friendly

This is a very brief match report on the friendly between Spurs and Peterborough United U15. It was a very, very wet day, with everyone getting soaked within seconds of coming onto the pitch.

Spurs started very slowly and it took them about 15 minutes to start to get into their stride, in that time the Defenders of Vicki Blake, Saskia Collins, Clara Littlechild and Hollie Watson had been kept busy, with Lily Tyrimos pulling off a save and coming out to meet a number of through balls.

Tottenham then started to pressurise Peterborough and Bobbi Cubberley scored from a long range shot to make it 1-0, which she followed up a few minutes later with another chipped shot outside the area which beat the keeper to make it 2-0 in the first half.

Shoshana Field and Becca Dowling had joined the party.  The midfield of Katie Fray, Blerta Berisha, Bobbi and Charlotte McLucas were now pushing forward more, when Laura Newby scored to make it 3-0. This was followed up by a lovely individual move by Blerta on the left to make it 4-0.  Vicki went up for a corner and managed to score her first goal for Spurs for two seasons by volleying the ball into the back of the net to make it 5-0.  Well done.

The last goal followed a good move and Sam Pennington slotted the ball away to make it 6-0.

Player of the match went to Bobbi, who played really well in the middle of the park.

home counties girl's football league - u14 div. 1
It least it wasn’t raining as the Spurs and Harvesters Under-14 teams that can’t be separated this season came together for the third time to take part in this crucial league game.

Bobbi Cubberley had a long range effort fairly early on which went over the top.  Laura Newby and Charlotte McLucas were battling down the right looking for a way through.  Hollie Watson cleared away a long lofted ball. Becca Dowling was stepping up well on the right of defence.  Becca produced a good ball to Charlotte who was looking to get Sam Pennington away through the middle.  Harvesters had a shot which was well saved by Lily Tyrimos in goal and Vicki Blake was also very strong in the centre of defence, not letting the No. 8 turn her.  Hollie once again made sure that any through balls were cleared away quickly.  Bobbi was busy in the midfield, with Katie Fray also looking to find some space to create some moves and Lydia Maher was was in action on the left on the midfield.  Vicki produced a good pass to Charlotte who also tried to find the attackers.

Clara Littlechild stepped up well to keep it tight on the left of defence.  Charlotte crossed the ball to almost find Lydia on the left, while Bobbi was battling very hard in the middle.  Charlotte produced a lovely ball through to Sam, who charged towards goal, but she couldn’t quite keep the shot down as it whistled over the top.  Clara continued to close down as some pressing moves were made by the opposition.  Becca came off injured and was replaced by Saskia Collins, who was in the thick of it straight away finding Sam with a searching ball.

Bobbi produced a great pass to Laura who charged down the right, she let fly with her shot that whistled past the left hand post and just wide.  Tottenham were now really getting on top in the game with Bobbi having a super shot, which was saved by the keeper's out-stretched foot, then Lydia followed up the rebound and the keeper parried it away.  Hollie had a long free kick which found Sam on the left and she darted down the line, with a defender just making a last ditch effort to clear.  Bobbi had a very long opportunity, with the ball looping into the air; it just hit the right hand post and bounced away before the keeper could react.

Clara once again was in the thick of it defending and Blerta Berisha came onto the left hand side after being caught up in traffic getting to the game.  Sam had a shot which was well saved just before the end of the first half.

Harvesters came out strongly in the second half, but Tottenham soon got into their stride with Blerta having a shot that was saved by the keeper.  This was followed up a moment later by another darting run by Blerta and once again her shot was saved.  Saskia was working hard on the right of defence, as Bobbi and Blerta played a couple of good one twos as they pushed up on the left.

Harvesters then had their best period as they had a shot that went over the top and a moment later a Harvesters shot hit the post.  Lily was called upon to make a good save from a long range shot.  Hollie was brought into action to clear away a dangerous move and following a corner, there was a goal mouth scramble which saw Hollie literally clear the ball off the goal line to deny a goal.  Tottenham charged up the other end of the pitch and Bobbi delivered a lovely ball to Laura, who took it on to beat the keeper and make it 1-0 with some 15 minutes left on the clock.

