A much improved performance
by the Under 14s saw them gain a creditable 0-0 draw against Queens
Park Rangers in the HGFL on Sunday.
QPR started the more brightly of the two sides but Spurs soon got into
their stride and were unlucky not to go ahead in the 15th minute when a
Stavroulla Panayiotou effort crashed against the cross bar.
Spurs took the game to QPR at the start of the second half but without
creating any clear cut opportunities. QPR came back strongly into
the game in the closing stages and several hurried clearances by the
Spurs defence kept them at bay, with only a last ditch save by the
Rangers keeper to thwart Alex Small maintained a final score of 0-0.
A good sporting match, played in an excellent spirit.

Plate quarter final |
|
The Under-14s reached the
semi-final of the HGFL Plate competition with a 2-0 victory over Bedwell
Rangers.
Throughout the early stages, Spurs put the Bedwell defence under
constant pressure without showing the end product in front of goal, but
eventually went ahead after 17 minutes when a Leesa Shields corner was
nodded back across the goal by Patrizia Leo for captain Ryah Vyse to
head home.
The second half saw Spurs
continue to pressurise Bedwell for long periods but it took until the
60th minute before a left foot strike from Ryah, who was 25 yards out,
screamed into the top corner of the goal to put Spurs 2-0 up.
The nine players of
Bedwell Rangers battled from the kick off and were a credit to their
club. They made Spurs fight hard for this victory throughout.
The game was played in an a friendly spirit and refereed excellently.

The Under 14s
produced one of their best performances in defeating Enfield Town 2-1 in
the HGFL on Sunday.
After a cagey
opening 15 minutes, Ryah Vyse broke the deadlock with a sweet left foot
strike past the Enfield goalkeeper. Enfield battled back and equalise in
the 23rd minute through a momentary lapse of concentration by the Spurs
defence.
Enfield then had another
couple of good efforts just before the break that were
thwarted by the heroics of keeper Ricole Vyse.
The second
half was much like the first with both defences snuffing out any goal
scoring opportunities. With just 2 minutes left, Ryah Vyse broke into
the Enfield box and scored on the rebound after an initial good save by
the Enfield keeper.
Not the greatest game
technically but was made up by the passionate play of the Spurs side.

Herts. Girl's Football League
Plate semi-final |
|
After a
goalless first half, Spurs
produced a second half blitz as they ran out 5-0 winners against Garston
Ladies Purples in the Under 14 plate.
Spurs were made to fight all
the way in the opening exchanges and required the defence partnership of
Hoshi Cooper-Hutchinson and Shikiera Richards-Lake to
be at their best. Spurs started to apply more pressure in and
around the Garston box late in the first half without finishing off
several good chances.
Tottenham started more
brightly in the second half and soon grabbed the lead through Leesa
Shields when her corner swung into the near post deceiving the Garston
defence. The team started to play some nice free flowing football
and further goals came from Patrizia Leo, Charlie
Newson-Archer (2) and another long range effort from
Leesa Shields.
As always games
against Garston, the game was played in a good spirit and well refereed.

The Under 14's
finished off their league season with a hard earned
1-0 victory over Watford Ladies on Thursday.
Watford, who were still in
with a chance of finishing runners-up in the league, put Spurs under the
cosh during the opening period of the game, but Spurs defended
resolutely and during the last 10 minutes of the half began to gain more
time and space in the Watford half.
Spurs started the second
half strongly and were unlucky with several opportunities from Rebecca
Hunneyball and Sophie Petros.
Tottenham went ahead in the 50th minute after a sweetly struck free-kick
from 30 yards from Leesa Shields dipped in under the
Watford crossbar.
Watford again put Spurs
under pressure but Spurs held on to
continue their improved league form in 2006.

Under-14 Plate Final
Played at Harpenden Rovers FC |
|
The Under 14s
rounded off their season with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Princes
Park in the HGFL Under 14 Plate final at Harpenden on
Sunday. Princes
Park were quickest out of the blocks and put Spurs under pressure in the
opening five minutes, but from thereon in, Spurs dominated the game and
went ahead after 10 minutes with a goal from Sophie Petros.
Shortly afterwards, Spurs went 2-0 up when Ryah Vyse scored from the
edge of the box with a low skidding shot off the wet turf. Some
hard work from Alex Small and Toni Gillman gave the Princes Park defence
little time to settle and also had some opportunities to test the Park
keeper.
In the second half, Spurs
played some free flowing football through the midfield of Rebecca
Hunneyball, Ryah, Sophie and Charlie Newson-Archer and the girls were
rewarded with three further goals. The first was from Alex Small,
who broke away and cut into the area to unleash a rising shot past the
keeper. Tottenham's fourth was a well-crafted goal and a fine
finish when Bethany Scott-Hunter cut across her marker to meet Patrizia
Leo's cross with a volley past the goalie. While the Spurs defence
of Hannah Davies, Joy Dutch, Shikiera Richards-Lake, Hoshi
Cooper-Hutchinson and Leesa Shields mopped up everything that came
through on this rain-soaked match, Ricole Vyse was called upon to palm
up a shot onto he bar and over the top. The scoring was completed
by Sophie Petros' second of the afternoon with another low
drive that picked up pace off the turf to beat the keeper and secure the
Plate for Spurs Ladies against a Princes Park side, who kept going until
the final whistle.
This Spurs side have
really started to click in recent months and look forward to be
challenging at the top of the Premier Division next
season.
