A full strength Spurs squad arrived at
the Walker Ground anticipating a tough game against Enfield Town.
And so it proved to be, as both teams cancelled each other out in the
first few minutes of the match with much of the play in midfield and few
clear cut goal-scoring opportunities.
The U14s did force a number of corners in
this phase of the match and Renata Inniss, Nikki Hunnable and Molly
Kmita all had half chances that were tidied up by the Enfield defence.
Enfield too had their chances and Daisy
O’Sullivan had to be on hand whenever the Spurs goal was threatened.
The game opened up after 24 minutes when
a corner from Nikki found Whitney Tango whose shot was just too powerful
for the Enfield keeper to hold finding the net to make it 0-1 to Spurs.
Taylor O’Leary then shot just wide of the
Enfield post before the home side almost equalised when a corner was
headed onto the Spurs post. This chance was the last of a very
evenly contested half that ended 0-1 to Spurs.
Enfield started the second half
determined to force their way back into the game and very quickly after
the restart had a shot that was well saved by Daisy.
The key moment of the game arrived on 37
minutes, as Enfield won a free-kick just inside the Spurs half.
The free-kick found its way to Sarah Skipper, whose huge clearance from
the edge of the Spurs penalty area flew deep into the Enfield half and
found its way to Whitney, who did excellently to hold off a challenge
before rounding the keeper to make it 0-2 to Spurs.
Spurs then began to create more chances
as they sought to wrap up the game. Laura Smith forced her way
down the left flank before shooting just wide whilst Katie Mills and
Charlotte Dean combined on the other side of the pitch with Charlotte’s
cross shot beating everybody flew just past the post.
Enfield went close to pulling a goal back
after 45 minutes, when a good run and shot was saved by Daisy.
On 58 minutes Spurs thought they had sewn
up the game when a pinpoint pass from Charlotte found Renata who beat
the keeper only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. This
incident seemed to galvanise the Enfield team, who then had their best
period of the match. Their best chance came from a corner resulted
in a goalmouth scramble and a shot that flew over the Spurs bar.
Taylor, Katie, Shianne St. Louis, Rosie
Kmita and Harley Keenlyside all made excellent challenges during this
period to win vital ball and thus preventing the Spurs line from being
breached as the girls looked determined to keep a clean sheet.
Three minutes before full time a great
forward run from Harley found Renata who managed to force a corner.
The corner taken by Ayse fell to Renata, who made up for her earlier
disappointment by driving a shot into the net making it 0-3 to Spurs -
effectively wrapping up the points. This was how the game ended.
An excellent performance against a very
good Enfield team resulted in the entire team being awarded player of
the match. Well done.

Today’s visitors were another one of the
promoted sides – Stevenage Borough Vixens. Prior to kick-off both
teams, club officials and parents observed a minutes silence
to mark Remembrance Sunday.
When the game eventually
got underway Spurs were quick out of the blocks and opened the scoring
after only three minutes, when a Renata Inniss through ball found
Whitney Tango, who shot past the Stevenage keeper to make the score
1-0.
If the U14s thought the
game was going to be a ‘walk in the park’, they were mistaken and were
forced to wait nearly 30 minutes for their next goal. In that time
Shianne St. Louis, Renata twice, Laura Smith, Charlotte Dean, Whitney
twice, Hannah Lyons and Taylor O’Leary on three occasions all had
chances to extend the Spurs lead, but were denied by some dogged
Stevenage defending and some good saves by their keeper.
Stevenage struggled to
create any chances of note in the first half, with the Spurs defence
largely untroubled, and it was one of the defenders – Katie Mills –
whose throw-in found its way to Whitney after 32 minutes, who then shot
high into the net to make the score 2-0 to Spurs. This was how the
first half ended.
Spurs made four changes at
the break as they looked for more goals. Renata, Laura and Nikki
Hunnable all went close before Spurs extended their lead after 47
minutes. A through ball found its way to Nikki, who made her way
into the box before unleashing a shot that could only be parried by the
Vixens keeper and it fell to Laura, who finished with aplomb to make the
score 3-0 to Spurs.