Clara was having a battle royal with the Harvesters No. 8, who, try as she might, couldn’t get away and past the Tottenham defender.  The girls pushed on with Blerta pushing the ball back into Bobbi whose shot just went wide of the right hand post.  Blerta was showing great skill beating a number of the Harvesters defenders and flicked the ball out to Katie whose shot was also saved.  Hollie made sure, with Shoshana Field, who came on for Vicki, that the central defence held firm.  A super step up from Clara kept the opposition away from goal.  Blerta kept battling away down the left and Vicki now felt better and came back on to replace Shoshana.  The ball fell to Vicki, who had pushed up and she produced a thumping long range effort which just went wide of the post.  It was so nearly all over when a Harvester defender made a mistake that Laura pounced on, but the shot just went wide of the post.  Harvesters themselves were throwing everything at Spurs, making Hollie head the ball away.

Then Harvesters won a corner and there was a massive goal mouth scramble.  The girls just couldn’t seem to clear the ball away and it ended up in the net to make it 1-1 with three minutes left.  Unfortunately, Hollie had to come off with a head injury and Shoshana came back on to keep things safe for the last few minutes.

So after 210 minutes of play between the two teams its still stalemate, as they have drawn three times now this season.  However, Tottenham are now in a commanding position in the League as they lead the table with just one game remaining.  Well done girls.

No one single player of the week this week as everyone worked very hard.  They will have to do it all again next week, as the sides meet again in the Semi-Final of the League Cup.  Good Luck and well done girls for all your super footballing skills.

home counties girl's football league - u14 cup semi-final

So for the fourth time this season the Spurs Ladies Under-14 team met Harvesters, this time in the Semi-Final of the League Cup.  It was a lovely bright sunny day.

Tottenham started off with Becca Dowling on the right of defence looking to find Sam Pennington up front and there were some good passing moves between Katie Fray and Bobbi Cubberley in the middle of the park.  One such move saw the two girls linking up, then moving the ball onto to Laura Newby who was looking for space up front.  Laura had a long range shot, which the Harvesters keeper comfortably held.

Hollie Watson cleared away a dangerous through ball, with Vicki Blake also stepping up quickly to cut out the Harvesters passing moves.  Clara Littlechild was busy on the left, making sure nothing got past her and Vicki was called upon to head one ball away from a Harvesters attack, then cutting out another through ball a moment later.  Spurs pushed forward with Sam looking for Katie on the right, Charlotte McLucas was kept busy on the right as Harvesters tried to push through, but were blocked off.  Becca made a super run down the right, but couldn’t quite find the final pass, while Katie intercepted a dangerous ball in the middle of the park.  It was now Blerta Berisha’s turn to get involved as play switched to the left of the field; she darted down the left, twisting and turning, passing a number of the opposition.

Harvesters however made the first breakthrough after 18 minutes when the ball wasn’t cleared by the Spurs midfield.  A lofted ball came through, which unfortunately Hollie headed, but it went backwards and Lily Tyrimos couldn’t quite get to it in time and as she rushed out, the Harvesters striker headed it over Lily and despite a super run by Vicki she couldn’t clear the ball before it went into the goal. So, somewhat against the run of play, Spurs found themselves 1-0 down.

Tottenham pushed on once more as Bobbi had a long range shot, which went wide of the target.  Lydia Maher had joined the midfield on the right and was soon battling away looking for a cross into the box.  Hollie once again cleared a searching ball and Becca was throwing herself into the game on the right of defence.  The girls won a free kick and Bobbi’s shot just whistled past the right hand post.  The girls were now throwing everything at Harvesters with Blerta breaking out down the left and her shot just hit the side netting.  Clara was every watchful and made sure nothing got past her and at the other end, just before half time, Bobbi had a shot which the keeper just managed to hold onto at the second attempt before Laura could get to it.

The Spurs girls came out in the second half looking for the equaliser, but Clara was called into action early on and Vicki was very solid in the centre of the defence.  Blerta battled down the left and had a shot that just went wide as she twisted and turned quickly to get her strike in, while in defence, Hollie cut out some difficult and searching balls.

The girls so nearly scored when Blerta battled away in the box, the ball fell out to Lydia and her shot hit the crossbar and bounced away.

