The Under-14s were down to
the bare bones having only 11 fit players available for this final
pre-season friendly against the Under-15 Whites at Frederick Knights.
Without Daisy O’Sullivan in goal Rosie Kmita, Whitney Tango, Renata
Inniss and Sarah Skipper took turns in goal.
The Whites were the
quickest out of the blocks and after 15 minutes hit the post and a good
tackle by Sarah prevented the Whites from following up on the rebound.
The U14s were restricted to a couple of half chances from Whitney and
Renata in the early stages of the game.
After 22 minutes the
Whites took the lead. Clearances from Katie Mills and Harley
Keenlyside and a save from Rosie prevented the Whites from extending
their lead; however, a second goal for the Whites came on 26 minutes,
which left the U14s with the task of pulling back a 2-0 deficit.
On 28 minutes a through
ball by Nikki Hunnable was neatly finished by Whitney to reduce the
deficit to one goal. Charlotte Dean then had a chance to equalise
following a long free kick from Katie, as the U14s piled on the pressure
in search of an equaliser. Taylor O'Leary was busy in midfield
breaking up play and good running by Nikki and Laura Smith was causing
problems down both Whites flanks.
After 37 minutes a free
kick from Nikki fell to Sarah, whose shot was acrobatically cleared by a
Whites defender preventing a certain goal. Just prior to half time
Whitney fed the ball through to Molly Kmita whose shot was saved by the
keeper, and there was still time for the Whites to hit the U14s post for
a second time before the half drew to a close.
The second half started
at a slower pace than the first, which was unsurprising given the hot
weather conditions. The first incident of note came after 45
minutes when a through-ball made its way to Rosie who scored equalising
for the U14s.
There followed
half-chances and some long range shots from Renata, Laura and Charlotte
as the U14s pressed for a winner, whilst the Whites had further chances
which were either saved by Whitney and Sarah taking their turns in goal,
or flew just past the post.
On the hour a through
ball from Whitney to Renata resulted in a shot and a good save by the
Whites keeper. After 64 minutes a long ball from Rosie was chased
down by Whitney. A mazy run was followed by a shot that was well
saved by the Whites keeper once more. On 66 minutes a Whites
break resulted in a one on one with Sarah in goal, who saved what could
have been a winning goal for the Whites.
Both teams tired towards
the end due to the weather conditions, and in the case of the U14s the
lack of substitutes, and the final few minutes were played out without
event resulting in a well-earned draw for both teams.

The U14s first league came of the season
was away to Parkfield Girls - new to the HCGFL. THLFC were without Daisy
O'Sullivan, Harley Keenlyside and Siobhan Jones and therefore Renata
Inniss, Laura Smith and Shianne St. Louis took turns keeping goal.
Spurs started the game well and quickly
forced a number of corners. Ayse Mustafa, Taylor O'Leary, Rosie
Kmita, Laura, Whitney Tango and Nikki Hunnable all went close and only
some excellent saves from the Parkfield goalkeeper prevented Spurs from
scoring.
The U14s took the lead on 22 minutes
after Whitney played the ball across field to Nikki who took it round a
defender before shooting high into the net for 1-0.
At the back Katie Mills, Shianne, Sarah
Skipper and Molly Kmita were solid and Renata was on hand to tidy up any
Parkfield attacks that did manage to breach the defence. On 26 minutes
Ayse and Rosie made way for Hannah Lyons and Charlotte Dean.
Hannah was soon in the action combining with Laura and Whitney, who
forced another save from the Parkfield goalkeeper.
A second Spurs goal was on the cards and
it duly arrived after 29 minutes when a throw-in fell to Laura who took
the ball on before shooting across the keeper for 2-0. This was
the score at half-time.
The pack was shuffled at the break and
Spurs started the second half with Laura in goal, Nikki and Renata up
front and Ayse and Rosie returning to the fray in place of Whitney and
Taylor.
Much of the play at the start of the
second half was confined to midfield and the only chance of note was a
goal kick intercepted by Molly, who fed Nikki to shot just wide.
