The Under 16s secured their
first league win since the start of October when they won 4-3 against
Denham United Ladies on Sunday. Denham took the lead in the 12th minute against the run of play but Spurs levelled in the 20th minute from a well taken effort from Rebecca Hunneyball. In the second half, Spurs took the lead through Dee Gilbert before Denham came back again with two quick goals to lead 3-2. Spurs weren't finished and Dee Gilbert brought the score levels again at 3-3. With minutes remaining, Spurs took the lead again when Dee Gilbert was brought down in the box and Ryah Vyse tucked home the penalty. Unfortunately, the tackle on Dee resulted in a serious cruciate knee ligament injury and she underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair the damage and will be out for up to six months. We all wish Dee well. Spurs also suffered another injury when a late challenge left Jay Morgan with a back injury that resulted in an ambulance being called and Jay spending two nights in hospital. Jay is now out of hospital and recovering and we all wish her a speedy recovery. GLENN WEAVER |

After extend break due to the recent run of waterlogged pitches, the Under 16’s slipped to a 6-3 defeat against Southend United in the league.
It was Spurs who took the lead in the 10th minute when Sophie Petros slid the ball home following a Leesa Shields free-kick. However, two Southend goals in a three minute spell half way through the first half through defensive lapses, saw the advantage swing to the visitors. With seconds to go before the break, Southend extended their lead when Spurs failed to clear their lines from a corner.
Spurs started brightly in the second half and cut the arrears to a single goal when Becky Shepherd swung in a return ball from close to the corner that evaded the Southend defence.
Southend again took a two goal advantage before Spurs again reduced the arrears to one when a Southend player put through their own goal.
At 4-3 to Southend with a few minutes, Spurs got caught napping when a Spurs corner turned into a Southend break and subsequent goal. In time added on, Southend added a sixth goal, when a Spurs player headed on attempting to clear a corner. Final score 6-3 to Southend.

| Home Counties Girl's Football League Under-16 Cup - Round 1 | |||||||
|
The Under 16s moved into Round 2 of the League Cup with a well earned 4-0 victory against QPR Ladies.
QPR had the best of the early exchanges and the Spurs defence needed to be on their toes to avoid going behind. In the 15th minute, Alex Small put Spurs ahead through a well won header and then was also on target 10 minutes later when a good through ball from Charlie Archer saw Alex slide the ball past the QPR keeper.
Stauvroulla Panayiotou added Spurs third goal in time added in the first half with a spinning half volley drive from the edge of the area.
In the second half, Spurs continued to apply most of the direct pressure and added a fourth with a right footed drive from Ryah Vyse in the 60th minute.
Manager Glenn Weaver said, ”A really pleasing performance by the girls throughout. There appears to be a myth surrounding our game in that it’s all Route One. Anyone who saw the game today would have seen a mixture of some neat interchanges in our build up coupled with a some direct play from free-kicks and corners. There is little difference between most of the sides in this division on the day. This team has heart and competes and I make no excuses for this.” GLENN WEAVER |

In a tough HCGFL encounter, the Spurs Ladies Under-16s secured a 1-1 away draw against a strong Bedwell Rangers side.
Spurs fell behind in the 12th minute when a Bedwell break down the Spurs left saw a well executed lofted shot evade goalkeeper Ricole Vyse. The side could have gone further behind in the 20th minute, but brave goalkeeping from Ricole saw her save at the feet at the on-coming Bedwell forward.
The Spurs injury curse continued when Alex Small was forced to limp out after a hamstring pull in the 25th minute. Although Tottenham had most of the first half pressure most of this was being soaked up by the Bedwell defence in the last third. However, in time added on in the first half, a Leesa Shields corner was headed home strongly by Shikiera Richards-Lake to level the scores.
The second half was a tough fought encounter with Spurs battling hard and Bedwell dangerous on the break, but in the end a draw was a fair result.