Hollie cleared the ball from defence and it was a very long lofted clearance which turned defence into attack, as it fell it Blerta and her shot just went wide.  Harvesters had an opportunity when they broke through in the middle, but their shot went over Lily’s goal.  Laura was battling away up front and had a couple of runs that pushed her on the left, but she couldn’t quite get her shot away, as the Harvesters defenders crowded her out quickly.  Becca was working hard on the right as Harvesters seemed to have throw in after throw in on that side and were winning a number of corners on the right too.  Shoshana Field had come on for Sam up front to mix it up a little.

After another Harvesters corner, the ball was pushed up to Bobbi, who suddenly ran from deep and charged up the pitch, she covered a lot of ground quickly and her shot was saved by the keeper.  Hollie cut out another searching pass from the opposition, but there was now only about eight minutes on the clock, with Spurs constantly pushing forward.  Suddenly there was a charge by Blerta down the left, she beat a couple of defenders and instead of cutting the ball into the middle, she smashed it towards the right hand corner of the goal and the ball nestled nicely in the back of the net.  The goal seemed to lift Spurs into a different gear as they now charged out the opposition to find the winner.

Saskia Collins came on, with Becca switching to attack and Saskia dropping into her place on the right of defence.  It was an inspired substitution as suddenly Becca broke away down the right, beating a couple of Harvesters players, who were left behind as she sped away from them.  Getting into a good wide position,  Becca crossed the ball sweetly into the box, clearing a couple defenders and Laura volleyed the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1 with only five minutes left on the clock.  Charlotte McLucas came on for Lydia to sit just in front of the defence and made sure that nothing came through.  Clara cut out a couple probing balls and Vicki also stepped up quickly to make sure that the centre of defence held firm.  Vicki then cleared a ball to Blerta, who decided to run through a crowd of players on the left and let fly with a super shot that beat the keeper and the ball buried itself in the back of the net to make it 3-1 with about three minutes left.  Tottenham then saw out the rest of the match and final whistle blew.

It was a good game of football that had being played out by both sides.

Gerry felt it was very much a total team effort so no one individual player was singled out for praise.  I know that Paul and Gerry are very proud of how the girls played, with skill, determination and unshakable belief in what they are capable of on a football pitch.  Well done to both sides for the football played.

Spurs now march onto the Final to face Lea Valley. Good luck to all.

friendly

The girls didn’t have a League match this weekend, so they travelled to Stevenage AFC to take part in a friendly match.

Whilst the morning was bright and sunny, as the kick off marched nearer the sun went in and the wind whistled across the sloping pitch, with the Stevenage supporters fighting with the gazebo they had erected over their excellent refreshment table.

Tottenham started the first half, kicking up hill, against the wind.  Laura Newby broke down the right and delivered a lovely cross into the box, which unfortunately didn’t find a Spurs player.  A minute later and Sam Pennington went down the left and crossed to Lydia Maher who was in the box, with the ball being defended well.  Down the other end and Clara Littlechild was dealing with the long balls forward, which were bouncing all over the place, with the ground being rock solid.  Another attack by Spurs saw Sam battling with the keeper who held onto the ball well. Katie Fray got into the act, with a pass to Sam; she drilled the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.

Stevenage pushed forward themselves and Shoshana Field in goal held the ball well from a shot.  Saskia Collins was keeping the defence tight on the right.  Bobbi Cubberley was looking for the through ball, she then linked up with Blerta Berisha following a good one two in the middle of the park.  Hollie Watson was cutting out any dangerous balls at the back.

The midfield were pushing forward with Katie passing to Laura, who drilled the ball back to Bobbi in the middle and her shot, went sailing over the goal.  A moment later and Bobbi passed the ball to Blerta on the left, she went on a charge down the left, beat a couple of players and smashed the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.   Spurs were on top, with Sam having a shot that went wide and Vicki Blake was stepping up well in the centre of defence to keep the pressure on.