Daisy O’Sullivan, largely
a spectator in the first half, then had to be quick off her line to make
a couple of clearances as Stevenage pushed forward looking for a goal of
their own.
Renata and Taylor both had
shots from distance and a Whitney run and shot hit the woodwork as Spurs
continued to press forward. A succession of corners followed
before the Vixens keeper made a fine save to tip a goal-bound Renata
shot round the post on the hour.
Stevenage appeared to tire
in the last phase of the match having chased ball for long periods.
This allowed Spurs to score two late goals. The first came on 63
minutes when a challenge by Taylor to win the ball allowed her to find
Laura whose fine finish made it 4-0 to Spurs.
Two minutes later, a
Siobhan Jones through ball found Renata, who was rewarded for her
earlier efforts by taking the ball on and shooting into the far corner
making it 5-0 to Spurs and completing the scoring.
There was still time for
Whitney and Nikki to go close before the game ended 5-0 to the U14s.
Well done to the girls on
a good performance and result where the score did not really reflect
their dominance on the day.

Tottenham went into this top of the table
clash with Garston without the missing Katie Mills due to illness and
Laura Smith due to the car accident that she was involved in on the way
to training last Tuesday. We all wish Laura and her Dad Rob a
speedy recovery.
Spurs
started the brighter of the two teams, looking dangerous moving forward,
but already there were signs that Garston were quick on the break.
Daisy O'Sullivan made a good save after five minutes, but the lead went
to Tottenham after twelve minutes. Ayse Mustafa showed some silky
skills to turn the defender and cross the ball to Nikki Hunnable,
who took her chance coolly and slotted the ball into the left bottom
corner of the net.
The defence of Molly Kmita, Rosie Kmita,
Harley Keenlyside and Shianne St. Louis seemed to be coping well, while
Tottenham continued to attack, but Garston responded with a fast paced
break that ended in their striker shooting hard and low under the diving
Daisy.
Tottenham kept the pressure on with
Renata Inniss going close after an excellent solo run. Whitney
Tango also went close after an excellent through ball by Charlotte Dean
only to see her shot whip across the face of the Garston goal. Taylor
O'Leary was in top form; winning tackles in her usual style and spraying
balls around the pitch. In fact it looked inevitable that Spurs
would extend their lead. Siobhan Jones replaced Ayse on the left
side of midfield, but Garston took the opportunity to break away to take
the lead and make the score 2-1.
For the last ten minutes of the first
half Tottenham looked a little nervous. Garston kept attacking at
pace and their striker found herself through on goal, Molly made a last
ditch attempt to win the ball but unfortunately she clipped the
opponents ankle. Garston won a penalty and made the score 3-1.
The half time whistle blew immediately afterwards.
At the break Ayse came back on to replace
Charlotte and Sarah Skipper for Molly, who came on and quickly got into
the game. The game kept going at a high pace, Siobhan battled hard down
the left and was nearly rewarded with a goal with a fine high looping
volley from 25 yards that dipped just over the crossbar. The
Tottenham girls continued to attack at every opportunity but yet again
Garston were fast on the break as they extended their lead to 4-1.
Nikki used her speed to beat the Garston
defender and her cross fell perfectly to Ayse, who had a great shot from
outside the area only to be pushed away by the keeper. Another
fine mazy run by Nikki had the Garston defenders in a panic and she was
tripped in the area to be awarded a penalty. Up she got to place
the penalty high into the net.
Spurs continued to attack with Whitney in
the thick of the action. She firstly had a shot that went just
over the bar and was then brought down by a strong but non malicious
tackle in the area. The referee judged that it was a fair challenge.
The match ended 4-2 and full credit has
to be given to both sides for a highly competitive and fair game of
football that was a joy to watch. The return game will be highly
anticipated.

The Spurs Ladies U14s
arrived at the Den without the services of Daisy O’Sullivan, Ayse
Mustafa, Laura Smith and Rosie Kmita. Renata Inniss, Taylor
O’Leary, Charlotte Dean and Siobhan Jones each took turns in goal in
Daisy’s absence.