On 46 minutes Taylor replaced Charlotte and almost immediately Spurs
extended their lead. A Spurs attack resulted in Renata crossing
for Taylor to finish for 3-0.
More changes ensued with Whitney
returning in place of Nikki and Shianne taking over goalkeeping
responsibilities. Renata began to make her presence felt and had three
chances that were either saved or narrowly missed. Parkfield
began to exert some pressure and won a number of corners. Katie
and Taylor were on hand with some saving tackles that prevented
Parkfield from registering a goal.
The final Spurs
substitution saw Charlotte return in place of Taylor. Ayse went
close before Spurs completed the scoring on 66 minutes. A Spurs
long ball was not cleared by the Parkfield
defence
and was picked up by Whitney whose shot beat the keeper for 4-0.
In the closing minutes
Spurs went close from
Ayse and a
Whitney thunderbolt before the referee blew for full-time.

The U14s second league game of the season
was one at home to Denham United and for the first time this season
there was a full complement of players to choose from.
For much of the first half Denham’s
keeper was in inspired form. She gathered most of Tottenham’s
early chances with ease before sending a series of very long clearances
downfield that tested the Spurs defence. Sarah Skipper and Shianne
St. Louis had to make headed clearances on more than one occasion to cut
out any danger.
On 16 minutes Laura Smith and Hannah
Lyons were replaced by Whitney Tango and Siobhan Jones. Whitney
was quickly into the game and had a shot saved, then she and Renata
began to create more chances, having a number of shots saved as Spurs
began to turn the screw. Ayse Mustafa was replaced by Taylor O'Leary,
who had a shot saved almost immediately after coming on. Siobhan
also had a half chance that went narrowly wide.
As the half closed, Whitney had three
chances to open the scoring - two narrowly missed and the third rattled
the post and so the half ended 0-0.
Katie Mills and Rosie Kmita were
introduced at the start of the second half replacing Molly Kmita and
Siobhan.
Katie, Nikki Hunnable and Whitney Tango
combined well, only for Whitney to have her shot saved by the Denham
keeper. Rosie, Renata, Whitney and Nikki all had shots saved
before Spurs took the lead on 47 minutes, when Whitney latched onto a
through ball from Ayse and shot into the far corner of the net for 1-0.
Harley Keenlyside was replaced by Hannah
on 49 minutes with Rosie switching to left back. Almost
immediately Spurs extended their lead. They won a free-kick in
front of Denham’s goal on the edge of the box. Nikki stepped up
and drove an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net for 2-0.
On 55 minutes Renata was replaced by
Laura, who within two minutes had made it 3-0. The bounce from a
Nikki corner eluded a Denham defender and fell to Laura who finished
from close range. Nikki was replaced by Siobhan, who had a shot
saved on 60 minutes. As the pressure grew, Spurs then had a series
of corners that were well cleared by the Denham defence.
Charlotte Dean and Molly returned to the
game after 65 minutes replacing Taylor and Sarah. Denham went
close with a cross come shot that flew across the face of the Spurs
goal. Spurs’ final substitutions came on 67 minutes when Renata and
Nikki replaced Whitney and Laura, just before Denham had another couple
of half chances that were cleared by the Spurs defence.
Almost on full-time Spurs completed the
scoring. Rosie fed the ball to Renata, who dribbled round two
defenders before finishing with the outside of her foot for 4-0.
Well done to the girls for another win
and another clean sheet.

This HCGFL game at Fred Knights saw last
season’s champions and runners-up going head-to-head.
Spurs had their work cut-out as QPR
played to their strengths by pumping a series of long-balls over the
Spurs defence for their fleet footed attackers to chase. Only good
early work from Harley Keenlyside, Shianne St. Louis, Sarah Skipper and
Katie Mills managed to clear the Spurs lines.
However, there was a sense of
inevitability that the QPR’s direct approach would eventually breach the
Spurs defence, which duly occurred after 18 minutes, when a QPR attacker
chased down a pass and hammered the ball across Daisy O'Sullivan into
the far corner of the Spurs net.