Goal number three came when Hollie passed a long ball to Katie, who burst down the left, she managed to squeeze her shot past the keeper and the inside of the post to make it 3-0.  Vicki was heading the long balls away. Bobbi was dominating the middle of the park, she passed a ball out to Becca Dowling on the right, whose shot, just hit the side netting.  Clara continued to battle away on the left.  Laura flicked the ball to Sam, who passed it to Bobbi and her shot just went wide.  Charlotte McLucas had a shot that the keeper saved, following a cross from Becca. A few minutes later and Becca went on a full speed charge down the right hand side, beating some four players with her speed and trickery, she passed the ball onto Lydia who was on the left, she beat a couple of players and then calmly went round the keeper and tapped the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-0.  Once again Becca had a shot that hit the side netting. Just before half time, Hollie delivered a long pass to Bobbi, who ran on and thumped the ball passed the keeper to make it 5-0.

All change at half time, with Lily Tyrimos going into goal and Shoshana coming out to play in central defence. Tottenham were on attack straight away and won a corner, which Charlotte took and one of the Stevenage players headed the ball off the line.  Becca had a shot that whistled over the top.  Blerta darted down the left and saw her shot well held by the keeper.

Saskia was ever watchful and was playing well at the back. The next attack saw Katie burst through the middle and tuck the ball into the left hand corner to make it 6-0.  The girls were forcing play with Katie having another shot saved, Laura a moment later broke through, smashed the ball at the goal, unfortunately it hit the cross bar and bounced out.

The pressure told however, as Katie dived through the middle again and beat the keeper to make it 7-0 and notch up a hat-trick. It was at this stage that Gerry and Paul, decided to test out two new strikers in the guise of Hollie and Clara, and a new central defender Bobbi !!!

Charlotte was battling well at the back, Stevenage had a long range effort which just scrapped the top of the cross bar.  The action switched to the middle of the park, when Hollie headed a ball to try and find Blerta, it came back, but she managed to slip the ball through again, Blerta charged forward and slammed the ball away to make it 8-0.  Saskia was defending well, with Bobbi working hard in the middle of the defence.  The next goal was a special one, as Lydia passed to Hollie in the Stevenage box and Hollie smashed the ball home with all her might to score her first goal for Spurs for over two years.  Her smile lit up the whole pitch to make it 9-0.

Clara nearly got a goal a moment later with Lydia as they charged into the box, but it was just cleared away.  Some more good defending by Bobbi, as she passed the ball out to Blerta to Hollie on the charge, she slid the ball through to Lydia to return the favour and Lydia, made no mistake in drilling the ball into the back of the net to score and make it 10-0.

The pressure continued as Blerta charged down the left a great cross, with Hollie flicking the ball to Lydia who buried it and scored her hat-trick making it 11-0.  At this stage, Vicki now joined Hollie and Clara up front and so you now had the Tottenham defence as attackers looking for glory, with the normal strikers and midfielders doing a sterling job in defence.

The final whistle blew and a good natured and well spirited match had come to an end.  Stevenage had battled really well and had never given up, which is a great credit to them, their managers and supporters.

Tottenham had played well, with player of the match going to Hollie who had delivered the final pass for 5 of the goals and of course scored one herself.

Good luck to Stevenage for the rest of the season.  I just wanted to also say; personally the chocolate cake that I bought from the refreshment table was to die for !!! Thank You.

home counties girl's football league - u14 div. 1

So we reached the last League game of the season, a win or draw would confirm Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC Under-14s as the League champions.  It was a beautiful sunny day and Garston have found a new home which has an excellent pitch and facilities at Bushey Sports Club.

From the kick off the ball fell to Hollie Watson, who delivered a long ball to Laura Newby, who nearly burst through on goal.  Becca Dowling broke out from her right hand defensive position to produce a good ball to Katie Fray in the middle of the park, who was just blocked off as she ran on towards goal.  Bobbi Cubberley produced a searching ball to Sam Pennington up front to test out the Garston defence.

Blerta Berisha was switching the play with Katie and Bobbi had a shot that just went wide of the goal. Spurs were dominating play, but Garston were digging in and not making it easy for Tottenham.  Clara Littlechild was defending well on the left, making sure that nothing broke through; she also produced some excellent long throws to Laura and Sam that kept the opposition on its toes.

