Under-15 match reports 2006-07

The Under 15s notched up their biggest win of the season on Sunday when the beat Garston Purples 8-1 in the League Cup.

Spurs had a fantastic first half bagging seven goals through Alex Small, Leesa Shields 2, Stavroulla Panayiotou 2, Bethany Hunter-Scott and Ryah Vyse.

After the break, Garston put on a really battling performance.  Bethany Hunter-Scott bagged her second and Tottenham's eighth before Garston got a consolation goal to make the final score 8-1.

The Under 15’s secured a place in the last eight of the HCGF League Cup with a batting performance 1-0 win against the 10 players of Watford Ladies on Saturday.

Early on in the game, Watford took the game to Spurs and it was only the goalkeeping of Ricole Vyse and a goal line clearance from Alex North that kept Watford from going ahead.  At the other end, Spurs chances were few and far between with the exception of a great opportunity from a Leesa Shields free kick that the oncoming Spurs attackers failed to capitalize on.

The deadlock was broken in the 25th minute when another towering Leesa Shields free kick sailed into the top corner of the goal.

In the second half, play was 50/50 with Watford having the ascendancy in the closing stages, but the Spurs team held onto to a good win against the team currently second in the division.

It’s always a close game when Spurs and Watford meet at Under-15 and Sunday proved no different, as a single goal settled the match.

Spurs started the more brightly of the two sides, but it was Watford that took the lead on the 11^th minute when from a Tottenham free-kick, they quickly turned defence into attack and managed to finish well past keeper Ricole Vyse.

Chances for both sides were few and far between from that point in the game.  Both sides hit their opponents respective woodwork, but both defences had the measure of the opposing forwards.  Spurs always looked dangerous at set pieces and it was interesting ploy by Watford to bring on the 6ft plus keeper at these times.  Watford always looked at their best on the counter attack. 

It was a keenly contested game throughout, but played in a sporting fashion.  Although, we suffered a defeat, I was generally pleased with the team’s overall play and all the players from both sides, I’m sure will go on to play at a good standard in their respective clubs.

The Spurs Under 15s secured a 6-0 victory over Princes Park on Sunday in the HCGFL at Fred Knights Sports ground.

With all the elements making conditions difficult for both sides (wind, slopping pitch and a mini-bog patch outside one penalty area), attractive football was not always possible.  However, Spurs took control of the game in the first half with the wind in their favour and against the 10-man Princes Park side, scored five times through Alex Small, Alex North, Rebecca Hunneyball and Ryah Vyse (2).   

In the second half, Princes Park put up a battling performance to their credit and with Spurs sixth and their solitary goal of the half coming from Stavroulla Panayioutou.

The Under 15s were paired for the second week running with Princes Park in the HCGFL, this time at Frederick Knights Sports Ground.

Princes Park were a player short, but the team put in a battling performance, although they were unable to compete against constant pressure from the Spurs side, who, on the day, were playing a very fluent game and who bagged seven goals in the process.

Bethany Brown-Hunter-Scott netted a well earned hat-trick with further goals coming from Alex North, Rebecca Hunneyball, Leesa Shields and Stavroulla Panayiotou.

The Under 15s put up a valiant performance in losing 3-2 to Enfield Town Ladies FC in the U15 Group C fixture on Sunday.

Spurs started brightly and it was Stavroulla Panayiotou who opened the scoring with a well taken effort after 12 minutes.  Enfield came back into the game and let a number of good chances go amiss, but just before the break, a driven shot from the edge of the Spurs area took a deflection and the scores were level.

At the start of the second half, Enfield were out the blocks quicker and hit two goals in the opening five minutes to take a 3-1 lead.  To their credit, Spurs never gave up and a good through ball from Sophie Petros saw Alex Small calmly slip the ball past the Enfield keeper with 12 minutes to go.

Both teams had chances in the closing stages but the final score remained 3-2 to Enfield Town Ladies. The result means that Spurs visit Denham United Ladies FC in the quarter final after finishing runners-up in the Group.

An enjoyable game by two strong sides and extremely well refereed by a young ref Mr Ahmed.

In a fast paced, strong physical game, Spurs battled hard to keep in contention in the first half and went in at the break only 2-0 down.

In the second half, Spurs conceded a third goal within the opening ten minutes and despite continuing to battle hard conceded another three goals in the closing 15 minutes.

The Under 15s put on probably their best display of the season to beat Bedwell Rangers 3-0 away in the HCGFL.

After several hours of torrential rain, the pitch was a virtual quagmire.  However, Spurs were totally up for the conditions playing some neat football, where possible, and matching this a physical toughness across every one of the team.

Spurs opened the scoring after 17 minutes, when some neat interchange football saw Bethany Hunter Scott finishing well at the far post.  Spurs continued to battle gamely against the wind and the slope and managed to maintain the lead going into the break.

Spurs started the second half much like the first, in an extremely determined fashion. Hard working Alex Small bagged Spurs second goal after another piece of nice build up play.  With eight minutes to go, captain Ryah Vyse completed the scoring with a low left foot drive from just outside the box.

From a manager’s point of view, it was extremely pleasing performance by every player and there was a true team feeling about the day. Let’s hope we can take this into the remaining games of the season. 

Taking the fixture as whole, both sides deserve 100% credit for playing in conditions that would have had many men’s team heading for the dressing rooms.

The Under 15s progressed through to the semi-final of the HCGFL League Cup with a 2-0 win at Denham United Ladies.

With the game being played on a heavy surface and in blustery conditions, the game was never going to be a classic.  Throughout the first half, Spurs, playing with the wind, had much of the pressure but over complicated the play around the edge of the Denham area saw many a good attack break down.

In the second half, Spurs settled better and took the lead in the 55th minute when Rebecca Hunneyball poked the ball home following a goalmouth melee.  Denham came back in the game in the closing stages and keeper Ricole Vyse confidently swept up several attacks.

In time added on, Charlie Archer drilled the ball low past the keeper to seal the result. Spurs are now at home to Bedwell in the semi final.

After a heavy defeat away in the corresponding league fixture, the Under 15s had a point to prove when them hosted Luton Town Belles in the HCGFL on Sunday.

In blustery conditions, creative play was limited and the opening 28 minutes was bogged down with a lot of tight midfield play.  However in the 29^th minute, a good through ball saw Alex Small race through to put Spurs ahead.

However, within five minutes, Luton had levelled with a through ball down their right hand side caught Spurs napping.

The opening exchanges on the second half were much like that of the first.  In the 46^th minute, some good interchange football saw Luton go ahead for the first time.

Spurs to their credit battled and the persistent of forward partnership of Small and Petros saw Sophie Petros slip the ball home to draw the score levels after 60 minutes.  Spurs were now in the ascendancy and after a goalmouth melee the ball came loose for Stavroulla Panayiotou to crack home a shot into the top corner of the next to put Spurs 3-2 in the 65th minute.

With seven minutes remaining, a Luton corner saw them force the ball home to make the final score 3-3.

Despite going ahead as early as the second minute through a goal from Stavroulla Panayiotou, the Under 15s had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Denham United Ladies on Sunday.

After Spurs took the early lead, they continued to spend large periods of the first half inside the Denham half without creating many clear chances.

Denham drew level after 25 minutes when the Spurs defence were caught napping and the Denham centre forward latched onto a pass to shoot home from the edge of the Spurs box.

The second half was much like the first with Spurs holding much possession without the producing the end product. The final five minutes were frustrating with Spurs winning a series of corners without being able to convert one.
