With half the team
consisting of new players, this was a good test for them and the
way they gelled and played together was a pleasing surprise.
Barking gave them a
hard game, with the ball flowing from end to end and goals being scored
by both sides. However, with three goals from Ruby Marlow and two from Becky
Shephard,
Spurs came out 5-4 winners.

Counties Girl's Football League - Under-14 Division 1 |
The first league game
of the season got off to a good start with a near miss from Chloe
Kraemer in the fourth minute, but two minutes later, Watford scored to
give the home side the lead. There was another near miss
from Kirsty Cunoosamy in the 10th minute, as Spurs tried to get back
in the game.
With the ball getting
back in the Spurs end, there was some good tackles from the back four
before the midfield moved the ball to the Watford end, where there
were further near misses from Katie Ramsden and Kelly Fenlon, before
play switched back to the Spurs end again for Watford to score
their second goal in the 31st minute.
The Spurs girls were
determined and two minutes later Ruby Marlow scored to make the half
time score 2-1 to Watford.
The second half
started with just as much determination from Spurs and in the 38th
minute Ruby had a great shot on goal, which was unfortunately knocked
in by a Watford player to make the score 2-2.
All the players
played really well and although the weather was really hot they kept
defending well to the end of the game to finish with a 2-2 draw.
Chloe was named player of the match.
Managers comments: "The girls showed great attitude and fought
back to earn a well deserved draw, I was pleased with the commitment
given during the match."

Unfortunately, when the Echoes arrived
they only had
nine players and Spurs took good advantage of this with all the players
and subs paying a great game.
Becky Shephard
started the scoring in the fourth minute to which she added four more
throughout the game. With great assists from Chloe Kraemer, Katie
Ramsden and Kirsty Cunoosamy, the goals kept coming and with great
defending and passing from Lotty Lovejoy-Crump, Leanne Simmons, Rosie
Daly and Tayla Goodman the ball stayed in the Echoes end for most of the
game.
As well as Becky's
five goals there were four from Katie, hat tricks from Ruby Marlow and
Kelly Fenlon, with two each for Rosie and Alex Robinson (who was player
of the match).
Lotty and Leanne were
put forward from defence to play up front, where Lotty scored a goal.
Also on the scoresheet with one each were Kirsty, Chloe, Sinead Makins
and Chante Read to make the final score Spurs 24 Echoes Youth 0.
The Echoes didn't lose
heart and kept fighting to the end of the game playing
with great character and fairness.
Manager John Goodman said, "With the quality of the football played,
whether the opposition would have had 9 or 11 players, the way the
girls played would have been tough competition for many a team. WELL
DONE GIRLS."

It was a poor show from Spurs who were caught out from the kick off,
when Harvesters got straight through and scored in the first few
seconds.
There were some good moves from Spurs, but they there seemed to be
a lot of playing as individuals and not as a team. It was as if
the win they had last week had made them too complacent and the few
shots they did have at goal were straight at the keeper or over the
bar.
Kelly put on a good show and was made player of the match.

It was another defeat for Spurs Under-14 Blues today, with Cambridge
City scoring twice in the first few minutes of the game and although
the girls put up a good fight Cambridge went in at half time 4-0 up.
In the second half, Spurs picked up their game quite a bit, but
Cambridge were the superior side and added another three goals to the
score line, with Kelly Fenlon getting a goal back for Spurs and the
game finished 7-1 to Cambridge. Loren Hynes played well
throughout the game and was made player of the match.
Manager John Goodman commented, "With a disappointing loss the
previous week, the girls started this game as they finished the last,
but in the second half they showed an improvement and now know that
team structure and being vocal is key."

The girls seemed to start off with a more positive attitude this week
and in the eighth minute Ruby Marlow scored a goal, but three minutes
later Enfield got one back and after that the girls seamed to lose
concentration allowing Enfield to score two more goals before half
time.
Although there was some good individual play the way they gelled
together in the first couple of games seemed to have gone and they
didn't seamed to be playing as a team. There were a couple of
good shots in the second half that were saved by the keeper and then
Enfield scored again in the last few minutes of the game to make the
final score 4-1 to Enfield.
The player of the match vote went to Lotty Lovejoy-Crump.
Manager John Goodman said that "after a bright start, the girls lost
their shape straight after our goal and from then we let ourselves
down by not attacking the second ball and lack of heading the ball.
The team are still a new side finding their way and soon I know we
will click."