The game kicked off with
Spurs looking distinctly lacklustre and the situation deteriorated
further shortly after when both Siobhan and Katie Mills had to leave the
field feeling unwell, leaving the girls with 10 fit players on the
pitch.
It is testament to them
that they did not concede during this period. Harley Keenlyside
was resolute not giving an inch, and on the one occasion that the Spurs
defence was breached Taylor was quickly off her line to cut out a
dangerous Denham through ball.
At the other end of the
field the Denham defence restricted Spurs to the three chances in the
first half – a saved shot from Whitney Tango after three minutes, a
Hannah Lyons shot tipped over by the keeper after 20 minutes and a
blocked Renata shot after 31 minutes and so the half ended 0-0.
The half time team talk
had the desired effect as Spurs looked much more effective after the
break. Two quick corners were forced both of which were cleared by the
Denham defence. It was not all one way as Shianne St. Louis had to be on
her toes to clear to prevent a Denham shot on goal.
Renata and Taylor both had
shots saved by the Denham keeper whilst a great cross from Whitney was
almost deflected into her own net by a Denham defender.
Katie – feeling better –
returned to the fray and sitting in front of the defence starting
finding space for Nikki Hunnable and Molly Kmita to run into as Spurs
began to turn the screw.
Whitney, Siobhan - also
feeling better - both had chances saved by the excellent Denham keeper
before Spurs took the lead after 53 minutes when a Nikki run and shot
found its way to Siobhan who tucked a shot under the keeper to make it
0-1 to the U14s.
Siobhan then took on
goalkeeping responsibilities and it was she who had to pick the ball out
of the Spurs net after 57 minutes when a Denham attacker broke and held
off Sarah Skipper before equalising.
Spurs almost re-took the
lead straight from the restart when Whitney latched onto a through ball
from Taylor before driving a shot against the Denham post.
Five minutes after
conceding Spurs were again in front, when a great run and cross from
Nikki was met by Charlotte whose shot was deflected onto the post by the
Denham keeper. Charlotte was first to react to the rebound and forced
the ball over the line to make it 1-2 to Spurs.
A strong challenge from
Katie forced the ball through to Renata who back-heeled a pass to Nikki
who in turn found Whitney, the latter denied a goal by a brave save at
her feet from the Denham keeper as Spurs really began to express
themselves.
Taylor shot from distance
before a through ball from Charlotte was picked up by Renata whose
exquisite finish made it 1-3 to Spurs after 66 minutes which was how the
game finished.
Well done to the girls for
grinding out a victory against a resolute Denham team.

Spurs Ladies Under-14s met Parkfield
Youth at Fred Knights on a bright, but chilly day with a delayed kick
off. The early period was tight with both teams battling it out in
the middle of the park. With Daisy O’ Sullivan unavailable in goal
four different outfield players took it in turns to help out between the
posts, they were Charlotte Dean, Molly Kmita, Siobhan Jones and Shianne
St. Louis. Charlotte unfortunately had to pick the ball out of the
net from a well taken early goal by the visitors.
Tottenham responded well and were unlucky
not to equalise as a Siobhan Jones run and powerful shot went just the
wrong side of the post, then Taylor O’ Leary then saw her excellent lob
float just past the left post. The match was equally balanced at this
point, Parkfield were quick to chase every ball and close down the Spurs
players at every attempt. Ayse Mustafa was having a battle with
the opposing midfielders and was unfortunately and unintentionally
caught by a Parkfield player, ending her game for the day.
A clever through ball by Charlotte Dean
found Renata Inniss who turned the defender to crack the equaliser into
the bottom right corner of the net. Parkfield responded quickly
and saw their forward through on goal. Luckily enough for
Tottenham, Katie Mills and Shianne St. Louis both chased back and did
well to knock the ball out for a corner. The play moved from end to end
and it was congested in the middle of the park, Sarah Skipper and Molly
Kmita made several important clearances between them to keep the score
level.
With half time approaching it looked like
the teams were going in level when Taylor O’ Leary slotted the ball
through to Renata Inniss who kept her cool with two Parkfield defenders
snapping at her heels to take the score to 2-1.