Daisy then made a good save from a
corner, before Spurs fell further behind after 25 minutes, when a shot
from outside the box just looped over her outstretched hands and into
the net.
Spurs did have some half chances in the
first half as Molly Kmita shot just past the QPR post and both Renata
Inniss and Nikki Hunnable went close before the half ended 0-2.
The second half saw Hannah Lyons, Siobhan
Jones, Rosie Kmita and Whitney Tango introduced as Spurs tried to claw
their way back into the game. There was a better tempo from Spurs
at the start of the half and Whitney’s introduction in particular seemed
to create some panic in the QPR defence.
Ayse Mustafa’s
re-introduction led to some neat Spurs passing through midfield as Spurs
began to threaten. QPR were playing on the break at this point and
Daisy had to be quick off her line to clear one-on-one from a ball over
the top.
After 50 minutes Whitney was put through,
but had her shot saved by the QPR keeper after two attempts to gather.
Renata had a shot blocked after a good run after 57 minutes as Spurs
pushed forward leaving a few gaps at the back, which QPR sought to
exploit in the latter stages of the game.
QPR hit the Spurs woodwork before scoring
a third a few minutes later after Spurs did not clear from some more
direct play.
The game ended 0-3 to QPR, which was just
about deserved due to their more clinical finishing when chances
occurred.

Spurs Ladies Under-14s' latest league game was against a
side promoted last season – Fairlands Youth - who the girls on a day when they had their shooting boots on.
The U14s were very quick out of the
blocks and went ahead after only three minutes when a throw-in was
picked up by Renata Inniss who held off two challenges before shooting
into the roof of the net for 1-0.
A couple of minutes after taking the lead
Spurs went further in front when a Siobhan Jones pass found Laura Smith
whose shot from the edge of the box found the corner of the net for
2-0.
Our lead was extended to 3-0 when after
10 minutes, when Renata grabbed her second of the game with a fine left
footed finish from the edge of the box.
Fairlands were finding it tough, but did
fashion a couple of half chances as the half progress that were cut out
by the Spurs defence. However, it was not long before Spurs increased
the lead when an Ayse Mustafa through ball found Renata who completed
her hat-trick with a near-post shot for 4-0.
On 30 minutes, a great Nikki Hunnable run
was ended when she was up-ended in the box and was awarded a penalty.
She stepped up and converted to make the score 5-0.
Just before the break a shot from Laura
was saved by the Fairlands keeper only for the rebound to fall to Ayse
who scored from the edge of the box to make the half-time score 6-0 to
Spurs.
If the U14s started the first half
quickly the start of the second was almost a repeat. On 36 minutes
Whitney Tango robbed a defender before crossing for Molly Kmita to
convert for 7-0.
Almost immediately from the restart Molly
returned the favour with a through ball to Whitney who shot into the far
corner to make the score 8-0 to Spurs.
The game was not totally one way and
after 41 minutes Fairlands won a free-kick for hand-ball on the edge of
the Spurs penalty area. The resultant kick was convincingly
dispatched over Daisy O’Sullivan’s head into the top corner of the net
to make the score 8-1.
Spurs had a few more chances including a
Renata shot well saved by the keeper before, after 49 minutes, a through
ball found Whitney who grabbed her second of the match with a shot that
the Fairlands keeper was just unable to keep out for 9-1.
Whitney was not finished and after 57
minutes she too completed her hat-trick with a lovely chip over the
Fairlands keeper to make the score 10-1 to Spurs.
Renata completed the scoring after 61
minutes when she grabbed Spurs’ 11th and her fourth goal to
make the final score 11-1.
Well done to the girls for a convincing
win and some good passing football. Commiserations should go to the
Fairlands girls, who never gave up trying to play football throughout
the match in difficult circumstances.

Spurs Ladies Under-14s' latest Home
Counties Girls Football League game was a home fixture against St Albans
City U14.