Although the Spurs Under-14 Blues suffered another loss to Leigh
Rocket Girls, they played a good game against a good side.
The Rockets scored in the third minute of the game, but Spurs
battled on well, reading the play much better and playing much more as
a team with some good defending and passing. However, Rockets
scored twice more in the first half and although Spurs had some good
shots at goal they just couldn't find the back of the net.
A free kick taken by Becky Shephard was knocked over the bar by the
keeper with a very good save to keep Spurs out. In the second
half Spurs played even better and only conceded one goal, but still
couldn't manage one of their own.
Leanne Simmons played well throughout the game and was made player
of the match.
John Goodman said, "The girls had a great game and showed that they
can work hard for each other. The 4-0 score-line did not do
justice to the amount of play and chances we had, but it was a much
better performance all round."

The score line didn't reflect the way Spurs played in a game they
ended up losing 2-5 away to Princes Park. In the first half Spurs
played the better game, with some great defensive play from the back
four Leanne Simmons, Loren Hynes, Rosie Daly and Tayla Goodman and in
goal, Megan Barsby was making some good saves.
The midfield of Lotty Lovejoy-Crump, Kirsty Cunoosamy, Sinead
Makins and Chloe Kraemer read the ball well, getting it up to Becky
Shephard and Ruby Marlow up front, who had some good shots at goal.
Princes Park scored first and a couple of minutes later Rosie made
a lovely long pass to Becky, who put it into the back of the net.
Then three minutes later, Becky ran the ball from the half way line
into the Princes Park end where she finished it with a lovely goal to
make the score 2-1, but then Princes Park scored again three minutes
later and the first half finished 2-2.
In the second half Spurs lost their shape for the first twenty
minutes and Princes Park scored three quick goals. To their
credit, the Spurs girls kept playing well, fighting to get back into
the game, but the goals just wouldn't come for them and although they
played the best they had played for sometime the game finished 5-2 to
Princes Park with Becky getting man of the match for
her two great goals.
Manager John Goodman commented, "The girls gave a good account of
themselves and attacked for most of the game. Even though
suffering another defeat they did not deserve this loss and came off
with heads high and in great spirit."

After a battling first half performance,
Spurs Under-14 Blues slipped to another defeat at the hands of
Harvesters A at Frederick Knights this afternoon.
Starting with plenty of vigour, the Spurs
girls restricted Harvesters to long shots on goal and the closest the
visitors got was a shot after ten minutes, which bounced off the
upright. In the second half, the
visitors played a more attacking style and scored within ten minutes of
the restart and then ran in four further goals, with Player of the Match goalkeeper Megan Barsby producing some brave dives at attackers feet to
stop them adding to their score, with the team struggling to find the
fluency they have striven to play with.
Having played most of the teams in the top
half of the table, the confidence that will come with a good win is
hopefully on the cards soon. |

Although Spurs played quite well, they
suffered another loss, with Luton Town Belles scoring twice in each half
to record a 4-0 win. There were a
few good chances for Spurs to hit the net, with two good breakaways by
Kelly Fenlon, shots on tatrget from Becky Shephard and Chloe Kraemer and
a good long-range free-kick from Rosie Daly that went just over the
crossbar. However, a goal would just not come for Tottenham.
Player of the match went to Kirsty Cunoosamy
for her determination throughout the game.
Manager John Goodman said, "It was
encouraging to see the girls play well even on the end of another
defeat, they kept their heads up and showed determination. Luton
did not have it all their own way."

This was a game Spurs
Under-14 Blues didn't deserve to lose, with every member of the team
fighting hard and playing well. In
the sixth minute of the game, Chante Read made a great pass to Becky
Shephard, who hit the outside of the post and then a few minutes later,
Becky hit the cross bar from a similar move.
The midfield kept the
flow of play going well and when the ball was in the Spurs end, the back
four held the ball up well. Then, in the 22nd minute, a ball
passed back across the Spurs goal was intercepted by a Hitchin player
and knocked into the net, this being the only goal of the first half.
Spurs came out
fighting in the second half and Becky hit the crossbar again, before
Rosie Daly had a free kick that narrowly went wide. In the 46th
minute, Becky scored to make the score 1-1 with a good finish to a through ball she ran on to. However, in the final seconds of the
game, Hitchin hit the ball over Megan Barsby's head into the back of the
net and the game finished 2-1 to Hitchin.
Tayla Goodman had
tackled and blocked play well throughout the game and was made player of
the match. ETHEL