Jayne Foster’s half time team talk seemed
to do the trick, Spurs came out with all guns blazing and it was evident
to see that Parkfield were beginning to tire. Almost straight from the
kick off Renata Inniss completed her hat-trick with a powerful shot into
the top corner. Spurs were now on the rampage, Taylor O’ Leary saw the
keeper off of her line and her lob was knocked in by the stranded
Parkfield keeper to make the score 4-1. The on form Renata then claimed
her fourth goal to take the score to 5-1.
Nikki Hunnable took on three Parkfield
defenders on the right wing and whipped the perfect cross for Whitney
Tango to open her account for the day with a quality finish. The team
were now in full flow with great one touch football being played right
across the pitch, Hannah Lyons played some neat football down the left
including some neat one twos with Whitney. In a move that most
Premiership players would have been proud that consisted of the ball
being sprayed from left to right found Nikki Hunnable who’s powerful
shot from the edge of the area made the score 7–1.
The team continued passing the ball
around well for Siobhan to set Whitney up and make the score 8–1. Renata
then scored her fifth goal and Tottenham’s ninth goal of the afternoon.
A Nikki corner was knocked out of the area to Katie Mills who shot low
into the bottom left corner of the net under the diving keeper for her
first goal of the season and for the U14s last goal of 2007 to take the
final score to 10-1.
The match ended on a sour note when the
Parkfield keeper was injured trying to save the last goal and was taken
to hospital in an ambulance. Everyone at THLFC wishes her well and a
speedy recovery.
This really was a game of two halves; the
first being tight and competitive; the second was totally one sided, an
excellent performance to give their manager Jane Foster and their
supporters an early Christmas present.

The U14s faced St. Albans City U14 in
their first league game of the New Year and welcomed back Laura Smith
after her recent car accident.
Spurs playing with the slope in the first
half did not take long to notch their first goal of 2008 when after only
one minute Taylor O’Leary found Renata Inniss on the right hand side of
the penalty area, who dispatched a volley into the corner of the net to
make it 0-1.
St. Albans very nearly equalised shortly
afterwards, but goal-bound efforts were blocked by first Katie Mills and
then Ayse Mustafa before Spurs cleared their lines.
The game then settled into one where
Spurs made most of the running with Charlotte Dean, Nikki Hunnable
(twice), Ayse, Taylor, Siobhan Jones and Renata (twice) all going close
to increasing the lead. During this period Hannah Lyons swung in a
number of dangerous corner kicks which the St. Albans defence did well
to clear.
Spurs did not have it all their own way
and at the other end of the field attacks from St. Albans had to be
snuffed out by resolute defending from Shianne St. Louis, Harley
Keenlyside and Katie. Sarah Skipper had the misfortune to sustain
an injury shortly after entering the fray, and after treatment, took no
further part in the game.
It was not until after 26 minutes had
passed before the U14s increased their lead when a precision pass from
Ayse found Renata, who took the ball on before firing high in to the net
to make it 0-2 to Spurs.
After 34 minutes another excellent
through-ball from Ayse found Nikki who raced into the penalty area into
a one-on-one situation with the St. Albans keeper. Nikki kept her cool
and calmly slotted the chance into the net to make it 0-3 to Spurs -
this was how the first half finished.
Whatever was said at half time by the
coaching team had the desired effect as Spurs exploded out of the blocks
when the game kicked off again.
Shortly after kick-off the ball found its
way to Renata in a position wide on the right. Her cross-shot beat
the St. Albans keeper finding the net making it 0-4 to Spurs and thus
completed her hat-trick.
This was shortly followed by a fifth
goal. A cross from Katie was flicked on by Molly Kmita for Rosie
Kmita to finish making it 0-5 to Spurs.
This goal seemed to galvanise the U14s as
the next 15 minutes saw Spurs notch a further four goals. The
first of these came after 46 minutes when a cross from Nikki found Molly
who slid the ball into the net for 0-6.
Almost immediately from the restart Spurs
regained possession and Nikki got herself another assist by crossing for
Renata to grab her fourth and Spurs seventh.