Blerta burst down the left and charged down the wing, beating a number of players, with her shot being saved by the keeper.  Vicki Blake was very solid in the middle of the defence, with Katie having a shot that was also well held by the keeper.  Garston were then awarded a free kick on the edge of the area, Lily Tyrimos organised her wall, but the ball went wide of her goal.

Charlotte McLucas on the right delivered a ball to Lydia Maher up front to see if she could break down the Garston defence, she drilled the ball onto Laura, who was just beaten to the ball by the keeper.  The girls won a corner and Bobbi floated in a lovely ball, Vicki had come up from defence, she sprung into the air and headed the ball sweetly into the back of the net to make it 1-0 after 19 minutes and score her second goal of the season.

The girls continued to push forward with Becca passing to Bobbi, who pushed a through ball to Lydia.  Bobbi then passed on to Lydia, who passed it to Charlotte on the right, she struck the ball well, but the keeper pulled off a super save to deny her.  Still the girls looked for the break through, with Katie passing to Lydia whose shot was blocked off and a moment later Blerta created a super cross on the left to Lydia, whose shot went wide.

Hollie blasted a very long range shot, which went wide of the target.  Bobbi took a free kick, which Vicki headed on to Lydia, who headed it at goal and the keeper collected it.  The first half finished with Clara cutting out a potentially dangerous ball.

The second half started with Bobbi delivering a long high ball to Lydia, who headed it on to the keeper.  Shoshana Field was defending well at the back.  The ball went back up the other end with Blerta producing a good cross, which Bobbi volleyed wide on this occasion.  Vicki was defending well in the centre of defence, while Blerta linked up with Laura, then onto Lydia who just missed converting the opportunity.  Blerta once again weaved down the left side of the pitch, with the keeper holding her final shot. Vicki cleared away danger at the back and Becca was battling away on the right, with Saskia Collins on the right of defence and pushing the Garston players back into their own half.

The ball after another attack fell to Bobbi in the middle, she guided the ball towards the goal and it just sneaked into the right hand corner, after a valiant effort by the Garston keeper to try and keep it out to make it 2-0.

A moment later Tottenham pushed forward, once again, Bobbi found herself with some space and she delivered a Bobbi special, which flew through the air, over the keeper and dipped into the top right hand corner to make it 3-0.

Laura now burst through and had a shot on the turn, which was well saved by the keeper.  Lydia got on the end of a cross and her shot was saved.  A moment later and Blerta crossed the ball beautifully to Lydia, who couldn’t quite wrapped her foot around it on this occasion.  The girls were piling on the pressure with Sam coming from midfield to hit the ball towards goal and once again the keeper saved it.  This was followed a few minutes later by another long shot from Sam, which went over the top of the goal.  Saskia and Shoshana continued to defend strongly.  Lydia burst down the right, ran past a number of players and her shot was saved.  Saskia was showing her strength on the right and Clara was doing the same of the left.  Bobbi had another shot which was saved, Lydia was working really hard on the right and then the final whistle blew.  A large cheer came from the Tottenham players and parents as Spurs U14s had just become League Champions for the third time since they started together at U10s.

Great credit should go to Garston who played really well and have improved massively during the season, which is a credit to the girls and their Manager.  We look forward to meeting them again next season.

So after 18 matches, the League season is over, the Spurs girls have produced some wonderful entertaining, skill full football. Their defence, including the goalie have only conceded eight goals, the midfield have run their hearts out and with the strikers have scored some 77 goals.  It has been a real pleasure to watch the entire squad perform this season; they only have one game left, which is the League Cup Final against Lea Valley.

Well done girls and good luck, you certainly deserve it.

home counties girl's football league - u14 cup final

So we came down to the last game of the season, the final of the U14s League Cup against Lea Valley. Whilst it was pouring with rain when the team first arrived, luckily the sky cleared and remained dry throughout the match.

Blerta Berisha was in the action early on producing a good cross from the left; unfortunately it just found the keeper. Vicki Blake defended high up the pitch, also producing a good strong headed clearance from a long ball, with Hollie Watson producing a strong clearance from another long ball through.