The U14s looked hungry and went straight
at St. Albans from the kick-off. After only three minutes a Taylor
O’Leary pass was picked up by Renata Inniss who drove the ball into the
top corner of the net for 1-0.
Spurs extended their after five minutes,
when a pin-point through ball from Ayse Mustafa found Renata, who
notched her second of the game with the outside of her boot.
Whitney Tango had three chances to score
and Renata hit a post before Spurs increased the score to 3-0 after 12
minutes, when Taylor and Ayse combined to cross for Laura Smith to
finish.
Ayse then had a couple of chances to
extend the lead further and Renata hit the bar before Molly Kmita
entered the fray after 23 minutes as Spurs shuffled their pack.
Shortly after coming on a Siobhan Jones cross found Molly who finished
to make the score 4-0 to the U14s.
Whitney and Renata both had further
chances to score before the half came to a close with the score at 4-0
to Spurs.
At the break Spurs made three changes
with Laura, Taylor and Shianne St. Louis returning for Ayse, Whitney and
Charlotte Dean.
For some reason Spurs struggled to create
any clear chances at the start of the second half as the game became a
bit scrappy. This allowed St. Albans to fashion a couple of half
chances that had to be tidied up by Daisy O’Sullivan.
It was not until 49 minutes that Spurs
scored again, when a ball over the top from Taylor found Renata whose
shot was blocked by the St. Albans keeper only for Laura to follow up
for 5-0.
Katie Mills, Harley Keenlyside, Sarah
Skipper and Shianne were looking solid at the back getting in some
strong challenges to break up any St. Albans attacks.
After 54 minutes a ball was fed out to
Molly whose shot from outside the box made the score 6-0 to Spurs.
Katie, Harley and Renata departed a minute later for Ayse, Charlotte and
Whitney.
St. Albans to their credit pulled a goal
back after 56 minutes to make the score 6-1 with a shot past Daisy.
Straight from the restart Spurs nearly
cancelled out the St. Albans goal with a goal bound shot from Charlotte
deflecting off a defender for a corner. On 61 minutes Rosie Kmita found
Ayse, who played a great through ball to Taylor to slide in and score to
make it 7-1 to Spurs.
After 65 minutes a great run and cross
from Whitney found Siobhan who opened her account for Spurs Ladies to
take the score to 8-1.
Almost straight from the kick-off Spurs
won back the ball in midfield for Ayse to find Taylor unmarked in the
box to make the score 9-1 to the U14s.
The scoring was not quite complete as
after 67 minutes a St. Albans attacker robbed a Spurs defender before
advancing into the penalty area, holding off a challenge and shooting
over Daisy to make the final score 9-2 to Spurs.
Well done to the girls on a good win.

The half-term holidays deprived Spurs of
several players for the visit of St. Martins and the U14s lined up on a
sunny morning with eleven players and no substitutes. Whether this
was a factor in Tottenham’s sluggish start to the game is unclear but it
was St. Martins who made the early running.
It was good to see both sets of players
pose for a joint photograph to participate in the ‘One Game One
Community’ week of action prior to the game.
After five minutes a ball over the top
caught the Spurs defence flat. It fell to a St. Martins player who
shot across Daisy O’Sullivan into the corner of the net to make it 0-1
to the visitors. St. Martins very nearly increased their lead a minute
later when a long shot flew over the bar as Spurs struggled to get into
the game.
It wasn’t until 13 minutes that the U14s
created a goal scoring opportunity of note when Laura Smith and Whitney
Tango combined for Whitney to shoot just wide of the post. Two minutes
later Spurs were on level terms (rather fortunately) when an Ayse
Mustafa shot from a Hannah Lyons corner was gathered by the St. Martins
keeper. Unfortunately for the goalkeeper the ball squirmed from her
grasp as she tried to clear and found its way into the net for 1-1.
This seemed to galvanise the Spurs
players who began to apply some serious pressure on the St. Martins
goal. Whitney had a shot saved before a series of Spurs corners
followed; one of which fell to Siobhan Jones who shot into the far
corner of the net for 2-1 with 19 minutes on the clock.