On 50 minutes Rosie turned provider
finding Renata again in space before firing into the net for her fifth
making it 0-8 to Spurs.
Siobhan then went close firing a shot
across goal before Ayse again slotted a pass through the St. Albans
defence finding Renata who scored her sixth and Spurs ninth before
retiring to richly deserved applause for her clinical performance.
As the game entered its final period St.
Albans went close to pulling a goal back when a free-kick from distance
was well saved by Daisy O’Sullivan.
Laura then latched onto a corner from
Charlotte and was unfortunate not to score on her return with her
goal-bound shot was saved by the St. Albans keeper.
The last action of the game culminated in
a final Spurs goal. Taylor played a through ball to Siobhan who
shot into the corner of the net, right on full-time, to make it 0-10 to
Spurs.
Well done to the girls for starting the
New Year in the same vein as they finished the last by scoring ten.
Let’s hope 2008 can bring the girls the success they so richly deserve.

After a two week layoff the U14s returned to action with
a visit to St. Martins without the services of Sarah Skipper, Ayse
Mustafa, Molly Kmita and Rosie Kmita.
The first action of the game came after two minutes when
a long shot from Taylor O’Leary was saved by the St. Martins keeper.
St. Martins themselves then had a couple of chances to break the
deadlock but good challenges by Harley Keenlyside and Shianne St. Louis
diffused any threat to the Spurs goal.
In the opening 10 minutes Whitney Tango and Siobhan Jones
both had chances but neither was able to trouble the St. Martins
keeper.
The game exploded into life after 11 minutes when a Nikki
Hunnable corner was nodded on by Siobhan to Renata Inniss who lashed a
volley onto the St. Martins crossbar. Renata went close again
shortly after but shot just over the bar.
A Whitney pass found Siobhan after 17 minutes who shot
just went over the bar. A minute later Daisy O’Sullivan had to be on her
toes to cut out a St. Martins through ball which resulted in a one on
one situation.
On 19 minutes a great run
down the right wing from Nikki was followed by a pin-point cross to
Renata whose shot was saved excellently by the St Martins keeper.
Renata then went close again a minute later when, after the St. Martins
keeper failed to gather, she shot across the goal and past the post.
After 22 minutes Charlotte
Dean played a great through ball to Whitney who rounded the keeper but
was prevented from scoring by a last ditch tackle from a St. Martins
defender.
At minute later following a St. Martins break Katie Mills
threw herself in front of the ball twice in quick succession to block
goal scoring opportunities.
Taylor was her usual busy
self breaking up play in mid-field and Laura Smith, Whitney and Siobhan
all had shots blocked before Spurs took the lead on 29 minutes. A
pass found its way to Whitney with her back to goal. In one
movement, she was able to turn and dispatch a shot that flew under the
St. Martins keeper and into the net to make it 0-1 to Spurs.
A minute later Spurs
almost doubled their lead when a through ball from Renata found Laura
whose goal bound shot was saved by the keeper. Half time came
shortly after with the score 0-1 to Spurs.
The opening stages of the
second half very much belonged to St. Martins who put the Spurs defence
under real pressure and only excellent defending from Shianne, Harley
and Katie and some good saves from Daisy (plus a certain amount of good
fortune) prevented the home team from equalising as they peppered the
Spurs goal with shots.
Spurs too had their
chances during this period with a Hannah Lyons corner finding its way to
Whitney whose shot flew just past the post. The resulting goal
kick was returned with interest by Renata whose shot flew just past the
post.
Siobhan then had three
goal bound efforts blocked following good work from Renata who had
started to pull the strings from midfield. After 60 minutes
Whitney broke from deep and was denied only by a great double save by
the St. Martins keeper.
It was looking like the
next goal would prove decisive and when it came after 64 minutes it was
the Spurs U14s who were smiling. A cross from Laura on the right
found Whitney whose shot was saved. However, she was first to the
rebound and poked the ball home to make it 0-2 to Spurs.
A corner from Hannah then
found its way to Siobhan who shot just past the post as Spurs attempted
to put the game beyond St. Martins.
