John Goodman thought that "It
was a strange day and the game did not go all our way. We did not
take advantage of the situation and it seemed more of a hindrance
playing against nine players for us rather than for Northwood."
Both teams got off to a good start with the wind being the winner of
the ball for the best part of the game.
Harpenden scored first against the run of play, then Tayla Goodman
hit a long cross-field ball to put Becky Shephard in for a shot at
goal that the keeper saved, but the ball came out to Ruby Marlow, who
shot at goal for the keeper to save again sending the ball back to
Becky, who this time hit the back of the net for Spurs first goal in
the thirty first minute.
Good defending and goal keeping on both sides saw the first half
finish one all. Spurs seemed to lose concentration in the second half
and allowed Harpenden to score three quick goals, Spurs then came back
into the game some good runs up down the wing from Alex Robinson, who
nearly scored, then Becky scored her second goal in the sixty fifth
minute and Ruby scored in the sixty-eighth for the game to end 3-4 to
Harpenden.
Stephanie Aves, who came on for the second half, had a really good
game and was made player of the match.
Manager John Goodman thought that "after a good first half we switched
off at the start of the second and were punished with three quick
goals. We still need to stay focused and stay alert for a full
seventy minutes and not to let our minds wander in the middle of a
game."
Spurs took some time to get going in this
HGFL match, but an improved second half showing saw them take the points
at Hatfield Youth.
The game got off to a
slow start, without much action from the forwards and although there
were a few good tackles from the defence, the first half ended without
any goals.
After a good team talk, the second half was a completely different
story, with Ruby Marlow scoring in the thirty-first minute and Spurs
having the majority of possession, as Ruby scored again in the
forty-eighth minute.
A
great shot from Rosie Daly from just about on the half way line only
just missed the goal. Then, Becky Shephard took a corner that
Rosie ran up to collect, switching the ball back to Becky, who netted
Spurs' third goal in the fifty-first minute.
The
ball spent most of the second half in the Hatfield half of the pitch,
meaning the defence did not have much to do, leaving Kirsty Cunoosamy to
score in the sixty-first minute making the final score four nil to
Spurs, with Ruby being named player of the match.
Manager John Goodman said, "after a flat and non-productive first half,
the girls listened to and put into practice the half-time team talk and
came out in the second half with a more positive attitude."
The game got off to a good start with Becky Shephard scoring in the
second minute to put Tottenham ahead and then the defenders kept the
ball away from our goal and the first half finished 1-0.
In the second half Princes Park scored in the forty third minute,
but Spurs battled on well and had some near misses with both goal
keepers making some good saves, until Princes Park scored again in the
last few minutes of the game to make the final score 1-2.
All the Spurs players played a great game and were unlucky to lose
the game.
Manager John Goodman said, "The girls had a good overall game and we
could fault their commitment, but the only downside, like in many
games this season, is fitness levels, which can be worked on in
training and in the close season."
A pulsating game swung from one team's
advantage to the other's before Tottenham ran out 6-4 winners at
Northwood.
Both teams played their
part in a fascinating game that took part in a sporting spirit as the
goals flew in.
Northwood opened the scoring in the first few minutes of the game, but
Becky Shephard fired in a shot straight over the keeper to make it 1-1
in the sixth minute. The back four of Lotty Lovejoy-Crump, Rosie
Daly, Melika Edwards and Tayla Goodman were reading the play well and
this helped keep the score at 1-1 until just before half time when
Northwood scored again to take a lead into the break.
Five minutes into the
second half, Melika passed to Yasmin Hassan, who played the ball on to
Becky for her to score and make it two all, but once more, Northwood
scored to go into the lead. Forward Becky came to Spurs' rescue again to complete
her hat-trick in the 48th minute to bring the score back to 3-3.
A
long throw in from Tayla to Kirsty Cunoosamy, just outside the Northwood
penalty area, saw the ball played in to Ruby Marlow, who scored for
Spurs to put them ahead for the first time in the match. The
lead lasted less than two minutes as Northwood pegged it back at 4-4,
but, almost immediately, the ball was back in the Northwood net as our
goal machine Becky struck her fourth goal of the game and Tottenham's
fifth.
Ruby grabbed her second of
the game to put Tottenham two goals clear in the 64th minute and it was
a necessary goal, as Northwood had been good competitors in this match.
Grace Gilbey came on half way through the first half
and played a good game to be made player of the match.

Girl's Football League U13 Plate Semi-Final
With Spurs being without a game for three weeks the rustiness
showed as they started the game very slowly against First Division
opposition in the shape of Harpenden.
Most of the early action
was at the Spurs end with Harpenden having quite a few shots at
goal, but the back four and the goalkeeper managed to keep them at
bay until the 28th minute when Harpenden scored.
The Tottenham side started the second half a lot better and
played more as a team, getting a lot more possession of the ball
with Becky Shephard scoring in the 54th minute to make it 1-1.
Then Harpenden scored again in the 62nd minute to regain the lead
and after that Spurs couldn't get back in the game, meaning the
disappointment of a second semi-final defeat this season.
Rosie played with great commitment throughout the game and was
made player of the match.
The managers thought that the
first half was
disappointing, but after a good team talk at half time the girls
played better in the second half. The lack of match practice
certainly told in the early exchanges.
What a difference a week makes in football !! A fine win
over Bushey Rangers sealed a well-deserved victory in the final
league game of the season.
Spurs played well from the start
with Becky Shephard scoring in the fourth minute to give the
team an early lead. The back four defended well, with some
lovely long shots and great passes to the midfield. Yasmin
Hassan had a great shot on goal that was saved by the keeper,
then Kirsty collected the ball from a goal kick and she ran to
the edge of the Bushey penalty area where she passed to Becky,
who narrowly missed the goal with her shot.
The ball was soon back with the defence with Tayla Goodman
heading the ball and then volleying it up the pitch to Olivia,
who passed to Becky for her to score her second goal in the 24th
minute. Megan Barsby made some great saves and the first
half finished 2-0 to Tottenham.
The second half started as well as the first for Spurs with
Ruby Marlow running the ball straight up the pitch and scoring
in the 36th minute. In the next attack, the ball was with
Alex Robinson who made a great run with the ball but couldn't
quite find the net. Lotty Lovejoy-Crump won the ball in
defence and ran with it, up to Yasmin and she passed the ball
onto Ruby to net her second goal in the 42nd minute.
As Bushey put the pressure on, the ball at the Spurs end for
some time, until Rosie Daly got it away with one of her long
clearances. Ruby relieved the pressure when she had
another shot on goal that was saved by the keeper, but Bushy got
a goal back in the 63rd minute and a second five minutes later
to make the last few minutes tense, but the final score remained
4-2 to Spurs.
Tayla had a very strong game and was made player of the
match.
Manager John Goodman said, "The team played superb and deserved
the win. I could not of asked for any more and it wrapped
up a great second half of the season and this was a good high to
end the season on, well done girls."