However, Spurs only held the lead for six
minutes, when after 23 minutes a St. Martins break was only half cleared
and fell to a St. Martins player on the edge of the box. Her long
shot dipped over Daisy and into the back of the net to make the score
2-2.
Whitney and Laura both had chances to
retake the lead but could not convert, whilst Ayse hit the bar from a
free-kick as the first half ended all square at 2-2.
The half time team talk seemed to have
the desired effect as Spurs took control from the restart.
Whitney, Siobhan and Laura all went close in the early minutes of the
second half before after 40 minutes a cross found its way to Hannah who
dispatched from a tight angle to make the score 3-2 to Spurs.
St. Martins were then penned back in
their half for long intervals. A Spurs free-kick fell to Laura who shot
just over the bar whilst Sarah Skipper, Hannah and Whitney all went
close to extending the Spurs lead.
After 64 minutes a Katie Mills through
ball created panic in the St. Martins defence. The resultant scramble
led to the ball falling to the feet of Whitney who grabbed her goal to
make it 4-2 to Spurs.
Whitney and Laura both had chances to
extend the lead further before the game ended 4-2 to the U14s.
Well done to the girls (some of whom were
carrying injuries) who dug in to overcome a decent St. Martins side.

Home Counties Girl's Football

Several players returned to the Under-14s
team for the visit to another of the newly promoted sides - Hoddesdon
Owls. It turned out to be an interesting match played on a tight pitch,
with Hoddesdon proving distinctly resilient opponents often getting 11
players behind the ball stifling Tottenham’s passing game.
In the opening stages, Spurs had much of
the possession and peppered the Hoddesdon goal with shots and forced a
number of corners. In the first 15 minutes alone both Whitney Tango and
Renata Inniss could have had hat-tricks and Charlotte Dean, Laura Smith,
Katie Mills and Taylor O’Leary all went close.
Spurs introduced Ayse Mustafa, Siobhan
Jones and Nikki Hunnable half-way through the half in an attempt to
break the deadlock.
The break-through eventually came after
21 minutes when good interplay from Whitney and Renata resulted in the
ball finding the feet of Nikki Hunnable whose cross-shot from out wide
looped over the Owls keeper and over the line (just as Siobhan made
sure) to make the score 0-1 to Spurs.
More corners followed and Ayse, Renata
and Whitney all went close to extending the lead before Hoddesdon
fashioned a chance that had to be tidied up by Shianne St. Louis.
The half ended with the score 0-1 to Spurs.
The start of the second half followed the
same pattern as the first with Spurs making the running and forcing a
number of corners. Shianne, Whitney and Hannah Lyons all went close
before after 45 minutes a clearance from a goalmouth scramble found its
way to Charlotte, who drove in a shot from outside the box to make the
score 0-2 to Spurs.
By this point Spurs really had up a head
of steam and after 50 minutes increased the lead when good work from
Hannah and Whitney found Ayse, who shot past the keeper to make it 0-3
to the U14s. Shortly after, a great run from Whitney resulted in a
shot which was blocked by an Owls defender before hitting the bar
instead of the net.
Then came a rare event - a headed Spurs
goal - when, after 53 minutes, Katie found Ayse, whose pinpoint cross
was finished with a fine header from Siobhan to make the score 0-4.
Just on the hour Daisy O’Sullivan got a
rare chance to play on pitch with Laura taking over goalkeeping
responsibilities. Spurs hit the woodwork again shortly after, when
Whitney beat three players before firing against the bar.
There was still time for Renata to have a
ball cleared off the line and both Shianne and Siobhan to go close
before the game ended at 0-4 to Spurs.
Credit should be given to Hoddesdon,
whose defensive work ethic throughout the team made it very difficult
for Spurs to play their normal game. On numerous occasions they
managed to get in a vital block, save or do just enough to prevent Spurs
from scoring, which will surely hold them in good stead from the
remainder of the season.