Two minutes later Renata
tried her luck from distance but unluckily for her the St. Martins
keeper saved well. A minute later on 69 minutes Renata again shot
from distance. This time the St. Martins keeper could only parry
and Laura was first to the ball to make the score 0-3 to Spurs.
The final whistle went shortly afterwards ending a really good game of
football from both sides.
Well done to the girls who
stood firm against a much improved St. Martins team before coming out
with a good victory.

Today’s HCGFL fixture saw the U14s
entertain Enfield Town A in a fixture that over the years has provided
much entertainment and so it was to prove again.
Spurs were without Sarah Skipper
(recovering from an ankle injury sustained in the first match of the New
Year) and Renata Inniss (away skiing). Indeed it was almost skiing
type weather with a biting wind that made playing conditions difficult
for both teams.
It was Spurs who made an explosive start to warm our
assembled parents when after eight minutes Ayse Mustafa found Laura
Smith 30 yards from goal. Laura turned and unleashed a thunderbolt
of a shot that flew into the net leaving the Enfield keeper helpless to
do anything about it.
So it was 1-0 to Spurs with Charlotte Dean pulling
strings in front of the defence trying to find that defence splitting
pass whilst Taylor O'Leary was all over the place getting in vital
challenges and headers.
However Enfield quickly fashioned an attack of their own
and only a double block from Katie Mills prevented a chance on goal.
After 20 minutes Laura very nearly
doubled her tally when after a good run she saw her shot saved by the
Enfield keeper.
Whitney Tango and Hannah Lyons had
entered the fray at this point. Hannah was busy down the left
whilst Whitney quickly became involved in a couple of half chances for
the U14s. Firstly she fed Ayse whose shot was saved. Then good
work from Rosie and Molly Kmita found Whitney who had her shot saved as
Spurs attempted to extend their lead.
It was not all one way traffic though and
after 27 minutes Enfield broke and shot just past Daisy O’Sullivan’s far
past which served to remind the girls just how fragile their lead was.
The last action of the first half saw a
long pass from Katie gathered by Whitney who rounded the Enfield keeper
and was about to slide the ball into an empty net only to be denied by
an excellent last ditch tackle from a defender. The referee's
whistle blew shortly after with the score at 1-0.
The U14s started the second half as they
did the first scoring shortly after the restart. A pass from
Whitney found Molly whose shot was turned round the post by the Enfield
keeper. The resulting corner, taken by Siobhan Jones, found
Whitney in the Enfield penalty area who calmly to aim and shoot to make
it 2-0 to Spurs after 41 minutes.
Spurs then created three more good
chances to extend their lead. Firstly a Nikki Hunnable pass found Ayse
Mustafa, who shot just over the bar. This was shortly followed two
corners from Siobhan, which resulted in Shianne St. Louis firing
narrowly over the bar and Taylor having a goal bound shot saved.
Enfield struck back after 45 minutes when
a throw was eventually fed across our box before being dispatched with
some venom by one of the Enfield strikers making the score 2-1.
Spurs nearly regained their two goal
advantage a minute later when a throw from Ayse found Siobhan whose
effort was saved by the Enfield keeper with an effort from Whitney from
the resulting rebound being blocked.
After 50 minutes Ayse and Rosie combined
in midfield with the latter’s cross finding Siobhan in space in the box.
She needed no second invitation and fired into the roof of the net
making it 3-1 to Spurs.
If the Spurs players thought that they
could relax at this point they were mistaken as a number of Enfield
attacks had to be repelled.
Both Harley Keenlyside and Molly made
great tackles to prevent chances during this period, but perhaps the
best bit of defending came after 63 minutes when an Enfield break looked
to be ending in a certain goal before Shianne St. Louis appeared out of
nowhere to make a last ditch tackle to retain our two goal advantage.
This looked to be how the game was ending
particularly when a vicious shot from distance by an Enfield attacker
was brilliantly saved by Daisy, who was first to the rebound to clear
for a corner. However resultant corner was not cleared by our defence
and an Enfield attacker fired into the Spurs net to make the final score
3-2 to Spurs.