The THLFC Under 16s defied their lowly league position in gaining a deserved 1-1 draw with league leaders Watford Ladies at Sun Postal on Sunday.
Spurs, who were without four long term injuries, took the game to Watford in the early stages but without creating many clear cut opportunities. Watford were always dangerous on the break and this proved the case with a goal 10 minutes before the break.
The start of the second half was much like the first half but this time in Watford’s favour. Spurs defended deeply but were unable to sustain much pressure going forward.
With 13 minutes to go, Spurs gained a free-kick on their left which was gamely swung in onto the head of Shikiera Richards-Lake, who nodded home to give Tottenham the equaliser.
The closing stages were frantic with both sides seeking victory. In time added on, Ricole Vyse smothered a Watford attempt on the edge of the box, to keep the final score at 1-1.
Manager Glenn Weaver said, “A full bloodied, competitive game by both sides played in a good spirit and well refereed. The games against Watford have been really close contests this year as have most of the games in this division. Credit to the team who are down to only 12 available players. Their ‘never say die’ attitude makes them a treat to manage.” GLENN WEAVER |

The Spurs Ladies U16s proved yet again that have staying power and true ‘bounce-back-ability’ when for the third game in a row they came back from a goal down to secure a point when they drew 1-1 with Southend United Ladies.
Southend had the better of the early exchanges and the Spurs defence needed to be on their toes to keep the Southend attack at bay. However, as the half developed Spurs started to gain more confidence on the counter attack and were unlucky not to take the lead when Victoria Matthews struck the crossbar.
With ten minutes to go before the break, Southend opened the scoring when Spurs failed to clear their lines and the ball was struck home from the edge of the Spurs box.
In the second half, Spurs applied more pressure and for long periods were camped in the Southend half without creating too many clear cut chances. At same time, Southend produce several good counter attack moves where the Spurs defence held strong.
With 13 minutes to go, an in-swinging corner from Becky Shepherd evaded the scrambling efforts of the Southend keeper to level the score. Spurs then looked the most likely to gain the victory through a series of free-kicks and corners. However, it wasn’t to be.
The two teams now battle it out next week at Fred Knights for a place in the last four of the League Cup. GLENN WEAVER |

| Home Counties Girl's Football League - Under-16 Cup quarter final | |||||||
|
The Spurs Ladies Under-16s progressed into the last four of the League Cup on Sunday with a 3-2 after extra time victory against Southend United FC.
Spurs, playing with the wind in the first half, pegged Southend back into their defensive third for much of the opening stages. However, despite a series of corners, Spurs were unable to break down a stubborn Southend United defence until Shikiera Lake-Richards struck home through a series of bodies after 32 minutes to give Spurs a 1-0 half time lead.
In the second half, Spurs defended deep in the opening 15 minutes, but still looked dangerous on the counterattack. After 55 minutes, Spurs won a free-kick on their left and Charlie Archer nipped in at the far post to put Spurs 2-0 up. Within five minutes, Southend won a penalty kick for handball, but Ricole Vyse kept her calm as the kick was hit straight down the middle to her.
Spurs continued to be up against a Southend onslaught in the closing stages and Southend move back to within one goal when Spurs got caught in possession on their left. With time ticking down, another well taken Southend corner saw them level to take the tie into extra time.
In the first period of extra time, another corner from Becky Shepherd saw Leesa Shields convert from close in to make it 3-2 Spurs. The remainder of the game saw some heroic defending by Spurs with Southend going so close to taking the ties to penalties but Spurs held onto a memorable victory. GLENN WEAVER |

The Under 16s notched up their biggest league win of the season as they defeated Denham United Ladies 8-0 at Fred Knights on Sunday.
It took Spurs 22 minutes to breakdown the valiant eight players from Denham, when captain Ryah Vyse drilled a shot past the Denham goalkeeper. With two minutes to go before the break, Alex Small bagged Spurs second when a Denham clearance struck her and deflected into the Denham goal.
Tottenham's passing game improved in the second half and a further six goals were scored through Alex Small (3), Ryah Vyse and two goals for Shikiera Richards-Lake as the visitors tired. GLENN WEAVER |

The THLFC Under 16s met Enfield Town on Sunday for the first of three fixtures against them in an eleven day period.
Enfield had the territorial advantage in the early stages and went head after 10 minutes. Spurs battled back and after some neat interchange play, Becky Shepherd slotted home a powerful left footed drive from the edge of the area in the 20th minute.
With Spurs always a threat from set pieces, a long free kick from Leesa Shields saw Spurs go ahead just after the break.
In the second half Enfield came back strong and drew level midway through the half. With seven minutes to go, Spurs got caught flatfooted at the back and Enfield regained the lead. Whilst attempting to push forward for the equaliser, Enfield grabbed a fourth.
We now move onto the semi-final game on Sunday back at Fred Knights. GLENN WEAVER |