Katie Fray was creating some space for herself in the middle of the park, with Charlotte McLucas charging down the right and having her shot saved by the keeper, the ball bounced away and Laura Newby  following up was just denied by a defender at the last moment. Bobbi Cubberley was looking for the through ball to Sam Pennington. Clara Littlechild was solid in defence on the left.  Once again Bobbi threaded a ball through to Sam, with the keeper saving the shot.  Spurs were putting Lea Valley under pressure and Katie crossed the ball to Bobbi who was just inside the area, she drilled the ball into the bottom left hand corner giving the keeper no chance and making it 1-0 with 10 minutes gone.  Blerta pushed on from the left and she passed the ball to Clara who had also moved on, her shot just went wide of the post.  Lea Valley themselves had an attack and Lily Tyrimos was called upon to save a long range shot. Back the action went to the other end with Tottenham winning a corner. The ball was floated in and half cleared by the opposition defence to Blerta; she calmly and neatly stroked the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Still Spurs moved forward with Laura producing a great searching run down the left, the ball flashed down the other end, but Hollie cleared away any danger. Charlotte was battling away on the right and Becca Dowling produced a super ball to Laura who was just crowded out before she could let fly with a shot.  Blerta had a shot herself, which was saved.

Bobbi showed great skill to put Sam through and her shot just went over the cross bar. Another super passing move saw the ball move from Sam to Charlotte to Laura and the keeper and defender just cleared the danger away. The girls made another quick pace move involving Becca to Lydia Maher to Sam and then Charlotte with the ball going wide.  Clara continued to remain steadfast in defence, while Blerta moved off down the left and her shot was saved, but Sam followed up and tucked it away to make it 3-0.  Still Lea Valley didn’t give up and Vicki cut out a dangerous ball.  Bobbi delivered a good through ball to Laura and the keeper just got to it first. A moment later and Bobbi did it again, this time finding Sam, who beat the keeper but couldn’t quite turn the ball into the goal.  Becca made a couple of good defensive moves and Lily saved a well struck shot, just before half time.

Tottenham were off to a flying start when Hollie struck a long ball to Blerta, who moved it on to Sam and she buried the ball to make it 4-0.  Saskia Collins was battling very hard on the right of defence. Sam crossed the ball to Laura, who turned quickly and the ball was cleared away at the last moment. At moment later and Laura shot in a long ball that was saved. Hollie was solid at the back, with Blerta and Lydia linking up well. Saskia passed the ball to Bobbi whose shot whistled towards goal, it smashed against the under side of the cross bar and bounced out. Blerta slipped a ball through to Sam, with the keeper just getting to it in time. Tottenham were really heaping on the pressure with Blerta seeing a shot saved off the line by a defender. Saskia was defending well and Vicki pushed forward to see her shot go wide of the mark. Laura then had a shot that went wide. The girls were moving the ball around really well with Laura to Sam, flicking it on to Lydia and her shot going just wide. Laura crossed the ball in and Becca cut it back, with it being cleared away. Blerta and Laura teamed up for a corner; the ball was flicked on by Vicki’s head and just went wide of Lydia charging in. Lea Valley however called on Lily to make another save from a long shot. Shoshana Field had joined the party and was holding firm on the left of defence. The action switched to the other end and Laura managed to slot the ball away to make it 5-0.  Lea Valley struck back a moment later from a free kick to make it 5-1.

Another good ball from Saskia to Lydia who charged down the right. Vicki defended well at the back, with Clara coming on for the injured Hollie; there were a couple of super saves from Lily in a goal mouth scramble. Spurs however took Lea Valley apart twice in two minutes when Laura delivered a super ball to Sam, who burst through the middle to slot the ball away for her hat trick 6-1.  A moment later a Katie delivered a lovely ball to Laura, who this time burst through the middle and slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 7-1.

The final whistle blew and despite a valiant effort by Lea Valley who played with great spirit found a Tottenham team who were just too strong for them and were determined to complete the Double !!

The girls have played so well as a Team this year, being unbeaten in both the Cup and League Competitions and thoroughly deserve both titles. It was excellent to see the girls pick up their awards and despite Hollie the Captain having to limp up to collect the Cups, all had big broad smiles on their faces. The girls have showed what can be achieved by grit, determination, hard work, skill and most of all Teamwork.

Outstanding girls well done to you and a special thank you to Gerry, Paul and Paul.
